police chief

I have been gone for almost two years now so I can only refer to the men I worked with. If I were going to promote from within 3 of the men have military backgrounds, two of them hold the rank of Captain one of those is a Vietnam Vet and the other retired from the service and they have worked their way up from the bottom here in Booneville. Then you have a couple sergeants that have military service and I believe one was activated during dessert storm and the other did at least one tour in Iraq. These men are well trained as our military is one of the best trained in the world, know about structure, and all the other aspects you pointed out earlier. That’s just scratching the surface. As to the training the next chief, you took what I said out of context, I said "IF" the men who have rank are not trained it falls back on the mayor and board. They know the men have to be trained and all I ever heard while I was there, especially near the end was if the training was not free you could not go unless you paid for it. Believe it or not there were some who fixed it so they could get the training. The board controls what the department heads do and they do play a roll. I am not saying "all" the responsibility is theirs but they shoulder a large part of it because they have the final say. Look I have been around these politics for 20+ years now and all I am trying to get across is that these men deserve a chance, Booneville has been given over to out of towners for the last 9 years .....its not working.... find the best suited and what he lacks train him, I bet it won't take much....He will have to get the boards approval on most anything he does anyway.....  (Sep 18, 2011 | post #166)

I believe that several of the current officers have fine standards and ethics (notice I did not say all but I won't go there). SORRY TYPO  (Sep 17, 2011 | post #161)

I will agree that we disagree.... Booneville has tried that 2 times in a row and the "Big City" chief’s ideals do not coexist with small town politics. I believe that the several of the current officers have fine standards and ethics (notice I did not say all but I won't go there). As I said earlier Booneville has several good men and I fault this and former boards for not grooming the next chief by training the shift supervisors that they have/had on staff. That to me is poor planning.  (Sep 17, 2011 | post #160)

I totally agree and as much as it pains me to say this.... I had rather see Ramey get the Position than to see another person come in from out of town who is unknown to Booneville..... Not saying that he is the only choice Booneville has by any stretch of the imagination nor would he be my choice.... any man holding rank at the department should be considered..... Those who know me know that I would rather take a beating than to even suggest Ramey but like Mr. Kelley said, if you do not promote from within then the moral goes out the window and we continue to train police officers for other agencies, keep a high turn-over and the citizens of Prentiss county suffer in the long run....  (Sep 17, 2011 | post #157)

Ok let’s try and act like adults, stop assuming that just because someone works for or under someone that they automatically act like them. I worked under Ramey and EVERYBODY KNOWS we are like oil and water. If that were the case then we have several former officers that worked with and/or under people (currently holding offices in all forms of government, state and local that ya'll support) who wound up fired and/or serving time. Do you blame that individual or the people that they worked for/under? I believe that we will be best served by getting to know the officers/officials before we rush to judgment. I have had the pleasure of working with Officer Lambert and know some of his folks, he comes from good, hardworking, honest families on both sides and will make a good chief in the future. Booneville has several good men working there and we are blessed to have them. Mississippi is an at will state which means you can basically be fired for no reason so these men have to contend with the elected officials and still try to do the job that they were trained to do. To quote one of Booneville's former chiefs..."You can't do your job and please everybody"... .  (Sep 17, 2011 | post #156)

New Mayor.......

The main point here was the mayor did not do it by himself, Barber and his people brought them to the state, the location, our resources, PCDA played a big part.  (Sep 17, 2011 | post #21)

New Mayor.......

I believe that Gov Barber brought the industry to Ms and Booneville. Our location and access to hardwood brought them to Prentiss Co.... and those that are supporting him are the few that he didn't turn his back on.... I was one of the ones encouraging people to vote for him in the beginning and he knew it but after the power went to his head he forgot or just didn't care.. To me that means he will do that to who ever/when ever it benefits him.... and the thing is I am not the only one.... Keep on believing in him.... maybe you will get lucky and he wont turn on you.... No I am not bitter.... I feel sorry for him because he will end up like several ex-chiefs but by the time he figures out who used him it will be toooo late. Time will prove me right just like it has in the past.....  (Sep 13, 2011 | post #11)
