And why isn't State Parks enforcing the state Harbors & Navigation law that disallows kayaks and standup paddle boards from being in the water next to surfers and swimmers? If you have all this time to hassle families on the beach then you should be enforcing laws that are enacted to protect the public from bodily harm. (Thursday Dec 3 | post #114)
Hawaiian royals honor Santa Cruz surfing history
That plaque is one heavy thing. It will be set on a boulder or other appropriate device. As with the Surfing Museum, the Santa Cruz Surfing Club Preservation Society can come up with the $ to fund the installation. And this isn't about 'US v. Them'. This is just a kind act of friendship from the Hawaiian royal family and the citizens of Santa Cruz. Many thanx also need to go out to SCSCPS members Kim Stoner and Matt Micuda who have done in depth research on the the princes' Santa Cruz surfing history. Kim & Matt were the lead in putting together a display at the SLV history Museum in Boulder Creek which chronicles thsese events from 1885. (Wednesday Nov 25 | post #12)
Santa Cruz County passenger rail a long-sought but uphill track
Wow, I missed that part in my deed: railroad in backyard. Maybe that is why I got such a good price on my house. (Nov 16, 2009 | post #34)

I believe the air ambulance medical person is a paramedic. Over the course of my career I have worked with both laypersons and people with higher educational degrees. I've found that most educated folk didn't know which end of a chain saw to pick up. Experience is an education and education in experience. Didn't Einstein drop out of high school? Video: Santa Cruz vs. Aptos boys basketball
The fertile soils of the Pajaro Valley were created by centuries of deposition of material during yearly flooding. Trying to channelize the river takes away this natural process. This is also the same for groundwater recharge. (Nov 11, 2009 | post #6)

State beaches may see half as many lifeguards next year
California advertises heavily to the world to come enjoy the beaches. Drowning/injury deaths will cost well more than staffing costs. If you truly want to support your State Parks buy a $120 annual pass. 100% of those funds stay in the State Parks coffers and DO NOT go into the State's general fund. (Nov 9, 2009 | post #2)

And now our state legislators have approved a bond for over $11B for a massive state water project. But it will be the same 'ol committees and people behind the same desks making the same 'ol decisions. Its time to vote them all out and and get fresh blood in the driver's seat. The same goes for all those in Santa Cruz County who have had a monopoly on county water policy. (Nov 5, 2009 | post #14)
Full slate of local state park cuts takes hold this week
An annual park pass of $120 goes directly to the State Parks Dep't and not to the general fund. I've been buying an annual pass for over 20 years..a great deal while I was raising my 3 children. If everyone who cares about our parks just buys an annual pass - and not waste time pushing for legislation for a vehicle registration increase or for another lobbying effort by another nonprofit group- then the problem would be solved. And you can charge out of state license plates an extra $3. (Nov 3, 2009 | post #29)
Full slate of state park cuts takes hold this week
Supporters of our parks have an option to keep parks open: buy an annual state parks pass for $120. Those funds stay in the parks budget and do not go into the general fund. (Nov 2, 2009 | post #1)

Outbreak not predicted for schools
Let's see what happens after the Thanksgiving and the holiday season. The media is yet to pick up on the implications of vacation travel or, more precisely, individuals returning home after traveling. Could be that people don't want to spook the travel industry/economy. (Oct 31, 2009 | post #3)
