71,000 Ga. Children to Lose Dental Care

so doctor, why not have your own practice where the charges cover the actual costs instead of the screwy government controlled system we are in now? with market competetion, charges would be where most patients could afford them on their own, instead of asking their employer or neighbor (via taxes) to pay for them. there would always be the dentists who 'just wanted to help people' who would do charity care for the truly poor.  (Aug 10, 2007 | post #38)

They do. The problem is that they want more of my tax dollars to entitle more. Enough is enough.  (Aug 10, 2007 | post #37)

Publix Selling Drugs For Free?

i'm sorry you've had some tough experiences. sociey must have the discussion and debate immediately about drawing the line. the generation about to enter medicare is about to bankrupt it. i don't hear any of that generation speaking out about means testing for benefits. they have a responsibility to step up and change the system now or they leave it for their children suffer and the bill will be UNBELIEVABLE. i know about sickness and terminal illness. i see patients everyday with both. my mother in law has terminal leukemia. she's at home. the nursing home is a convienence. other cultures keep their elderly at home. because the government funds it, and some people don't take responsibility for their elders, they stick them in nursing homes here in the US. the sitter can be a son, daughter, or grandchild. did you hear Newt's comments about the nursing home today? it's cheaper to live on a cruise ship than live in the government funded and over-regulated nursing home. he said the AARP’s website says that the average cost of nursing home care – which exists inside a broken, government regulated healthcare system – is $194 a day. On the other hand, the average cost of 2-4 week Princess Cruise – which competes for your dollars against all the other cruise lines – is $155 a day, almost $40 cheaper. If we had the same freedom to innovate and the same freedom to be effective, we would absolutely have a dramatically better system. If the government was out of healthcare as payer and regulator, the costs would be affordable by all but the extremely poor. charity would take care of them.  (Aug 8, 2007 | post #84)

Perdue Unveils Health Care Plan

doctor, there is no such thing as "free" healthcare services. there is charity care administered by some, but even that has costs absorbed by the individuals providing it...  (Aug 8, 2007 | post #4)

reggie, a doctor does not get any money for prescribing a certain drug. no where, no way. they may be influenced by the same advertising you see on tv for prescrbing a certain drug. there are strict laws to prohibit doctors from getting "payoffs " stop the lies  (Aug 8, 2007 | post #44)

doctors don't get payoffs form insurance companies to change their patients to generic drugs. you have a lot of learning to do. please don't vote for anybody advocating socialized medicine until you do some studying!  (Aug 8, 2007 | post #40)

i'm glad you stepped up and helped your father with his bills. i wish more people took care of their parents. now that there has been a hugh medicare expansion, i bet his meds are paid for aren't they? so produce one like i asked. yes, because the government has spent the money that has been put in for the baby boomers that are about to enter the entitlement program, it's obvious that the spending must decrease immediately for those that have the means. (the majority) it's not a safety issue, it's a convience issue. nursing home is not safer than home with a privately paid sitter. it's worse. politicians do fly on taxpayer money for official business. most of the trips are paid for by themselves or their campaigns. if you look at budget expenditures on travel, there is no comparison to money spent on travel vs entitlements. my child has catastrophic coverage because i have bought an insurance policy. everyone should do so and the cost of the policy will go down!! when the child goes to the doctor, i pay $60 cash to the doctor for the exam/visit.  (Aug 8, 2007 | post #81)

i continue to find it fascinating that people think they or others (the elderly, children, etc) have a RIGHT to healthcare. No one has a right to it. It's a priveledge. And it does cost. And Americans have to start taking responsibility for themselves and less dependence on the government.  (Aug 8, 2007 | post #80)
