Who's running show in Middletown?

We've had big storms here before and the roads were in better condition. My street, and all of the sidestreets where I live have had enough room for one car to fit down since we had a plow (from a contractor) come through only once. To my amazement a county plow came through LAST NIGHT, once a bunch of the snow had already melted. THe main roads have been clear for quite some time, for a plow to just come through for the side roads a week after the storm is unacceptable.  (Jan 3, 2011 | post #6)

Who do you support for U.S. House in New Jersey (District...

Enough of these career politicians who are in for their own interests and not that of the people they are supposed to represent. Enough of democrats in this state running the budget on the backs of the middle class.  (Oct 30, 2010 | post #26)

buying flowers

Just a heads up for anyone shopping for mums this time of year. I was at one of the big home improvement places (rte 35) yesterday and they were charging $3.40 for small pots of mums, and they were not in the best of shape. I went to a local private nursery (in hazlet, rte 36) and he was charging $10 for 3 pots for plants that were larger and in much better shape. Support your local business when possible, I've found better prices in some of the local hardware stores as well, than in the large chain home improvement centers.  (Sep 20, 2010 | post #1)

Middletown Adopts Resolution Calling For Removal Of Educa...

Sounds good to me, doubt it will happen. I never thought it was fair for those who don't have children (we have 1) to have to pay such high taxes because a good portion of it goes towards the schools.  (Aug 25, 2010 | post #1)

Keansburg is the Gem of the Shore Area

Parts of keansburg are ok, it's not as bad as some are making it out to be, and it is certainly not the gem of the bayshore. If you do go through the police blotters, you would see that most of the crime, or people arrested in the immediate towns (hazlet/middletown ) is/are from the burg. I live in middletown (dry side) and the few times we've had problems around here (car break ins) it was people from keansburg that were arrested, but there are still some punk kids in this area as well who are going to turn out to be real gems when they "grow up". I really wish the township would do something about the state of the beach though, it's terribly filthy.  (Aug 13, 2010 | post #164)

Wall police captain acquitted of DWI

There is no way this person would have had charges dropped if he was a civilian. Municipal prosecutors and judges are ordered by the state and federal gov't to aggressively prosecute dwi cases. If a particular municipality is found to have X amount of dwi cases dismissed (they can NOT be pleaded down) state and federal monies are withheld. It is extremely rare that a dwi case is dismissed, and very rare that someone with a bac over 0.08 is prosecuted at the lower bac (if proof can be found that the alcotest was inopperative or the defendant was not under observation for the entirety, from arrest to bac screening. Many lawyers, municipal prosecutors, municipal judges and police officers have a fairly intimate working relationship (often sharing the same building and coming into contact with each other quite often), to have any cases involving the above in municipal court should not be allowed. The ONLY reason this officer was not found guilty is because he is not joe public, who would be w/o a license for at least 1 year, and have to go to classes for dwi counseling, in which the counselors may find the individual needs to enter a rehab facility.  (Jul 11, 2010 | post #57)
