Don't be a hater. What is your team that has such a rabid fan base? Does it also have 300 straight sellouts? Oh I guess that's "fiction ". Jealous loser, Red Sox Nation lives!  (Oct 26, 2007 | post #9)

1 Dead, 1 Injured In 2 Shootings -- Courant.com

Amen to your response to another in a long list of asinine theories to prevent gun violence. All these pie-in-the-sky ideas ever really do is restrict the self-defense freedoms of law-abiding citizens like you and I. We are never going to "solve" violence, people. If guns are not available, people will use knives or bats; and, like you stated, the bad guys never seem to follow all your little gun laws anyway... In the meantime, keep the good guys armed.  (Oct 18, 2007 | post #5)

Actually, the kid's post was 10 times more well thought-out and informative than yours.  (Oct 16, 2007 | post #229)

hmm, so there are NO limits on what she can say, simply because she is enrolled in a public school? So she can feel free to publish slanderous accusations about the principal's sex life, and the school will be powerless to react? Interesting. (Don't tell me that my hypothetical rises to the level of yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre, because it certainly doesn't, that is why I made up this kind of example).  (Oct 16, 2007 | post #227)

Yes, she is "allowed " to say them, in the sense that no one will come and arrest her. However, her school (or, employer) should be "allowed " to punish such derogatory behavior. Are you going to sit there and try to tell me that you can go home tonight and get on your blog and tell the whole world that your boss (named) is a douchebag, and there will be no consequences? Think about that for a minute.  (Oct 16, 2007 | post #225)

How is this even in the courts at all, never mind the 2nd Circuit? Does she have the right to say these derogatory comments? Sure. But, just as obviously (one would think) the school should not be hamstrung into having no recourse from a snotty misguided student, under the guise of the first amendment. Just as your right to swing your arm ends at my nose, free speech is similarly not unlimited. However, this should NOT even be a first amendment issue. She did not make a riotous statement or advocate the killing of a person or group. But what she did say was certainly offensive to her school (similar to employer), and they should be able to react to it appropriately. As this girl is surrounded by a festering huddled mass of sycophants, she is getting the exact wrong message by those who wish her well- that is, that there are no consequences for one's actions. I actually kinda feel sorry for her, as I remember how I was in high school, not remotely knowing how the world works. Perhaps she'll break free from it all someday. In the meantime, she is doing wrong.  (Oct 15, 2007 | post #126)

Arrest In East Granby Stabbing -- Courant.com

I am from the Storrs area my whole life and I have never "tipped cows or played with sheep". I think the smug kind of hyperbolic generalizations that people make in this regard do not match up with reality. You may have a point when you discuss well-known trouble-makers branching out into other towns. However, where you lose me is when you try to ascribe to the government the responsibility for keeping individuals entertained and "out of trouble". As long as there are human beings there will always be SOME criminal amd seamy portion of society. We should try to catch, convict, punish, and even, yes, strive to understand. But don't be naive enough to think that all deviant acts can be prevented with a wave of your hand and a town-sponsored recreational activity.  (Oct 5, 2007 | post #104)

Wow! That is unbelievable that you are ignorant to the obvious irony and sarcasm that was entwined within the "anti-knife " post. It was a well-written post (the first one, if I remember), in which the author parodies the fallacies of the "blame the murder weapon" (usually a gun) mentality. You really need to brush up on your critical reading skills dude!  (Oct 4, 2007 | post #95)

I have no idea how nice or not-so-nice the kid who was murdered was. But your comments are disturbing. First you denigrate the name of a recently murdered young man with no supporting commentary. Then you lash out at someone making a logical query regarding your comment. What's wrong with you?  (Oct 2, 2007 | post #65)

wow, it is apparently now the duty of town recreation departments to prevent murders. So many of us have strayed so far from the mentality of individuals being resposible for themselves. It is so ingrained in many of us that it is second nature. Really, what does one say to a comment like this?  (Oct 2, 2007 | post #63)
