How long does it take to become local?

I think we mostly agree. I don't know how to measure of societies are equally guilty, and I still think that is a stretch. I would think that you would find more prejudice in the Gaza Strip than you would in Oslo. As far as your neck of the woods, I've never been to the Big Island, so I don't know what it's like there. I've been to the other inhabited islands, except for Niihau. As a visitor, things were fine for me, but anyone's mileage may vary.  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #207)

Nope, now it's equal opportunity, there are people from many races.  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #203)

Depends on the agency. I don't know what the specific policy of the State Department is. The agency that I am very familiar with does not require carrying 24/7, allows up to double lock a firearm if you do not have it with you, and they do not allow the consumption of alcohol while carrying. Important to note here, doing so would not be illegal, but it would be administratively ring and could subject one to disciplinary action. Carrying personally owned firearms in general is covered by 18 USC 926(b) and 18 USC 926(c). Deedy was carrying a DSS firearm so the agency policy would be applicable, not other laws. From other federal agency policies I have looked at, most do not allow for alcohol consumption, it would be an administrative violation, but not illegal. It may be possible to prove if Deedy was drinking and how much. Did he use his credit card? Was he on surveillance at a bar or club drinking, all that could be subpoenaed and used against him. I think he will ultimately be acquitted. But time will tell.  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #202)

What you refer to is when Federal Agents act within the scope of their employment. Deedy was there for for summit, but was he on duty at that time? I don't believe he was. According to a State Department Special Agent who was on the plane with me back to the mainland, he was not on duty at the time. I don't think Deedy can use his employment as cover. The state tried to go after him for carrying a gun, but if he was carrying a weapon or firearm as allowed by state department policy, he is immune from prosecution for the gun charge, regardless of the fact if he was drunk or or not. If it was determined he was drunk, the State Department can take administrative action against him for carrying a department firearm while intoxicated. In my experience, agencies will not take administrative action until the criminal case is closed. Assuming he was was derelict of duty, that wouldn't be a state crime and therefore could not be brought into a state court. The core of the case will eventually come down to if Deedy acted in self-defense or not.  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #198)

Yes, we are regrouping to re-learn the lost art of plundering and raping. LOL  (Feb 17, 2013 | post #197)

Yep, that incident quickly became a circus. The whole thing is sad, but that's why it's never wise to assault someone. I think Deedy was ultimately cleared. He was there for work, I doubt he would ever go back for a vacation..... Maybe to the Big Island...but probably not Honolulu.  (Feb 14, 2013 | post #178)

That can't be true :). It must just be the white man's perception. After all, we are used to conquering, raping natives, and plundering,  (Feb 14, 2013 | post #177)

Or they can possible end up like that gangbanger who got shot by that State Department Special Agent at the Mickey D's during Asian Pacific Summit back in November of 2011.... I guess he really wanted a "carry out".  (Feb 13, 2013 | post #166)

There is a lot of truth to what you're saying. I don't argue that. I never said everything is "honkydory ", but the topic was Hawaii (Kaua'i) and how long it takes to be a local. If the topic was about the Detroit Metro area, then I would tell you that things aren't "honkydory " In fact, one of the most segregated states I've ever lived in is Michigan.  (Feb 13, 2013 | post #164)
