Catalytic converter thefts on the rise

I have been reading all of the comments here and agree with the thought of putting out a dummy gas can filled with gas and sugar if someone had been stealing my gas. We had a Police Chief in Perry, Ohio who must have rubbed some of the teens the wrong way. thaey had poured sugar into his Corvettes' gas tank. Since we lived across the street form where the Police Station was, my brother and I were questioned about it. We didn't do it but we found out who did and read them the riot act. You know "You come to my neighbor hood to cause trouble, you don't want even to try it again, etc speech. Good luck in catching them, maybe you'll find out who has been doing that.  (Jun 26, 2008 | post #61)

Locally produced milk could boost farms

1. "He said he and other farmers receive 35 percent of what milk sells for on store shelves compared to 50 percent 35 years ago." and 2. "Reeves said that of the 1,401 respondents, 97.5 percent said they’d like to have locally produced milk available, and 82.3 percent said they’d be willing to pay more for locally produced milk." Don't you think that something is wrong here when #1 comment says that they are getting only 35% of the price of milk. If they operate their own Dairy wouldn't they get more than that? Also if they would get more money from their own dairy, couldn't they undersell the milk to get the price down for us all instead of raising it the pride higher?  (Jun 26, 2008 | post #4)

Which way WNC: Is a recession looming?

I just got back from visiting my mother in Ohio. I spent over $200.00 on fuel. It is getting harder to try to plan trips for me due to the price of fuel. The cost of food is skyrocketing everywhere. it is just a matter of time before we will start having riots over affordability of food. Will America wake up to the fact that we, the American Public have been lied to by our President and the Politicians that we elected to office who have managed to come out of this smelling like a rose?  (May 22, 2008 | post #24)

N.C. medic's car towed while he gave CPR

The training I had as a Navy Hospital Corpsman at Great Lakes Naval Hospital School taught me a lot to work in hospitals. The training I received at Camp Lejeune in Feild Medical Training taught me a lot in dealing with trauma. I and other "Docs" a we are called by our Marines would have stopped to render assistance immediately. We were trained to respond to the emergency while our backs were covered. We concentrated on the problem at hand to save the life of who ever we were working on. I didn't know how intense this training was till after my first firefight in Vietnam. While I concentrated on m wounded Marine, I was oblivious to the surrounding fight. Afterwards, the Marines refought the battle verbally and brought me back to what had just happened. I chain smoked and shook for about 21/2 hours when they told me just how close I came to seeing the face of Death. This "Doc" reverted back to his combat training mode in stopping to help. To attack his integrity and thinking in stopping to render aid shows stupidity. If the guy had survived, he would have thank him for his efforts. As it was, once everyone realized why his vehicle was left where it was, they tried to remedy the wrong done to him. I commend all for doing their job but more so the action done in righting thewrong. Just where does any one get off attacking him as an un NC resident is beyond me. When you are stationed in the state not by choice but by circumstances, does qualify you to bge a resident of Nac. You should be proud to have NC Statis in the news as another fine example of how NC citizens are to others even when out of State. Don't belittle "Southern Hospitality" when it is being displayed. We need to remember "Do under to othersw as you would want them to do unto you"  (Apr 18, 2008 | post #48)

AC-T should remember there's no such thing as an ex-Marine

I think instead of former or ex Marine what should have been used is either discharged/retired /inactive Marine. I know that the slogan, "Once a Marine, Always a Marine" is ingrained into you during Boot. Those who survived the crucible earned the right to be called Marine. My cousins earned that right and I don't even distinguish them but just call them Jarheads as they affectionately call me Squid. Even though I served with the Marines as their "Doc" I didn't earn the right to be called a "Marines " but as an "Honorary Marine" in my mind. As I was accepted by them in their unit and earned their respect by risking my life for them, I will always consider myself as a "Honorary Marine". I wear the Globe and Anchor pin that my Cousin gave me, not because of my having servived the Crucible but bercause of the respect he has for what I did while serving with the Marines. I honor all Marines when I do wear that Pin.  (Apr 13, 2008 | post #2)

Leaders blind to the plight of average Americans

"it takes money to make money. saying otherwise doesn't make it true. wealth comes from wealth, 9 times out of 10." It has to start with us as parents teaching our children how to save money in order to get what we want. A lot of children are not being taught that today with the "I want now" attitude. I remember when I started school about learning about banking by opening a savings account in first grade. I saved every penny I could. I returned pop bottles, helped with yard work, etc. At the end of the year I had saved $36.00 which was a lot of money back in the 50's. My father was surprised especially when he was trying hared to make ends meet for us. He was trying to figure out how to keep his car running when he didn't have the money for a part so he could keep going to work. I gave it to him to help the family. How many children would do that today?  (Mar 26, 2008 | post #50)

Break our 'racial stalemate'

Folks, I have read many of the postings here and can't believe the feelings of hatred being displayed. Can I ask an honest question and hopefully get an honest sincere reply? Why can't we just let go of the past and the hatred and really make an effort to work together to keep our country great. Ignorance I think breeds hate which is being fanned by a few trying to make themselves feel important. Don't we have better role models? I think that what I am trying to say is, As an individual I am responsible for my actions as you are for yours. What ever happened to the Golden rule "Do unto others as you would want them to do to you"  (Mar 25, 2008 | post #80)

Leaders blind to the plight of average Americans

What makes you so sure that a Democrat will not continue to run us in debt. When will people wake up to the fact that we get what we deserve when we don't hold the politicians that WE, the people elect to office. We have to get more active in voicing our concerns to those elected officials. If they don't listen to us but just to the party, then it is time for us to start looking for those individuals who would like to run but can't aford the millions of dollars it takes just to run. Where are those people that care about what is best for the USA and not concerned about letting other countries try to dictate to us. We are not the policemen of the world and need to concentrate on getting our country back on track. Other countries hate us because of the freedoms and liberties that we have. they want us to provide for them without them having to pay the tab. Enough is enough. Time for us to use tough love with the world and just say No more freebies.  (Mar 24, 2008 | post #1)

Sex abuse victims sue city church

First of all, let me apologize to ladder truck idiot for unintentionally calling him a name. I do apologizes sincerely Sir for getting heated up on what you first said. This is the reason why I apologized. I was born in the South but grew up Northeast Ohio and let my emotions get the better of me. I got upset with you because it seems like everybody starts bad mouthing the church as being at fault. I remember an event whereby a young minister and his wife were well liked by the youth of the church. They were working with the youth bringing them closer to the teachings of the church (Church of God). Apparently some of the older members didn't like the minister's actions of involving the youth in the church and started a smear campaign against him which ruined his ministry. None of it was true but was hidden from the youth. Needless to say that church that my grandmother helped built was destroyed by those few. I was one of those youth in his formable age of preteen believing in God, etc. I couldn't understand what was going on with in my church. When they left, a big void was created. I saw my church which had a great youth movement end up having none at all. It was your first comments "i think any church that has sex-abuse such as the catholic church has and others should lose their tax-exempt status.it wouldn't take long to get your heart right when it starts affecting the offering plate" that subconsciously stroke this cord of mine about what had happened. I didn't answer your last post immediately because I felt that something was really bothering me about what I had said. Then I remembered what had happened in my youth about the making of an substansiated remark. Again I apologize for my remark. Let's not judge the whole for the actions of a few.  (Mar 23, 2008 | post #58)

Whether I am Catholic or not is not the question that needs to be answered. The question is "What is a Bigot?" Answer: from Miriam-Webste online Dictionary http://www.merriam -webster.com/dicti onary/bigot bigot Main Entry: big·ot Pronunciation: \ˈbi-g ət\ Function: noun Etymology: French, hypocrite, bigot Date: 1660 : a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance. Is it hatred or intolerance that I have been reading here?  (Mar 23, 2008 | post #50)

WCU ID security breached

If it plainly states on the front of my Social Security Card "For Social Security and Tax purposes- not for Identification. " then I feel like a law has been broken by it being required in the first place.  (Mar 23, 2008 | post #1)

If it talks like a bigot, then it must be a bigot. Sex abuse not only happens in a church, be it a Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Church of God, but have you forgotten, It also is going on in our schools. Get you head out of the sand and quit condeming the Churches. Our society has lost it moral fiber what with the attitude that I can do anything I want. We need to get back to the principles and teachings that made this country great.  (Mar 22, 2008 | post #38)

4 people injured in accident on New Leicester Hwy

I think what everyone is forgetting is this. We are living in a faster paced world where the rules of the road are not being enforced within our courts. Being allowed to plea bargain down to a lesser charge when the facts support the stronger is absolutely wrong. We need to get an DA in that will protect us from hand slapped criminals. I try to go the speed limit when I travel on the road. However, I am in the right hand lane with idiots bearing down on me from behind instead of the left lane all of the time. Speed limits need to be enforced. A 3rd or 4th violation of excessive speed should result in the individual not only loosing his/her license but also have their vehicle taken from them. My sympanthy to all who were injured by the carelessness of whoever caused the wreck in the first place.  (Mar 22, 2008 | post #47)

Man fatally shot after using pepper spray on highway patr...

I woud guess that he would be alive in jail sleeping it off and going through Drug Rehab again and again and again. The individual made a decision to get high on anything which caused him to lose his judgement facilities. Do I blame the Trooper for taking his life. No, I blame the individual for making the wrong choice with his life.  (Mar 22, 2008 | post #12)
