Health care a 'right'

Everyone needs payment to live, but healing others out of profit motive is a conflict of interest. Genuine healers live by high principles.  (May 8, 2009 | post #152)

Allen's Beacon on Mount Everest Signals OK

MOUNT EVEREST - In Mount Everest Base Camp, elevation 18,000', a brisk wind leaves a few inches of snow, but at 23,700', that brisk wind is over 100 mph, combined with arctic temperatures, making it feel like -70°C. Tents disappear beneath crushing drifts, assuming their tie-downs stay put. When tie-downs break or come loose from the ground, the tent and its contents can be lost, adding to the infamous trash collection accumulating on Mount Everest. Dan Allen and his team are hidden near C3, accepting the difficult weather, for the benefit expected when they launch their June 15 summit attempt.  (Jan 21, 2009 | post #1)

Teacher who spoke out on sex abuse loses job

TeacherBusted, the teacher is the one attacked in the case covered by the story starting this thread. The teacher was attacked by the Howard Center, the multi-million dollar non-profit that disagreed with the teacher's call for stricter handling of juvenile sex offenders, based on his 16 years working with them in one of the schools funded by the Howard Center. I think we owe it to Mr. Laramie that we show no disrespect toward him in this case. He has done absolutely nothing wrong. The wrong part of this case is that Howard Center can have whacked this man's livelihood through administrative posturing, fully protected by the law. Meanwhile, the Howard Center now must be now examined, so the public can discover the truth about treatment of sex offenders. The last thing Vermont needs is secrecy and information control regarding the debate on handling sex offenders. We need to find out how the Howard Center's policies on handling sex offenders might be part of a culture that permitted the crimes against Brooke Bennett. More at http://www.montpel ierwebsites.com/bl urb.php?dogNow=252 2 I don't want to take up too much space in here on this extremely sensitive topic.  (Oct 25, 2008 | post #2)

Sex law changes are coming

I promised I would get back to you on this. I don't have a complete answer for you yet. However, this new story out of Burlington, regarding the way the Howard Center, might be relevant. The meat of what I am saying is posted at the following link. I need to retain the ability to edit, if anything I have written is not completely accurate. So far as I know, this is all 100% accurate. Vermont Foliage in Montpelier in Photographs

Foliage is coming in nice this year. Still hard to know exactly how great it will be this year, but chances of being much better than last year seem high to me.  (Sep 20, 2008 | post #1)

Deacons of Deadwood - Riding on Montpelier, Vermont Oc...

I just spoke with Sam Allen on the phone. Nothing but a little water damage on his floor. Other than that, the ride on Montpelier is on for October 17.  (Sep 15, 2008 | post #7)

Sex law changes are coming

I don't understand the criticism toward Vermont, as if Vermont is permissive of sexual predation. Of course we are not going to let this kind of thing go on when there is something we can do to prevent it. Obviously, the process in place till now has holes that probably already are closed, as a result of Brooke Bennett's case. The tightening will be reinforced by new legislation. So, what is the criticism against Vermont? That we have not been tougher sooner? The sad fact is, up till now, our compassion for all parties, which has included certain perpetrators who have appeared to have shown remorse and to have changed, led Vermont officials to trust sex offenders' apparent change or cure. It's an understandable mistake, but we cannot do that anymore, now that we know cure is impossible to prove, even if it might be possible. Michael Jacques was proven safe, monitored by family members fully aware of his condition, and look what he has done! After that, how can anyone be proven safe? Sex offenders have to be under state control for the remainder of their lives, once they are discovered. It is not responsible to let these people into the general population.  (Sep 15, 2008 | post #10)

Chasing the Base Tag Like There Is No Tomorrow

Last night, Dan Allen attempted amends for the disastrous lost design inspiration on the training site. Had Allen been Johnny On The Spot, he would have had the base tags cut from the training site weeks ago. Instead, he has to put in a long night just to make up the ground he already had worked so hard to gain. http://www.montpel ierwebsites.com/bl urb.php?dogNow=230 7  (Sep 12, 2008 | post #1)

He's still chasing after that base tag, but he is looking pretty solid today, so fingers are crossed, bets are placed. The new scoreboard is awesome.  (Sep 11, 2008 | post #2)
