As You See It: Dec. 19, 2009

All true downtown. But isn't Santa Cruz WONDERFUL? You can park a dumpy old Toyota motorhome all day after day on West Cliff with a Goodwill bicycle sticking out in back for FREE! Nobody hits the bike either!  (1 hr ago | post #19)

Climate change pact could benefit Monterey Bay

Won't matter anyway. What was that- $800 billion annually? Sung to the song 'In The Year 2525': "In the year 2525, thank God we're not alive....." Won't be able to afford a toothpick float.  (10 hrs ago | post #9)

Did Mr. Bendix say he didn't like or hated Santa Cruz? I must have missed that post. Many people comment about West Cliff becoming a sewer free-for-all, homeless camps all along the river, beggars, thieves staling recyclables, using private washers and driers, roaming gangs,.... bla bla bla..... but nowhere does most people say that they hold hatred for Santa Cruz. I am not on his side or anything; but if I complain about bums and get that "third degree" for hating a place that I don't - impressions and assumptions and become long drawn out facts to some; ruining future points or comments. Or maybe he does hate Santa Cruz, but I doubt that.  (Yesterday | post #38)

State Sees Dip In Growth???? 38.5 million people? That is a dip? Thank goodness Channel 8 news filled me in about all those failed abortions. And before the usual cry "we are broke! we cannot afford it!"- tell that to Hillary Clinton; something like $100 billion (with a 'B') to poor countries or some darn thing over at Climategate.  (Thursday | post #6)

As We See It: Wrong time for amnesty

"have to learn English" $500. No problem. La cucaracha speak English?? No way Jose'. There is the 'stickler'. AM FM radio, TV channels. No Spanish; no job. Telephone games by the thousands. Another government caused brick wall.  (Thursday Dec 17 | post #23)

County joins city's push for new Arana Gulch trail

Certainly. I suggested an aqueduct bridge to connect Broadway and Brommer- nicely level above the Gulch/Yacht Harbour with 4 or 5 arches so only the supports would touch the land (in small areas). Nicely aged eco-friendly brick or stones. Fit right into local environments without even disturbing the 3-toed salamander! However, that was about 1985 when gas was under $1.25 a gallon. Last thing I heard in the cement palace, amid the laughter; was "... should just call a cab!"  (Wednesday Dec 16 | post #89)

Pertaining to a small mention in the letter: yes, we are aware. Very aware. Very aware that we are broke. Case closed. Right hand: right pillow; left hand left pillow. Sit down slowly. If a dumb lane is necessary- double gas costs. If a stupid bridge is necessary- register bikes and charge a toll. Priorities are all backwards. Live forever without a car. Live forever without a bicycle. Live forever without tourists, fame or fortune, and so on. But those roaming gangs can kill and they are stupid enough to try.... our priorities should be putting a quick end to gangland activities.  (Wednesday Dec 16 | post #21)

Oh well; we cannot afford the bike trail - so what say we go back to arguing about building a useless lane to Santa Cruz County lines to bottleneck there -or bringing up Arana Gulch, or the doomed lagoon, or round-abouts, or something else we cannot afford?  (Wednesday Dec 16 | post #12)

Excellent idea!! Those RVs seem to have a schedule. They park on Pelton St., Columbia St., or Woodrow St. until someone complains or an abandoned ticket appears; then either the vehicle shows up at the Lighthouse parking lot or the ticket vanishes and the vehicle is moved 20 feet- then the whole 'trading places' starts all over. They are also "trading " panhandlers up by Safeway. New one today. Funniest group-playing that "allow-allow- allow" in Santa Cruz right to the limit! How convenient- with U-Save and Burger King right there!  (Tuesday Dec 15 | post #66)

Monterey Bay Trail wins $800,000 of federal funds

Sad that it took so long. Our country was not even in debt to any great extent in the early 1980s. I wanted to stay in Santa Cruz and work in Watsonvile so I think it was Cranston or Panetta I asked for thus trail. Didn't work; had to move to Watsonville, then move back. This idea came up again and again through the '80s, '90s, 2000s. Went nowhere. Very glad it once again appeared.  (Tuesday Dec 15 | post #32)

Men with bat, knife arrested in downtown Santa Cruz

They already did as soon as Almar shopping center opened. Just yesterday I had to avoid that cardboard sign begging for money. OH! Not the right sign...... That is just another sign of the deterioration; but that is another type of gang.  (Tuesday Dec 15 | post #94)
