Not that many years ago I traveled from Long Beach Airport to Phoenix two to three times a week on America West for business. There were at least two coyotes and later a pup that lived in the tall dead grass next to the runways and tarmacs. I always felt it quaint and settling to see one or two prance along next to a huge roaring jet with its ears cocked forward and glancing calmly from the plane to the ground and back as if it was ready to race. As we gained speed and the nose began to ease gently off the blacktop I'd watch the running animal as long as possible as we slid into the sky knowing he'd be waiting later that afternoon for the folks in the multi-million dollar behemoth to descend once more to the earth we both shared and loved. These store front loan sharks have been fleecing the poor of our city for many years. To suggest that the current economic problems is connected to these eyesores is idiotic. Lets face it. The biggest "service " they provide is cashing stolen and fraudulent checks that no legitimate bank would even consider touching. Boeing's challenge to tanker deal upheld
Will that put the C-17 back in the running if it is converted to a tanker from the current configuration of troop and equipment carrier? It would have be nice if reporter El-Hasan had mentioned that possibility. Yet he is up in Torrance at the Daily Breeze building so he may not be aware of Long Beach and our long ago glory in building the greatest aircraft for the U.S. Military and also of having an award winning newspaper for half a million people. Thank you City Council for starting an action that will place you in history and in the hearts and minds of the majority of the City of Long Beach. Please, please foolow through and work your very hardest to tear down that terrible wall that has hurt this city for 60 years. I remember the sight of breakers rolling like jello over the water, the sight and mostly the sound of of Mother Nature saying hello in her finest way. Yet most I recall that incredable small of the breaking waves foam filling the beach and often when the wind was just right it would delight pedestrians and drivers as far north 10th or even 12th street. Homeless program is denied Long Beach site
So few remember a man called Ronald Reagan who totally dismantled the mental health program that served California for many, many years. As our governor he tore down all of the mental hospitals and had then patients shipped back to the "approximate " area they had come from. His brilliant ideas was to have the local community care for these very ill citizens and yet he made no arrangements of any kind for this to be accomplished. Where the millions of dollars allocated for the old State Mental Hospitals went only God knows. This tragedy was brought on my an idiot governor who went on to be a befuddled president. Do me a favor and the next time you see a mentally disturbed man urinating on a sidewalk or are accosted my screaming filthy woman who needs medication, think of Ronnie. The three visions definitely belong together as a triptych and should be painted and placed at that multi-million dollar museum we built for this imbecile out in Simi Valley. Water conservation liked but idea of fines has many boiling mad
The rules are unfair. I do believe it is best not to water when the sun is shining as much of it is immediately absorbed by the sunlight, but the only fair way of doing this is to look at the dwelling, A three room apartment and a 17 room mansion should not be in the same category. The much larger home is of course paying enormous taxes and has maybe eight or nine people as occupants. The much smaller apartment should at the most have three or maybe four residents. So it does not take a rocket scientist to reason the bigger home will need much more water for showering, toilet, cooking, cleaning and so on. The square footage of the residence should be weighed when allotting water usage. Simple. (Tuesday Jun 10 | post #23)
