The Fear of Atheism

Furthermore, I have studied the christian religion and human societies for awhile. I was raised Southern Baptist and a believer. The most morale, upstanding, helpful "Christ-like " people have have meet in my life where Atheist. It's because they wanted to live that way, not because they feel that they had to outta fear. Think about this: Say that you are 100% correct and their is a God. 2 people die and go to judgment. The first person helped feed and clothed the homeless and children, lived a peaceful and fruitful life, but didn't believe in God. The second person, did nothing but chase money, killed in the name of God and Politics, turned away the hungry and was totally self-serving, but praised God. Which gets into heaven? The second person that did all that but believed or the first person who lived life as God wanted but didn't believe? As said earlier in this thread, "The only unforgivable sin is not believing in God". If God condemns good people and forgives the bad simply on praise, then I ask; Is that any type of God worthy of praise?  (Jun 3, 2012 | post #22)

The Fear of Atheism

There are just as many different type of people. Just because I'm atheist doesn't mean I don't respect your right to believe in God. It doesn't mean that I think you are a bad person for believing. I do not protest churches, mosques or synagogues, or Scientology orgs for that matter. I just can't stand the fact that most religious people can't respect my right to not believe. Just because some don't believe doesn't mean that they are bad people either. What makes it bad is when people force their beliefs on others. I have every much the right to believe that God doesn't exist as much as you have to believe that God does. It's the religious that usually attack, Atheist. Questioning and having a philosophical debate isn't attacking but forcing others to live according to your beliefs is.  (Jun 3, 2012 | post #21)

They attack simply because some questions their god and dares them to think for themselves and face a lie.  (Jun 2, 2012 | post #19)

The Fear of Atheism

Historically, There were many Gods. All with different morality. Historically, religion has lead to ,more death, poverty and slavery of man than anything else.  (Jun 2, 2012 | post #18)

I think it's because it's so embedded so deep within those who believe that once they admit to themselves that it all is just a convenience everything the believe in falls apart. It's not easy to admit to living a lie. It's off the self thinking. It's much more convenient to explain things away simply by saying "God" or "It says in the bible" and the best of all, to justify all the crappy way you treat others because again "The bible says so". Why think of things myself when it's easier to cherry pick a bible verse and hid behind that as justification? That is the mindset and once questioned, fear and aggression and their defenses arise.  (Jun 1, 2012 | post #12)

Internet Cheating?????

Most people cheat because the are longing for something or have a desire that is being unfulfilled. Also, probably lack of communication. So when they talk on the interwebs, they are getting to communicate that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their partner. Keep in mind 2 things. 1. The internet is just a modern tool that can facilitate it. Cheating has been going on way before the computer or even electricity. 2. Biologically, we are not monogamous creatures and marriage is work. I would venture to say if opportunity presented itself with an attractive person and an absolute guarantee that know one will ever know, about 75% of all men would cheat and 50% of all women would cheat.  (Jun 1, 2012 | post #9)
