Veteran Nichols faces challenge from rookie Tzimbal for Pajaro ...
After 8 years in office what does the PVUSD have to show for Nichols' leadership? A school system which is burdened by excessive ESL classes & programs which require a top-heavy administration to manage these programs. In return for ESL programs, other classes have been gutted, with virtually no arts or music classes left in our schools. Watsonville High, once the home to an outstanding music program- has no music classes - the first time since World War 1. 8 years is enough. It is truly time for a change. (1 hr ago | post #1)
Dan Harper: Taking up the ukulele ads some joy to life - Santa ...
Music has always been part of my life, starting with a recorder while in the 3rd grade at Mintie White in Watsonville. The in 5th grade, in walked a teacher with a large wooden case. Inside: ukeleles! Our class learned basic ukelele chords which launched me on a lifelong journey as a musician. Our local schools have had music virtually eliminated from every class. I'm happy to see that Mr. Harper and his friends are enjoying and sharing music; it makes everyone's lives better. Now, could you please help us get on the school administration's case and demand that our children me offered music in every grade and in every school. Thanx. (Sunday | post #1)

Both sides are just about the same. Although I've been a Demo, I'm not happy with where we stand. The deregulation started years ago and Clinton carried it on. Here is a little something that just underscores that its still 'business as usual. The pork attached to the bailout helps out businesses in Samoa which is a large tuna fishing area - which is run by Starkist - which is owned by Del Monte - which is based in Santa Francisco- which is represented by Pelosi. I wish Obama's positions were closer to Nader's positions than to McCain's positions. (Sunday | post #11)

The math isn't the point. People want real solutions and not a quick fix of the symptoms. Corporate socialism needs to stop and we can take the a big step by getting rid of the party that has blindly driven us down the road to ruination for the past 8 years. (Sunday | post #8)

"The Trabing Fire burned 640 acres, destroyed 26 homes, 48 outbuildings and damaged another 15 structures." Compare this acreage/home loss to the entire state acreage/structure loss and you can see the problems that eucs pose. (Thursday Oct 2 | post #1)

Oh, great. Just what we need - another career politician. Look around. Public offices are now staffed by these career pols and have run our country into one of the biggest messes that we have ever experience. Its the same path: unpopular high school political science wanna be; college political science wanna be; attend the lawyer mill; join the gopher pool serving local, self-serving politicians; inject yourself into all public debates no matter one's experience; run for local office. Here we go again. You do the same things the same way you get the same results/ (Monday Sep 29 | post #3)

Look at the past 8 years - from the Federal gov't on down to the PVUSD trustees Our economy and educational system are in a shambles. Any elected official who has been in office for 8 years or longer needs to be voted out immediately. California's educational system is a disgrace and at the bottom of lrankings nationally. PVUSD career trustees need to bow out now. You are part of the problem. (Tuesday Sep 23 | post #11)

With our national economy in a downward spiral, our State budget process limp and ineffectual and the PVUSD in poor shape, there is an easy decision to be made: vote out the incumbents. Its time to clean house of career politicians. (Friday Sep 19 | post #3)

All political decisions/agencies need to be based on geographical features- such as the boundaries of our watersheds and of our aquifers. Doug is correct that a regional body needs to be created to protect out natural resources. (Thursday Sep 18 | post #4)

Call this what it is: domestic terrorism. Gangs have many minors as members. Parents/guardians need to be held accountable for the actions of their children/wards. Charge the parents with the full extent of the law and make it financially crippling. Maybe we'll see some change. If our gov't can't stop gangs, make carry permits easier to obtain. We're lucky to have her back in the PVUSD. Her leadership is sorely needed by the North Zone. This is not a 9-5 position. Its all day with many evening meetings and weekend events. This is a proven administrator. Glad to have her back home. (Friday Sep 12 | post #3)

Its difficult to get an accurate count when parents pull kids out of class at the last moment, move to another school boundary or new kids turn up a week after school starts. Its not just a case of the District office not being able to count. (Sep 6, 2008 | post #2)
