Pregnant woman stabbed in Capitola; boyfriend turns himself in ...

In response to "what a waste: There is no more crime in San Lornezo Valley than there is in any other town in Santa Cruz County. Alcohol was involved, which always impairs a person's judgment and seeing as people drink in just about every city, town and village all over the world, this type of crime, unhappily, can happen anywhere and that includes the pretty village of Capitola.  (Thursday Jul 17 | post #11)

Public gets look at Dominican's robotic surgeon - Santa Cruz Se...

Steady Eddy. One likes to hear those words before one gets wheeled into surgery. As compared to say, Shaky Jake. Rattled Rick. Baffled Barney. Crazy Chrissy. And so on. None of those names for a robot would inspire much confidence in the poor old soul being wheeled into surgery.  (Tuesday Jul 15 | post #7)

Street Smarts: Flying vs. driving and Watsonville traffic jams ...

Fly!! We drove down to SD two months ago for a wedding. Once you get past Santa Barbara, you have to deal with freeway traffic in LA, which is time consuming and stressful. Both ways. One very good thing about driving: by the time you get back up to the Central Coast, you are almost sobbing with delight at how darn pretty this place is, compared to Southern California.  (Monday Jul 14 | post #24)

Debate over day labor center exposes county's cultural divide -...

I agree with you, Victoria. Not very bright on our part. We were new at hiring day laborers and never did it again. We hire real contractors now. Live and learn.  (Friday Jul 11 | post #95)

Hiya Ace! Re-read my post, please. A FEW YEARS ago, we hired the two men. No "burgle" , so far. And I do have two very large dogs. Cheers!  (Friday Jul 11 | post #94)

Debate over day labor center exposes county's cultural divide -...

Mr. Daisy Mae and myself went down to Lumbermen's a few years ago when it was still San Lorenzo Lumber and picked up two day laborers to dug a big hole in our backyard. One spoke English fairly well and stood around while the non-English speaking man did most of the work. When the job was done, the four of us stood in the driveway. Money was discussed. All of us but the English speaking day laborer seemed happy with 75.00 dollars each for the job, which took the other man about two hours to do. (one could tell the man who did all the work was happy, as he took the cash from us, smiling.) The day laborer who spoke English began to argue with us. He got angry and raised his voice. Said he wanted more than 75 dollars! He snatched the cash from the other guy, handed it back to us and said, more more! We gave them each 25.00 more, told them to take the bus back to town and never, ever hired another day laborer. We were SO scammed and we knew it.  (Friday Jul 11 | post #87)

Offensive fliers not a crime, deputies say - Santa Cruz Sentinel

There I was, taking the KKK article seriously, shaking my head thinking, "sheesh" . I read the first ten posts, including Todd's long poem. As soon as I read Love Child's post, I burst out laughing. Darnit, that felt good! I needed that belly laugh.  (Wednesday Jul 9 | post #29)

Burglar breaks into SPCA, takes 12-week-old puppy - Santa Cruz ...

It's sad, but one of my neighbors back in the early '80's was very much into pit bulls. He didn't bother with a fenced in yard. The pits ran loose. One would get shot by a neighbor as it ran loose at night. The pit owner would get another dog a few months later. Same thing. It would run loose, get shot. Finally, the pit owner lost his home to foreclosure and the invasion of the pits ended. Poor dogs. All because they belonged to the village idiot. Doggie Comando Chick, I give you two thumbs up! :)  (Saturday Jul 5 | post #14)
