Cause of death ruled a suicide in missing Penfield teen

Unfortunately alot of teens do treat each other with lack of respect, adults too for that matter. It shocked me too to read that, I have my son and a teenage daughter. And yes many of the girls look "skanky" that is the exact term I use with my children as I see these girls coming out of the high school when I pick my son up. I think that some parents don't pay attention, some parents are too busy working or doing their own thing or you have the mothers that try to look like a 20 something themselves, I see them all the time.....right now my son knows not to be bringing home a "skanky" dressed girl, when he does bring one home to meet me....hasn't happened yet and hopefully not for awhile. I think too there are alot of adults who don't treat people with respect and the children see this and learn that this way is ok. My daughter had a "friend" that treated her terribly, I happened to see some emails unbeknownst to my daughter where this girl called her terrible names, swore at her. She was supposedly her best friend. I copied the email and sent it to her mom with a note like a FYI and I would want to know if my daughter was treating someone like this and she completely ignored it, mind you she had been to my home several times and had many conversations so we weren't strangers. Thankfully my daughter took my advice and ended the friendship, she has never regretted it...but it was a very long road.  (Jan 24, 2008 | post #55)

If you knew your son was having a rough day and not acting like himself, which I heard his father say on an interview with the news, and your son takes of in freezing weather upset, not dressed for it why do you wait until the next day to call police? I don't want to blame the father but I am sorry after an hour I would have been out searching myself after two hours I would have called authorities.  (Jan 21, 2008 | post #52)

Really? That is so sad. As a parent I know how you can get upset with your kids but in the end I would lay down my life for them. Was his dad selfish, as far as his life coming before his children's? From some of the blogs I have read on various sights seems like it.  (Jan 21, 2008 | post #51)

I feel the same way about this story, my son keeps telling me I am obsessed. I find myself looking up videos and blogs on facebook and spacebook to see Andrew and his friends. I have been so sad about it and that he was hurting so very much that he couldn't reach out to someone. I too have been praying everyday for his family and that hopefully he has found peace.  (Jan 19, 2008 | post #45)

I heard from a reliable source that Andrew did hang himself. Apparently there was some history of some things with the family dynamics. Who knows how long Andrew had been contemplating this, we hear how he was a clown and made people laugh all the time, alot of people who are funny like that on the outside are using it as a mask to cover their real sadness inside. It is a terrible tragedy.  (Jan 16, 2008 | post #43)

We don't know what else was found at the scene, I am sure they must have a reason to have ruled it a suicide. Like I had posted earlier, his Dad said Andrew was not acting like himself all day Sunday the 23rd. Maybe Andrew felt that as a male he could not show his emotions of feeling depressed for whatever reason. I have since learned that scents can be covered up by snow, german shepards can smell thru the snow but bloodhounds can't also wind plays a factor in the scents.  (Jan 13, 2008 | post #37)

Right after discovering him the sherrif's dept said there was no sign of foul play. I too wondered how they could not have found him with K-9's. I have driven to the area and the wooded spot he was in is very small, yes we had snow but it wasn't that deep, a dog could easily run through it and through the wooded lot. Also there are houses very close by this wooded lot. I would like to know the details of the search.  (Jan 13, 2008 | post #34)

He was in my son's gym class last year and my son remembers Andrew always smiling and talking to people. I doubt it was over a video game, it was probably the last straw for him for whatever he felt was so terrible in his life.  (Jan 12, 2008 | post #32)

I am wondering if the family requested no detailed information be reported. His father did say that last day Andrew was not acting like himself. There is talk that Andrew text messaged a friend alluding to never seeing each other in this lifetime....do not know if this is fact. If it is a fact who knows how long Andrew had been depressed, this anguish to end your life doesn't come on in one day. I too wondered about the search. The police don't do anything for 24 hours, he was labeled a runaway and everyone thought he would be back. Don't know if the family went out searching that night, it was cold out and we had snow on the ground. If the sherrif's dept. didn't start the search until days later it would have been too late just from the elements. I am not sure when the police did their first search. It is a terrible shame that he was so close to home.  (Jan 12, 2008 | post #30)
