Congresswoman Griffins

I dropped by here to see what was being said about the assassination attempt on Saturday. I wasn't surprised to find there were no comments at all. This area of North Carolina is infested with right wingers and you are probably feeling pretty guilty right now. Hding your head in the sand or using denial?  (Jan 10, 2011 | post #1)

Well, you have my curiosity up. What rights are not given in a civil union that are given in a marriage?  (Mar 14, 2009 | post #152)

Rachel, to a Christian, a civil union is not the same thing as marriage. If you can understand that fact, maybe you can better understand where we are coming from on this. I have no problem at all with gays having a civil union. That is simply a legal contract to give them the same legal rights as a married couple. I just cannot agree to a marriage ceremony that mocks the age old traditions and beliefs of not only Christians but other religions as well.  (Mar 13, 2009 | post #139)

I think it is like saying that we should let the nudists go around naked everywhere. After all, it doesn't affect anyone but them if they don't have clothes on. Truth is, what people do, does have an effect on other people and on society. To say it is none of our business or that we don't have a right to an opinion is just wrong. The kind of society I want to live in and I want to bequeathe to my children and grandchildren is definitely my business. Now that I've said that, I will tell you that I do not have a bad problem with someone being a homosexual. I do have a bad problem with them using a sacrament of the Church to legitamize a relationship that is clearly not condoned by God. If you are an atheist and you don't agree with that, then tough. I live here too. My opinion counts, too.  (Mar 12, 2009 | post #107)

chavez calls on obama to follow path of socialism

Are you saying that the only way conservatives will help poor people is at the end of a rifle? So when liberals help poor people, should they help only registered democrats? After all, if that poor Republican becomes rich one day, he sure won't return the favor. I hear all this "I will give to charities in my own way" stuff all the time. But the responsibility for our fellow man descends on us all. America is better than that. We take care of our own. Even if it means telling a no good selfish self centered guy that he has to help, too. The churches and decent do-gooders can't do it all. If you do not like how the money is allocated, why not try to get some changes made in welfare rules? Sure there are some people who are using the system. But do we deny help to all the rest because of the criminals who are using the system? No, we improve the system. I really get tired of hearing conservatives say they are hard working and the ones being helped are lazy, good for nothing dregs of society. That is a generalization that just doesn't stick. You know better. Everybody in this forum knows better. No one, and I mean no one, knows when they are going to be in a situation where they need government aid. You can be pretty smug when you have a job and your bills are being paid. But I wonder how fast your opinions would change if you had to walk a mile in some of these people's shoes?  (Mar 12, 2009 | post #658)

I happen to be one of those "masses of Americans" you are referring to who has always paid his own way. But I do not have a problem with giving a hand up to the people who didn't have the advantages in life that I did. I was blessed with a loving home, parents who encouraged education, above normal intelligence, good health, and no disasters in my life. Every one can't say the same thing. Why should I feel above the man who works for minimum wage because it is the best that he can do? And if his job is eliminated, why shouldn't I be willing to help him out until he can find another job? The Good Book says "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you". Well, there but for the grace of God go I..  (Mar 11, 2009 | post #626)

I suppose the courts will decide what can be done about the privacy of our identities. But I believe an important point is brought to mind here. What you say about another person can hurt. If your aim is to cause intentional harm by saying nasty things about someone, perhaps you should check your facts first. I post here and on various other sites and I have seen some sickening threads. Gossip is still gossip. Libel is still libel. Slander is still slander. Should we call it something else because it happens on the internet? Does it hurt any less because it happens there?  (Mar 10, 2009 | post #4488)

chavez calls on obama to follow path of socialism

A quote from the National Journal interviewing Republican Congressman Patrick McHenry of North Carolina. "We will lose on legislation. But we will win the message war every day, and every week, until November 2010. Our goal is to bring down approval numbers for Pelosi and for House Democrats." Now that is a statement that clearly shows that Republicans could care less about the economy. They only care about winning the next election. That's why they won't try to work on any compromises with the Dems with the economy. They want to convince the American people that Dems are Socialists and Commies so they can sweep back into power in 2010. Well this is one American who is not buying their propaganda. I have been listening to the same Republican hogwash for 45 years and I am sick of it. You younger folks don't remember all the other times the Republicans have tried to scare people with the same message. Well I remember well and I wouldn't give you a dime for every Republican in Washington. The only thing they are really good at is lying and stealing tax payers money. Go ahead and put them back in! See how long it takes for the middle class of this country to disappear. To think this country could end up in the hands of a bunch of hate-filled propagandists! I love my country. I am not a socialist or a communist. I am an American.  (Mar 10, 2009 | post #583)
