Sounds, like you are trying to start the Ranger without the key...... If I am right and you do not have a key, then you need to get a hook truck to take it to a Ford dealer for them to reprogram a new key for you. This could cost anywhere from $35.00 to around $75.00 or so depending on your location. I am not sure you can start the vehicle otherwise. The key has a code in it that is required....... My Ride: Q: What was your first car?
Been sitting on the side watching this thread, finally thought I would answer..... My first car was a 1939 Chev, with a 52 Chev Automatic engine in it. It had 2 Carbs, and vacuum shift. The shifter had been converted to work regularly, or auto power shift mode. If you put it in the power shift mode you DID NOT hold the lever while shifting or it would break your wrist. Great car for it's day, and pretty fast for the time...... (Oct 23, 2007 | post #13)
Power steering hose replacement
Lowgear, It might help to know what engine we are talking about. I have an 02 4.0 4X4, and am sure that they are pretty much the same. I can look however if you have a 3.0 or the 4 cyl it won't help what ever information I give........ (Sep 12, 2007 | post #2)
Ranger runs rough and shows code 1400
Country, The code shows DPFE Circuit low input. Checking my CD on that subject I find it makes reference to the EGR circuit on the electrical side. If you don't have a tester, Auto Zone should be able to steer you in the right direction. Because they want to make a sale of parts, they most of the time check for free..... Hope this helps.... (Sep 9, 2007 | post #2)
You might want to check for 12V at the coil with the key on. If you have it then I would suspect the came sensor is bad. There is only 2 items that will keep the engine from running, 1. is spark, 2. is fuel...... You state that your buddy can smell fuel so the only thing left is ignition.... Dave....... 2002 ranger misfire rough idle
OK, I'm running out of ideas here...... Check for vacuum leak possible at the manifold where it hits the head. You can check that with WD40, and the engine running just spray it at the junction if you see smoke out the pipe you have a leak. Don't know where you are located, but if you lived in CT, I could put my scope on your ignition and see how that plug is firing.... You haven't stated whether you have a check engine light or not. If you do then Auto Zone will check it for free so they can sell you parts....... LOL I have been off line for a couple of days so I didn't see your post from a few days ago..... (Sep 4, 2007 | post #8)
There are only a couple of items that will cause overheating. 1. is if the fan clutch is bad so that when needed the fan is not kicking in. 2. The second is weather the thermostat is stuck closed. Of course you need to check the water level first. I am not saying this to be a smart ass by the way, I have seen it happen more than once...... Some people don't reallies that if the thermostat is stuck open, the water then flows too fast to get cooled down, and this will cause overheating as well...... (Aug 30, 2007 | post #2)
Donnie, while I can agree with a lot of what you say, I for one would not buy the 4dr model, or own it...... I don't like them if I want a car I will buy one. Now having said that, I will say that a 3.0 V6 is all that is really needed, with 4X4 with an XFER case that can be shifted into neutral. I would like to be able to tow it behind my motor home. Keep the weight down, remove the tow package. I have that on mine at present however I don't really need it, I would rather get the gas mileage with current pricing. I don't mind offering say a model that you describe however for me I don't want all that stuff, and wouldn't buy it. I have a 2001 XLT extended cab, with 4X4. I absolutely love it, not happy with the 18 mpg, however I can live with it for the next few years. One of the items you stated was bigger tires, keep in mind that if you go bigger is OK, as long as you don't go wider. When I got my Ranger it came in with over sized tires, and it was absolutely helpless in the snow in 2 wheel drive. I put the stock size on and no problems, the wide front tires would not turn the corners, it just wandered where ever it wanted to go. My gas mileage was also down around 13-14 mpg. So for me, keep the small truck, however offer a somewhat more bare model that what you suggest....... (Jul 29, 2007 | post #10)
2.3L manual ranger A/C Compressor Off and On
In a word you are low on freon. If you don't know how to add then you need to go to a shop that can top off your system...... (Jul 27, 2007 | post #3)
2002 ranger misfire rough idle
Compression check.... Pull the plugs and check compression. I would suspect that you have a stuck or burnt valve..... (Jul 27, 2007 | post #2)
Travis, I would suspect that you may have kinked the filler neck while working with it. I would take it apart again, and inspect for a blockage either created by yourself, or something that may have ended in the pipe while working on it.... (Jul 24, 2007 | post #2)
trying to get some advice about my ranger problems
James, You are on a different subject, therefor you should have started a new post. Keeping this one alive is not good for anyone....... Changing the fluid in the tranny more than likely will not help it. You will probably have to rebuild it as someone put a lot of stress on it to get the fluid brown,..... (May 23, 2007 | post #27)
Jonathan, From the discription you have either a bad coil pack, or plug wire. When you say you can pull a plugwire and the miss does not change, that cyclinder is not fireing. Did you check compression on that cyclinder? You could have a burned valve, I purchased a compression tester six months or so back, and was supprised that they are cheap. If the compression is low on that cyclinder there is your miss. If not then the coil pack or wire is bad...... (May 20, 2007 | post #19)
I don't think the Cavalier is a FORD product the last I checked. I think most people on this board are driving FORDS so don't expect a good answer any time soon. The other thing to consider is that this is a RANGER board...... Dave..... SORRY....... (May 17, 2007 | post #2)
Rhonda, You should have started a new post as this is different than the original question. That being said, my recommendation would be to find a ranger nearby that has the same engine, and ask the owner to look under the hood. These have been pretty much setup from the factory and never change as to where the wires go. If it has the coil block look very close at the top there might be numbers where the wires go. If we can help more, we need to know what engine you have 4 or 6 ect...... Dave...... (May 14, 2007 | post #25)
