Taste of Las Cruces: Empire Buffet's vastness reigns supreme

Hey Carlos..thanks for the heads up on average, not very interesting industrial mass quantity buffet food. When did a Chinese/Asian restaurant need a review of the crumbly cake dessert? I can sum this long rambling, disjointed review up in one sentence: "It's the kind of thing you'll like if you like that kind of thing." You could have saved a lot of ink, Carlitos.  (Oct 11, 2010 | post #14)

What Buffett has said is that HIS taxes should probably go up, along with others in his economic strata. The over-250k taxes that will return next year do exactly that. Anyone who makes over 250k after deductions, etc., can certainly afford to pay a bit more on their income beyond that 250. Most anti-tax commentators try to pretend that anyone who makes 250 plus will have to pay a higher rate on all their income, which is a typical lie. Not surprising, as all the big time radio voices and TV commentators make far, far more than that, and are employed by people who make far more. The amazing thing to me is that many average middle class Americans are buying into their don't-make-us-pay- more BS. Just shows how closely people listen, or not. I could live pretty well on 250k a year..how about you?  (Oct 8, 2010 | post #54)

Longtime Las Cruces businessman Rudy Sandoval dies

Can't help"? More likely can't think. I'm sure every Chrysler dealer would have been much better off if the company had just gone belly up, torn to pieces and gone away, instead of a structured fast-track bankruptcy reorganization that kept tens of thousand employed and their benefits and businesses in existence. And you call others "fool", Sir?  (Oct 7, 2010 | post #22)

I think Mr. Buffett is capable of finding a way and a place to give away his vast fortune without your "helpful " suggestions, Paul. On top of his philanthropy, he's also paying taxes, the minimum required but happily so, as all Americans should do. Maybe he's got a moral compass that some of his detractors lack. http://money.cnn.c om/2006/06/25/maga zines/fortune/char ity1.fortune/ If you and your friends could or would do even 1% as much as he is doing it would be a better world. I'm not holding my breath.  (Oct 7, 2010 | post #48)

OK...so the most successful capitalist in the USA is under the influence of Stockholm syndrome, wracked with White guilt (I'm not sure what this might have to do with tax rates), has too much money..on and on. Poor guy. If only he was as smart as you, Truth, then he'd have time to prattle on and on in an internet forum instead of working and earning even more money. A "traitor to capitalism".. .what a laugh. What qualifies you to make such a judgement about the most successful capitalist of his age? Because he disagrees with YOUR version of the Truth? Poor, dumb bast**d...if only he knew what you know he might make something of himself and be a success in this world.  (Oct 7, 2010 | post #46)

Will Trader Joe's open in Las Cruces? (4:45 p.m.)

I don't think Trader Joe's has any problems finding space to rent in Las Cruces, Sam. They have a problem finding enough customers to justify spending a lot of money opening a store here, and they've spent millions of dollars researching what type of community they need to go into to be profitable so I think they know what they're looking for. Sorry....LC isn't one of those communities. Despite the enthusiasm of many people (including me) there aren't enough people in the INCOME, education and age groups that TJ needs to see to justify the expense of opening here. Ain't gonna happen..not now, not for a long, long time, if ever. Support Toucan and places like it...if they're successful they'll do more and better things in their stores. Ask them for stuff. They'll respond. Whining about their prices won't improve anything. Walmart has better prices and more selection than TJs, but TJ's items are different, and aimed at a totally differnt crowd than Chinamart.  (Oct 5, 2010 | post #79)

Blast off!

The Otero vote was a vote to keep the buggywhip factory and ignore those new-fangled automobiles that'll never amount to nuthin'. They're noisy and are dangerously fast...who needs to go 30 mph anyway? Otero voted to shun the investment...why should that county reap ANY rewards from it? The truth is, they WILL see rewards, because the rest of the spaceport partners aren't as narrowminded as the county residents. The point isn't T or C, the point is space. But that wouldn't interest you....you're carrying around all you need, right between your ears.  (Oct 2, 2010 | post #3)

Mesilla residents speak in support of deputy

I don't think God was buying the drinks, CHILD. Nor did God get behind the wheel of a vehicle and drive it so poorly that a State Police officer noticed that the driver was unable to safely operate that vehicle and might easily kill someone. Maybe it was God who put the State cop there...and maybe God will toss Serna off the police force so he can learn the lesson he apparently enjoys teaching others. Maybe God will show him the penalty for Do what I say, not what I do....  (Oct 2, 2010 | post #108)

My only contacts with this guy (not a traffic ticket or similar thing) gave me the strong impression of an arrogant jerk with a badge. Why should he get any more chances than anyone else? He didn't even spend the night in jail, like ANYONE ELSE would have.  (Sep 29, 2010 | post #3)

Michael Hays: Masking the truth about mosques

No, quite the contrary. You're completely free to hate whomever you wish....you just can't act on that hatred. As my dad used to say: you're free to WANT to punch some jerk in the nose, but that freedom stops where the nose begins. Keep your hands to yourself. That being said, I'd love to know what ignorance I'm "inflicting " on you....  (Sep 27, 2010 | post #155)

Beloved Reynolds-Chavez-Fountain house restored by couple

Well deserved kudos to my neighbors down the ditch for their hard work and expense in saving and restoring that wonderful house. And you're right, Artie...those Christmas Eve parties are great. Mil Gracias Len and Lori!  (Sep 26, 2010 | post #2)

SB...perhaps you've just seen the corner of a white sheet that's slipped out of the tweed suit coat. You ask "did you review" as if it would be possible to NOT see the source of those statistics. It only took me 30 seconds to see this: "Something stinks with the numbers, and it isn't the German record keeping It's the fuzzy math of the Jews! same fuzzy math they've been using for centuries to ruin nations and that they're ruining our country with today" This quote was in very large, very bold, very colorful type, right next to those handy charts. Kind of hard to miss, isn't it? And a bit odd to get this link from someone who professes to be guided by the Word of God...whoever SHE is ;) Of course, the Nazi's probably just used the homosexuals as work crews also....right?  (Sep 26, 2010 | post #154)

My quarrel isn't with God, it's with bigotry wrapping itself in a veneer of godliness and using religous excuses to maintain itself. Pathetic. I'm sure that, at an earlier time, many Americans were outraged that they were going to be forced to live with former slaves as "equals" , and longed for the good old days when certain groups were'nt granted "special rights" like equality. They got over it, more or less..... Strange Fruit notwithstanding. Maybe you will too....  (Sep 26, 2010 | post #153)

I'm saying that your religiously based judgement on gays marrying has no more place in modern America than the Shari'a dictates about women covering their heads, stoning to death for adultery, and other religious based customs/laws in parts of the Muslim world. You're welcome to your opinions...just not welcome to inflict ignorance and superstition on other free people.  (Sep 24, 2010 | post #144)
