L.A. Auto show is a last hurrah for gas-powered cars

I agree environmentally there aren't a lot of benefits to electric vehicles at this point, but I like them because you can conveniently take care of your 'fueling' at home, as easy as charging your cellphone at night. Plus it's domestic and doesn't help prop up those in the middle east who we don't get on with all that well.  (Nov 21, 2010 | post #14)

Harbor City prostitution sting nets 7 arrests

Many brilliant comments, nothing much to add. It's nice to be with the majority in the comments for a change. It's your body, if you're over 18 feel free to sell it if you can. Police, please stick to violent and property crimes.  (Nov 21, 2010 | post #31)

Carson sales tax measure losing

I'm shocked that as many as 41% of Carsonians voted for this! Just goes to show you can get 40% of people to vote for just about anything.  (Nov 3, 2010 | post #8)

CHECKPOINTS: Beach cities plan weekend DUI stops

Hey buddy we're on the same side, I know it's asking a lot, but why don't you bother to actually carefully read people's posts next time instead of trying to make cheap shots.  (Oct 31, 2010 | post #15)

CHECKPOINTS: Beach cities plan weekend DUI stops

What a sweet thing to wish for. Such nice compassion for your fellow human beings. Considering that every study shows patrols are more successful at getting drunk drivers off the road than checkpoints your wish is indeed more likely to happen if police keep using these ineffective tactics which you rally for.  (Oct 31, 2010 | post #14)

TSA's new pat-down techniques not popular with LAX travelers

TSA and the airlines will keep supporting this crap unless people stand up to it. If airlines see this is hurting their bottom line they'll speak up and stop the security charade. If you don't have to fly, don't. Enjoy a nice drive through the countryside, instead of the nonsense at the airport.  (Oct 31, 2010 | post #70)

CHECKPOINTS: Beach cities plan weekend DUI stops

YES damnit, put a checkpoint on every block at every hour of every day, then we'd all be really safe! That's the kind of community I want to live in. Checkpoints take police away from their job of finding drunk drivers and restrict them to one spot where all they can do is harass the innocent folks who pay their salaries.  (Oct 29, 2010 | post #4)

Q: Torrance Walmart

Always good to hear about new businesses coming into town, especially one that can hire tons of people and fill a niche. To those who are complaining about a new Wal-Mart, what difference will there really be between their clientele and their products sold to those of Target which is currently only a few blocks away from that location? I've never been able to tell the difference between the two stores myself.  (Oct 5, 2010 | post #45)

Voter anger unlikely to affect South Bay races

Don't WASTE your vote on GOP or Dem. Independent is the only way to be. Vote your conscience, not the lesser of two evils.  (Oct 4, 2010 | post #2)

MY TURN: Census work means getting the occasional earful

They came to my door twice asking for information and they didn't get it. The constitution only requires a simple head count which they can get from tax forms. A complete waste of money and invasion of privacy.  (Oct 4, 2010 | post #6)

Critics say tape shows illegal Baldwin Park P...

Keep up the good work Art. The camera is the only way to keep police in line. If native born folks won't stand up for the constitution I'll gladly accept immigrants help in preserving our rights.  (Oct 2, 2010 | post #222)

Char Miller: Cashing in on checkpoints

Excellent article. Since native born folks often don't give a damn about their rights it looks like it's going to take immigrants to stand up for the 4th amendment. Keep up the good work. Going by the police's own numbers checkpoints are an ineffective way to get drunks but are obviously a very effective way to raise money.  (Oct 2, 2010 | post #9)

CHECKPOINTS: Carson plans DUI stops

We haven't had checkpoints in a few weeks, I thought it might be one benefit to the CA budget issue since the money to pay for them is sent from the CA Office of Traffic Safety in Sacramento. Apparently the money hasn't quite dried up yet. The state budget pays for the checkpoints but the money from impounding cars of unlicensed drivers goes straight to the local police. A great deal for the local boys, not a great deal for the taxpayers state-wide.  (Oct 1, 2010 | post #2)
