Rules Change For Counting High School Grads

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- New Mexico schools will soon get a clearer picture of their graduation rates. Currently, the official rate is the number of seniors who start the year and finish it. But the federal government says states now have to report the number of incoming freshmen who graduate in four years. And school official tell Action 7 News that's a big problem because between freshman and senior years you see about a third fewer kids. This summer, they'll change the graduation rate and calculate this year's seniors and compare it to the freshmen class four years ago. The head of New Mexico's Public Schools expects a big drop in the numbers. Right now a number of school districts already track incoming freshmen who graduate, including Albuquerque Public Schools.  (Mar 25, 2008 | post #1)

Olympic torch launch disrupted

I have actually gone down this road and it was expensive. When they work, they do work well. Save money, yes but the constant upkeep and maintenance removes any thought of savings. It was a relief just to get rid of it all.  (Mar 25, 2008 | post #83)

Report: Chavez says Richardson's disloyal

Clinton had the morals of a nymphomic dog but he was an excellent President and Politician. Richardson has been good for New Mexico, building back up of what was left of the infrastructure. frankly I could careless about Barack or Clinton as i am now not voting due to lack of decent choice. Be that as it may. Richardson just "screwed the pooch" and he is heading for the animal shelter. Too bad.  (Mar 25, 2008 | post #17)
