Midterm Elections 2010 - Madison, WI

I've spoken to many voters since the 2010 midterm elections who would take back their votes if they could. Unfortunately, they're rights are being bulldozed along with everyone else's- until the RECALL!  (Nov 7, 2011 | post #10)

Immigration - Madison, WI

I understand immigration has impacted Arizona more than many states. However, it appears Arizona has become the poster child for the "soulless right," absorbing & regurgitating all their mean, hateful, vindictive fear mongering, then directing it towards "immigrants ". Divide & distract! Babies born of immigrants on American soil have long been accepted as American citizens, but AZ wants to give them "special " birth certificates denoting they are NOT regarded as REAL Arizona residents? Ugh! Insisting immigrants carry their "papers" at all times? Perhaps they should be forced to sew the "star of Mexico" on their clothing to ID themselves? This is NOT a state I will willingly cross the borders of soon. They should consider secession if they insist on overriding federal laws in favor of their own.  (Nov 7, 2011 | post #126)

Health Care - Madison, WI

My preference would have been an immediate single payer health care plan, but I support aspects of Obama's health care policy as opposed to continuing to allow health insurance providers to run rampant with coverage premiums, dropping ill people from their plans, or denying coverage to anyone with medical histories of anything from hang nails, etc..  (Nov 7, 2011 | post #23)

Offshore Drilling - Madison, WI

The burgeoning requests for expanding offshore drilling is driven not so much by need as the greed of the oil companies to increase their profits. The entire process of applying for permits, studies to guarantee safety and protection of surrounding wilderness, and the competency of the companies themselves to maintain their equipment has come under increasing scrutiny as the muddied interplay between the oil companies & government officials charged with granting permits is exposed. I'd like to call a halt to ANY further offshore drilling permits until the process is revamped, and our efforts are redirected primarily to other means of creating energy to meet our needs.  (Nov 7, 2011 | post #7)

Ryan Medicare Plan - Madison, WI

Unlike several people who responded, (Opsia & DD Highbeam), I'll address my answer to the question asked rather than resort to attacking others- I oppose Paul Ryan's plan for Medicare because it follows the same pattern as every other solution he offers- the less wealthy 99% of the U.S. population is held responsible for covering deficit spending that ballooned as a result of multiple illegal wars the US has started or became involved in, major reductions in taxes paid by the wealthy (and desperately defended by the GOP), the laxness of the government to control the costs of drugs & health care costs, large subsidies paid out to corporations making huge profits (but paying few, if any taxes), lack of any oversight of the billions of $$$ constantly handed to the Pentagon. There are many ways to clean house before endangering the lives of millions of Americans by denying them health care services.  (Nov 7, 2011 | post #35)

Death Penalty - Madison, WI

I do not advocate the death penalty under any circumstances. I DO advocate addressing the multiple circumstances that may have led to the Arizona shooting-  (Nov 7, 2011 | post #2)

Nuclear Power - Madison, WI

There is a great deal of information regarding the safety of construction & operation of nuclear power plants that's not been made public. I prefer that we direct our energies & resources to greener, alternative ways of accessing energy, rather than finding out the hard way, as the Japanese did, that nuclear power plants are disasters waiting to happen.  (Nov 7, 2011 | post #13)

Gay Marriage - Madison, WI

I know many gay people & couples. Many of the couples have been together for years, and have worked to overcome the extra barriers they encounter as same-sex partners. The ones who have chosen to have children are committed, supportive parents. I see no reason that they should not enjoy the same legal rights as heterosexual married couples do.  (Nov 7, 2011 | post #17)

Gun Control - Madison, WI

I've lived in Madison for 40 years, and have yet to encounter a situation that I felt in need of a gun here, or any other place in Wisconsin. It's mostly gun proponents spreading fear among the fearful....  (Nov 7, 2011 | post #10)
