Hudson resumes classes; busing problems expected to continue

Just my Opinion - You don't get it. It isn't about hiring bus drivers. Hudson, like many school districts, contracts out the whole student transportation job. They do not hire drivers, buy buses, provide training or insurance or provide maintenance or storage. Many school systems have realized that transportation, like food service, is not a 'core business of education' and that monies can be better spent on contracting for these services from specialist companies rather than doing it themselves. Do they do a better or worse job? I guess that depends, but this is the wave of the future.  (Sep 4, 2008 | post #9)

Woman accused of stealing from grandmother again

Reality check time for this whole family: THE DRUG IS PRIORITY ONE. YOU CANNOT TRUST AN ADDICT. Why do they continue to let the granddaughter prey upon her grandmother? The law and the courts can only offer a remedy after the fact. Prevention - and not letting her back in the door - is the responsibility of the family.  (Sep 4, 2008 | post #10)

U.S. sends third ship to Georgia, plans $1 billion in aid

Georgia shot first. President Saakashvili was confident that the USA would respond with aid because he is our ally. He was right. We are being played like a chess piece in his game of chicken with the Russians. We blow Iraq's infrastructure and economy away with 'shock and awe' and then use our money to rebuild them while Iraq sits on their oil profits. The Russians respond to Georgia's first blow and damage their economy and infrastructure. We will use our money to rebuild them because they like us. Meanwhile our own bridges and roadways crumble and our economy stagnates because we are busy putting our money elsewhere. Does this sound like we are 'winning'?  (Sep 3, 2008 | post #9)

Hudson schools closed due to busing problems

Which action do you think gives Hudson MORE leverage with First Student? 1) Muddle through and expect parents to pick up the slack 2) Cancel classes and publically embarass their contractor I'm thinking Option #2 will light a much BIGGER fire under First Student to get this problem solved not!  (Sep 3, 2008 | post #17)

Hudson schools closed due to busing problems

The contract transportation company, First Student, is the largest provider of school bus services in the country, so it is not like the Hudson School Board went with some bottom-feeder mom-and-pop shop to save some coin. First Student should be very worried. If you are going to fail to provide contractual services to a community, it is more than unwise to stiff the one with a high concentration of high-powered attorneys.  (Sep 3, 2008 | post #12)

Police say Buchtel teacher has arsenal in house

Other news sources have reported that more than 20 guns, grenade launchers and a semi-automatic equipped with a silencer were taken from the basement. They also found a bag of marijuana and stockpiles of food and water. IF these reports are true - and who knows yet if they are - it brings up some other questions. Was he preparing for something?  (Sep 3, 2008 | post #67)

Police say Buchtel teacher had 'arsenal of weapons'

Note that he was charged with "having weapons under disability" which begs the question of what a background check would reveal. nice - Do not confuse an ISP address with a physical location of a poster. Mine will come up as St. Louis MO but I am in Montrose. Charles may be in Atlanta or he may be in Kenmore. You can't tell.  (Sep 2, 2008 | post #18)

UPDATE: Police say Buchtel teacher had 'arsenal of weapons'

Steph - Well, if you don't care, maybe YOU would like to live next door to him and his arsenal and his explosives and his bomb-making supplies with him standing on his front porch, drunk, and waving a gun around. Most thinking individuals would choose not to have neighbors like this, let alone teachers at the most troubled high school in the APS system.  (Sep 2, 2008 | post #5)

Obama born in Kenya?

Spirit of Reagan - His dad abandoned the family and I believe that you are speaking of his half-brother. Chances are good that he was not able to influence either one of them, seeing as how he was a little kid. Perhaps YOU have more control over what your parents and siblings do, where they live or what they stand for. Most of us can only hope to be personally responsible for ourselves.  (Aug 29, 2008 | post #5)
