Italian eateries find homes in southwest Volusia County

Thanks for the vote of confidence on my review. Scorpios is located in Deltona at the intersection of Doyle & Courtland Blvds in an almost empty shopping plaza. Currently they and a Chinese restaurant are there along with a skate shop. Other than that the plaza is empty which is a shame.  (Nov 24, 2008 | post #45)

Hmmm, I thought my review of most (I know there are more but these are the ones I've personally been to) Italian restaurants in the area was pretty unbiased overall. These were based on my personal visit at each location. The comment about friends' comments on one restaurant is very true and not based on anything I've read online as many of our friends/family are just like us and like to give everything a try. We all discuss it when we're together and even with so-so reviews I have visited a restaurant as sometimes there is a bad night and it might be better next time. You can view a number of my reviews on a variety of websites as I review quite a few restaurants when I visit them. I like to try to visit "local" restaurants and not the chains. That way I'm supporting local people (wherever I visit) and not so much of the big companies. Also, it's a great way to experience the local flavor. We DO own a local family owned business (thankfully not a restaurant as I'm definitely not a cook) & I believe in supporting locally owned businesses. Happy Eats everyone & please be nice :)  (Nov 20, 2008 | post #43)

Review: Crab Louie's Seafood Tavern

I'm in Midlothian on business from FL. I always try to find something "local" for dinner rather than one of the chains. I write reviews where they are due. I found Crab Louie's Seafood Tavern online - the menu looked great so I figured I would give it a try. It is situated on Midlothian Turnpike in an historic building. I already had an idea from the online menu of what I wanted. I had the Butternut Crab Bisque and it was to die for. The soup had a touch of curry and the crab was generous. Loved it! They offered homemade relishes and breads - all that I tried were yummy. The included salad was nicely done rather than just a salad mix. For dinner I had the Crab Cake & Latke combination. The crab cake was CRAB - not a lot of filler as many places offer. The latke was very interesting (crabmeat, shrimp and lobster mixed with onions and fresh herbs broiled and topped with a sweet red pepper honey sauce) and delicious as well. I finished with Chocolate Brandy Mousee (yes dessert as it sounded so good). It was delicious although a little heavy - I'm used to mousse being very light. I'm here for another night & I think I'll try it again. Yes, it was that good. So, if you are in the area & haven't tried Crab Louie's I highly recommend it!  (Oct 1, 2008 | post #1)
