U.S. trails other nations in student test scores

This story highlights one of the main problems with the education system....the unions. CTA, is and has always been about the teachers, not the students. Despite a total lack of performance, they threaten to sue, because the parents had the gall to hold them accountable. Until we dismantle the broken system that rewards underperforming teachers we will never get past the terrible scores we currently have. As for the single parent houses, who could expect the majority of the children to excel when they are handicapped to begin with? (Dec 8, 2010 | post #4)

Once slow-moving threat, global warming speeds up, leavin...

Just checked back to see if the kool-aid drinkers are still clinging to the AGW lie. At some point you will have to accept the facts. The CO2 theory of warming the planet does not survive the data. The cooling trend of the last ten or so years kind of kills the whole premise. Can't we move past the hype and deal with real problems. Like how we will get better mileage out of our cars, or how we will begin to get off foreign oil and on to nuclear power. (Apr 28, 2010 | post #22232)

To hojo1962, Thank you for posting a well reasoned answer to the kool-aid drinking AGW proponents that continuously cling to the bad data and prediction if the UNIPCC. Using real, unfettered data, we can see the premise for the AGW theory is incorrect. As pointed out, most of the hottest days occurred 60+ years ago. We all need to be concerned that if we don't make enough noise, our leaders will not stop and look at the shame job that has been done on the world in the name of science. All Cap and Trade nonsense needs to be put on hold....California has the rediculous AB32 that will kill jobs and is completely unnessesary! (Apr 20, 2010 | post #22130)

To the AGW crowd, this morning I heard the statistic that 65% of meteorologist beleive that temperature changes are naturally occuring, not man-made. These are the same people who struggle to predict the weather more than a few days out, let alone years out. The point is that they use the same modeling the AGW proponents use and understand that the flaw in the AGW theory makes the theory worthless. If you can't predict the weather more than a few days, how can you predict the weather into the distant future? (Mar 30, 2010 | post #21691)

Two dads are as good as a mom and a dad

While I would never impose my values on anyone, it is hard to understand how a ration arguement can be made for same value for a mono-sex family versus a dual-sex family. The dual-sex family is based on the dynamic that each of the parents brings from their experience as humans. The male and female perspective, that is recognized as an ideal situation, carries centuries of examples of the value. Mono-sex familys while loving and nurturing in their desire, do not have the same dynamic that the differing members can offer. Recongnizing that a dual-sex relationship is the ideal situation, excepting for emergency situations, why would someone purposely deny a child a complete growing experience with the optimum environment for growth and development. (Mar 20, 2010 | post #66)

Once slow-moving threat, global warming speeds up, leavin...

Who could trust anything that dribbles out of the IPCC, their credibility is nonexistant with critical thinking individuals....... As an avid follower of the theoretical man-made global warming theory, I am watching carefully to see the reaction of the government departments as the news of the problems with the theory and the data surface. When Proffesor Jones of East Anglia in the UK admitted, in an article on February 17, 2010 in the BBC, that there had been to no statistical warming (0.6 which is within a normal statistical fluctuation) and that much of the data used to support the IPCC report from 2007 was invalid, it called into question the entire basis for much of the so-called climate change legislation being proposed. Further, since the premise of the man-made theory was that increased CO2 was warming the planet. If we had no real warming for the past fifteen years, the CO2 theory is not valid and the whole house of cards begins to tumble Many of the died in the wool supporters of the theory of man-made global warming have stopped arguing based on global warming but have begun using the new and improved argument based on "climate change." Either argument is now difficult to support if a genuine look at the facts and the science is made. The IPCC report that was supposed to be the "gold standard" appears to be biased, riddled with errors and looks more like a "pyrite standard." Given that many nations and government agencies used the recommendations from the IPCC report, and given the recent revelations, we as a country and a world owe it to our family's and economies to stop all legislation regarding CO2 emissions and wait for genuine science to give us some answers we can count on. (Mar 20, 2010 | post #21243)

To those of you still clinging to the AGW lie.....my heart goes out to you. With the best of intentions, you cling to data and predictions that have been discredited to a point that only the most strident, kool-aid driking lefties can still attempt to defend. Although I have enjoyed the discussion, within the next six months the idea of man-made global warming will go the way of the global cooling we were experiencing in the 1970's (Mar 11, 2010 | post #20845)

Study: Despite law, women earning less

What an example of a stupid, pointless story....the author wants to compare the earnings of men and women as unequal, but fails to do a study that actually does that. By using the comparison of apples and oranges, it is easy to say that women only earn 68% of what men earn. In the US if you take the work, job by job, women earn exactly the same as men. In other countries??? (Mar 8, 2010 | post #2)

Environmental rules, regulations enter into 2010

The quotes left by JRS show a great example of how distorted the value system of the left is. Guilt free at last!!!! what distorted, guild ridden exitence. No wonder they think humans are the problem! Thankfully, they are in the minority....and should be kept in the minority!3212 (Mar 7, 2010 | post #5)

It seems so obvious that ALL the information and opinions used to support man-made global warming are tainted by the actions of Anglia data hoax and the BIAS efforts of the IPCC. To those still clinging to the lie......we welcome you to the island of truth! GLOBAL WARMING DOES NOT EXIST!! (Mar 3, 2010 | post #20481)

Here we go....lets look at this for the facts. You (Fair Game) say, "The temperature record stands." Fact: The head of Anglias Center for Climate Study admits, based on his low quality data, that there has been no global warming in the past fifteen years." Additionally, he admitted that the role he played as keeper of the data was comprimised by doing such a sloppy job of keeping records. You say " Deniers have smeared the scientists involved and lied about the data." Fact: As a closer look at the overall value of the data system has revealed, most collection sites failed to properly shield the thermometers resulting in skewed results. Add to that the problems with the Anglia data, the politically biased report the IPCC produced and it is hard for a reasonalble person to still cling to the premise of man-made climate change. You say, "Rising temperatures are confirmed by a lot of evidence. What would be a better measurement of temperature than a thermometer? You say,"The deniers claims that the temperature record has been manipulated is just a cynical lie." What about the relevations of the Anglia data, or the issues of the IPCC report? (Feb 27, 2010 | post #20004)

Meg Whitman holds forth on guns, gays, government

Here is another so-called successful CEO that thinks running a state government is like running a business. And, for her to think the Governor is going to fix a problem that really has it's cancerous center in the state legislature, shows the glaring misunderstaning of the situation and problem. Meg Whitman seems like another well meaning business type that lacks the political instincts and skills to affect any real change. Unless she is willing to take on the stranglehold in Sacramento, her efforts will have little influence on genuine change. I hope she is more than I have seen so far.... (Feb 27, 2010 | post #14)

As I read the posts of the died in the wool global warming kool aid drinkers I notice a shift in their arguement....since the temperature measurement and recording has been shown to be inaccurate, manipulated and biased, i.e. Anglia. The new arguement is based on CO2 theories that are broad enough to be considered, if only for a moment. If you have been arguing in favor of man made global warming for years, I geuss it would be difficult to back up and establish a new premise, sorry for your loss!! (Feb 27, 2010 | post #19996)

who="Truth Seeker"<qu oted text> LOL, it may not exist in your mind but science tells us different, the seas are warming, the air is warming, and the ice is melting. All the long term graphs show this clearly. Empirical measurements of the Earth's heat content show the planet is still accumulating heat and global warming is still happening The entire planet is accumulating heat due to an energy imbalance. The atmosphere is warming. Oceans are accumulating energy. Land absorbs energy and ice absorbs heat to melt. To get the full picture on global warming, you need to view the Earth's entire heat content. This analysis is performed in An observationally based energy balance for the Earth since 1950 (Murphy 2009) which adds up heat content from the ocean, atmosphere, land and ice. To calculate the Earth's total heat content, the authors used data of ocean heat content from the upper 700 metres. They included heat content from deeper waters down to 3000 metres depth. They computed atmospheric heat content using the surface temperature record and the heat capacity of the troposphere. Land and ice heat content (eg - the energy required to melt ice) were also included. Globally, the oceans continued to accumulate heat right to the end of 2008. Over the last 5 years, the oceans have been absorbing heat at a rate of 0.77 0.11 Wm−2. Combined with the results of Murphy 2009, we now see a picture of continued global warming. How does this value compare to other estimates of energy imbalance? Willis 2004 combines satellite altimetry with ocean heat measurements to find an ocean warming rate of 0.85 0.12 Wm−2 from 1993 to 2003. Hansen 2005, using ocean heat data, calculated the planet's energy imbalance in 2003 to be 0.85 0.15 Wm−2. Trenberth 2009 examined satellite measurements of incoming and outgoing radiation for the March 2000 to May 2004 period and found the planet accumulating energy at a rate of 0.9 0.15 Wm−2. These results all find broad agreement and all find a statistically significant positive energy imbalance. Our climate is still accumulating heat. Global warming is still happening. Energy imbalance, obsorbing energy, I think maybe JRS is correct, you are an ignorant usefull idiot with little understanding of what you write about! I read somewhere once that you should never argue with an idiot......you are a great example of why! (Feb 27, 2010 | post #19989)

The changing ice patterns are hard to pin down. As the average temperature has not really changed we would have to look at the patterns of the water in the area. Since we have been studying this for such a short period of time, it is imperative that we ensure that we collect good data and ensure we make decisions based on real science, not the biased propaganda that was presented by the IPCC (Feb 26, 2010 | post #19915)
