Village of Medina

The only viable downtown in all of Orleans County and all some people do is bitch about it. I gather it would be much better if it did what other villages in Orleans County are doing with their downtowns.  (Jul 17, 2013 | post #9)

medina hospital

Overall, the hospital doesn't seem to be too bad. There are bad experiences everywhere and are usually balanced by the good. This hospital is no exception. Based on US News Health hospital surveys, MMH was found to be fairly average. http://health.usne ws.com/best-hospit als/area/ny/medina -memorial-hospital -6212390 Otherwise - we could be going the way of Lakeside in Brockport, which is actually closing and will be reopening as an outpatient care center.  (Apr 8, 2013 | post #10)

Whether someone stuck a nerve or not really isn't the reason a post would get removed. Technically it would have to violate the terms of service for action to be taken.  (Mar 25, 2013 | post #3)

Toale running yet AGAIN?

Are some of you having problems with someone running for or being written into a ballot? Seriously? Some of you do nothing but complain about the current administration but yet when anyone else either tries to run or is recommended by the people to run, you make fun of them? The current administration is complacent and count on the fact that opposition is likely to be non-existent, unwilling, or unable to compete. That's never good. We, The People, need to remember that if we want change, it takes work and not just posting in a forum. Elections are won and lost on the streets, door to door, one house and one business at a time. We simply haven't had any candidates hungry enough to make an effort. When we see a candidate knocking on doors all over town, holding town-hall meetings and forums, talking policy on local newspapers, and showing some hunger, that's when we will actually have a real election in our great village/town.  (Mar 23, 2013 | post #20)

Am I liberal and PC because I said clearly I didn't care whether he was male or female, gay or straight, I'd wring their necks either way? You said "...was a parents worst nightmare walking among us. A homosexual pedophile." Are you seriously making a distinction between one kind of monster and another? So - explain please - does it really make a difference whether the pedophile is straight or homosexual?  (Sep 3, 2012 | post #19)

More facts reported on this case, info on charges, bail, more charges, and his remanding to jail until hearing. http://www.buffalo news.com/city/comm unities/niagara-co unty/article102937 1.ece As for the comments about parents' worst nightmare - "a homosexual pedophile" - Get a grip... Would you be OK with it if someone's daughter got abused by a guy? Or a woman abused a boy? You can't let homophobia lead you to assume you only have to worry about same-sex abuse. I know as a father I wouldn't think about it twice - I'd still wring their necks.  (Sep 2, 2012 | post #17)

RN plates

Ah - haven't noticed those. And they don't cost anything extra either?  (Jul 17, 2012 | post #10)

RN plates

I imagine you're talking about plates with RN on the right side of the plate, the caduceus symbol on the left. If so, they do cost more money than standard plates, and no they are not just given out to anyone. These plates in particular require proof of professional certification or affiliation as they are only issued out to registered nurses holding current licensing. http://www.dmv.ny. gov/profpl8.htm - includes plate photos.  (Jul 12, 2012 | post #7)

Swan to set groundbreaking

Per the official town newsletter from April 2012: ------------------ ------------------ ------------------ ------------- The first round of funding from the NY Main Street grant has been announced. Eight downtown building projects will receive grant funds totaling $316,490. Applications for the remaining $78,510 to be awarded will be taken in July. The grant requires a match from building owners and thus will result in nearly $800,000 of investment in downtown buildings. The Town of Albion is lead agency for the grant. Albion Main Street Alliance is grant writer and administrator. ------------------ ------------------ ------------------ -------------  (Apr 28, 2012 | post #66)

Swan to set groundbreaking

"He should have used the internet dumb ass" - really? LOL Nice comeback. We'll leave that one alone then. If you consider my honest answer "smart ass" then you really need to get back to reading some books. Maybe someone at the library can help you. As for you "noticing " I didn't have an answer to the world reserve currency problem - what makes you think I had a problem with your point on this regard? What, you think everything needs to be a shotgun approach? Agree with everything or nothing at all? I focused on the subtle irony of your argument against libraries when in the same post you quote one of the biggest proponents of libraries in our history. And here comes my favorite - "bet you never served our country..." How in the world is that relevant to this argument? It's like saying not graduating from college means you can't have an opinion. As for me not knowing what's going on besides what's on the news or on the papers (or the internet), I'm not sure how else to get my news... need I apply for my aluminum foil helmet or something? Seriously - how else would you suggest I find out what's going on in the world? Just curious...  (Apr 24, 2012 | post #59)

Swan to set groundbreaking

Funny Betterdays ahead quotes Jefferson... Jefferson was a prolific book collector and and a firm believer in libraries. His primary book collection was so extensive that it was worthy of replacing the Library of Congress after it was burned by the British. He owned thousands of books, not for the sake of collecting, but for the sake of the knowledge they held. Even after selling his book collection to congress, he not only kept collecting books but also ran a library. As for our freedoms getting ripped apart, a clear sign of the decay of our society is how little importance some people give to our history, our books, and the wealth of knowledge they hold.  (Apr 23, 2012 | post #56)

Libraries are a community resource that only the uneducated and uninformed could consider wasteful. That said, I think Albion's residents are less worried about "wasting money" in a library compared to the actual waste going on in the village government and related projects. As for graffiti - if we were to judge the worthiness of a building based on a few kids scribbling what looks like crayon scribbles by a 5 year old, then why bother having any buildings at all?  (Apr 22, 2012 | post #53)
