Hip Replacement

Hip pain when I cough, sneeze or accidentally jerk my body

Hi Norman, The hammering part is normal. My mother had the surgery not under general anesthesia but with an epidural. She was awake the whole time and as she explained the hammering part was the most terrifying for her also. Basically she felt her body moving while the surgeon hammered in the implant, not pain but just felt her body moving.  (Aug 30, 2012 | post #10)

Hip implant got early warning of problems

The company introduced the ASR hip replacement products under the FDA 501(k) system, meaning they proved it is similar to other already approved products in the market. This way they skipped clinical trials, which might have pointed out the high failure rates in the first place. Their knowledge about the defects doesn't surprise me at all, but certainly it is one unmoral thing to sell it in light of that information. Patients affected by these implants have to right to gain compensation. Legal help and information is available at http://www.defecti  (Jun 18, 2012 | post #5)

Johnson & Johnson Hip Replacement Lawsuits Set for Trial

These lawsuit are only the ones filed in the United States. The Depuy hip replacements were sold worldwide meaning that the number of these lawsuits doesn't reflect all the patients affected by this recall. And even in the United States, there could be more people who yet not experienced problems, but at least they should be aware of the problems associated with them. Patients with these implants should not neglect any symptoms and should turn to their doctors the moment they notice irregularities or problems caused by their implants. http://www.defecti presents the usual problems with these implants and also offers legal help if necessary.  (Jun 18, 2012 | post #3)

FDA to re-examine safety of metal hips

The link to the article doesn't worked for me, but regardless I'm waiting to see some actions taken in regards of metal on metal implants, not just only some chit-chat over a 2 day conference. This is not an issue that appeared yesterday, it has been signaled years ago. If I ever need hip replacement I want to know which implants are safe and which are not and I want to know this before surgery, not to receive a notification letter after two years that your hip implants have been recalled, please send in your leg.  (Jun 15, 2012 | post #2)

As a response to the FDA warnings the AUGS has issued a report detailing their view and recommendations to the increasing number of complaints. The organization opposes an an-block recall of the mesh products but it does support the reclassification of the mesh products and the need for more clinical trials an research. http://www.transva ginalmeshlawsuits. com/bladder-sling/  (Mar 15, 2012 | post #3110)
