Marijuana - El Paso, TX

I disagree that pot is harmless. I disagree that pot does not lead to other drugs I disagree that pot has great positive effects on users. And...if for any of the above reasons you think pot should be legalized I disagree with you. However, legalizing pot for the purposes of truly regulating it and harvesting a bounty in taxes has become the only alternative to kill the monster we created by forbiding people from it. People want to use it. It's not harmless, it can lead to other drug use and it can cause ill effects on the emotions, on affect and even on brain health (particularly those with pre existing mental health problems). However, the same can be said of alcohol. I think we have to give this one to the user. More on this appears at www.howpaso.com  (Aug 24, 2010 | post #14)

City passes sweeping garbage law

What?! Who can explain why the city found it better to pay 18mil instead of make 2.5mil? There MUST be more to their decision. This same questions is at www.howpaso.com  (Aug 24, 2010 | post #11)

Video: Remembering Rosco's Burger Inn owner Roger Carrasco

Gonna miss you man. What a legacy! I agree with My Dixie above...the best way to honor Roger is to eat many more tasty burgers at Roscos. I found another fitting tribute to Roger at www.howpaso.com, go there and post a comment!  (Jul 29, 2010 | post #10)

Come on now, If you are a Catholic yourself then you can attest the fact that about .05% of Catholics know anything about what the bible actually says. My favorite line: "The priest reads it and then tells me all about it." Sacraments! You reveal your ignorance of what Jesus sought to teach. It has nothing to do with sacraments. Jesus came to seek and save the lost through love and His own sacrifice. By paying your unpayable debt, you can have right standing before a perfect holy God...if you choose to accept it. No sacraments, no bowing and kneeling, no baptism, nothing but faith in Jesus is all it takes. Foolish rituals and empty, man-made requirements have taken more Catholics to hell than athieism! How better to make you stop worrying about your eternal soul than to make you think all is well because "a priest heard your confession and you took the sacraments." One question I ask ALL my Catholic friends is this: What if the "Big" question God asks us all is NOT "Were you a good Catholic", but "what was your RELATIONSHIP with my son?" Uh oh! Your answer: "But Lord I sought to eat His flesh and drink His blood as often at I could. I told the priest all my sins, I attended mass regularly and even said 42,000 Hail Marry's" God will answer: "For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings." (Hosea 6:6) You: "Lord, I had knowledge of you." God: "You thought I wanted your performance and your rituals. I wanted your heart. If you had known me you would have known this. I loved you and made a perfect way for you to come to me and yet you wanted to find ways to get to Me by yourself. It was all pride." Look at the face and the manner of the person in the photograph of the article. This person has responded to God's loving call with love, not useless rules and hollow rituals. Hit your knees sir and let God's love stir you to tears. You'll soon be lost and broken under the weight of this love about which you've only heard and never felt. Good day, God bless. No offense intended. I am called to love you like He does. That's why I tell you these things.  (Jul 15, 2010 | post #118)

Cook wants 3rd term: Mayor, reps make no move to change c...

Credit where credit is due: Mayor Cook has been good for El Paso. He's a Christian follower and is open and not ashamed of that. El Paso crime is low. El Paso employment is high. El Paso's economy is growing. We now have an expanded Fort Bliss, a 4 year medical school and research center. It all happened on his watch. Whatcha gonna do? Another term? Change of charter? It won't happen, but if it does, we can expect more good things from Mr. Cook. Saw an article at http://www.howpaso .com on this same thing.  (Jun 15, 2010 | post #41)

EPISD's proposed tax increase in voters' hands

No way. I just read an article in El Paso Realtor magazine by EPISD super. Lorenzo Garcia and he offers only a demand-sided arguement for the increase, with no material effort to really cut costs. We hear cost cutting sound-bytes, but how many millions of our property tax dollars are paying the costs for illegal foreigners in our schools whose parents pay nothing in taxes? The pendulum is swinging the other way on immigration and the "shout down the Americans" tactic and the done-to-death race card will not work this time around. A vocal minority is going to run headlong into a fed up American majority who already approve of Arizona's law by a huge 60%. Vote NO and make them start making hard choices.  (Jun 15, 2010 | post #82)
