Easter Extremes On The Calendar

Hurrah! I'm glad someone else brought up the Pagan Fertility Festival aspect of it. I just can't convince people that rabbits and colored eggs have nothing to do with the Resurrection. Instead, it was part of the assimilation of the Pagan religion into Christianity in order to get the Pagans to practice Christianity without as much resistance as was historically encountered. That's how so many "odd" aspects of "Christian " holidays exist. It's all a joke, really. I only celebrate them for fun. I don't try to put religious meaning behind them because that would be blasphemous. Anyways.. Interesting facts about the dates.  (Mar 21, 2008 | post #6)

Weather Blog - Developments to the West...

The winter weather really needs to stop. We lost most orchard crops last year. We don't need a repeat this year. Our hyacinths have already bloomed, and all of the daffodils and tulips have grown their leaves. The bushes have buds all over them. These freak winter-spring-wint er patterns are causing havoc.  (Mar 7, 2008 | post #3)

Weather Blog - Latest on the Lake Levels

I don't mind if we keep getting these "gully-washer " storms every week. The severe amount of water they dump really helps. All the ponds in my area (Carrollton) are full. Even Lake Carroll is topped off. Lanier could definitely use some intense rains over it. We are having some erosion issues, but that can be resolved MUCH easier than filling up a lake.  (Mar 7, 2008 | post #1)

Microsoft Releases IE8 Beta

I used to use Firefox, but I switched to Opera 9 after I saw benchmarks that it adheres to more standards and renders pages faster. So far, that has been the truth. However, since Internet Explorer comes standard with Windows, most people kept testing sites against it instead of the standards. So, they look like crap in Opera. Even some AOL sites tell me I need to "upgrade ". I hate narrow-minded developers who think Internet Explorer is the only browser out there and that the others are just fringe geek tools.  (Mar 7, 2008 | post #2)

Dude, What? - SUV Crashes Into Library

Good Lord! That was one thing that they taught us about in Driver's Ed in Virginia: Control, and not panic (with accidental acceleration), in unexpected situations. I think a comprehensive Driver's Ed program should be mandatory in all states. It would cut back on the number of stupid accidents like this one.  (Jan 7, 2008 | post #1)

Boy, 12, Charged in Baby Death

I agree. I also believe that he probably wasn't raised correctly. I have anger issues, but I have never gotten into a fight and especially haven't tried to kill someone. This kid sounds like he has been raised to think he's above authority. They should really look into that "family" .  (Jan 7, 2008 | post #3)

Airline Calendar Called Sexist

A women's group complaining about women posing voluntarily in a calendar. Geez. They volunteered! Chill out, WI! Not only does it raise money for the charity, but I bet it will raise a lot of business for the airline from people wanting to get a live peek at the hotties.  (Dec 13, 2007 | post #8)

Bush Pardons 5 Georgia Convicts

They are obviously political gifts. All of the presidents do it. I agree with Shumaker, though. People who commit non-violent crimes are clogging the system with larger sentences than a lot of violent ones. I've seen larger sentences for people who commit theft than those who commit manslaughter. The system is messed up.  (Dec 12, 2007 | post #4)

Weather Blog - Rain, Storms, Snow?

If only it would snow with accumulation. We haven't had a white Christmas, or even a white winter, in a long time. Each time we do have accumulation, it's always because of a freak blizzard in spring. The most recent winter event we had was the ice storm a few years back. *sigh*  (Dec 12, 2007 | post #2)

Teddy Bear Teacher Home From Sudan

Regardless of what the "full" story is, I highly doubt the bear was "part of a Western plot to undermine Islam". I respect the Muslims and have nothing against the true Islam religion (not the extremist version). I even have a co-worker friend who is Muslim. We even discussed this particular issue. Kids naming a bear Muhammad does not "undermine Islam" in any way. Nor do I think that it was some covert plot that all inanimate objects will start being named in that manner. Muhammad is such a common name that she probably didn't think about it being associated with the prophet. It's lunacy to associate everything as being an attack on Islam. They need to just chill out. Their actions are what undermines Islam. Who can respect a group of people who run around rallying for the heads (literally) of anyone who makes a slight cultural mistake? If they want respect, they need to give respect.  (Dec 4, 2007 | post #2)

Charities Wary of Toys After Recalls

I don't understand what would make people just dump recalled items. They can be returned for credit. That's why it's a recall. Dumping it off on a charity has two negative effects: 1) The buyer just lost out on getting money back 2) The charity now has to deal with something it can't sell Just keep your receipts and return it to the store if a recall pops up!  (Dec 4, 2007 | post #1)

Church Group Finds Pot in Pizza

I think the replies are funny, too. Kent: It is funny. Honestly. It's just marijuana. They didn't spike it with cocaine or other really harmful or nasty substance. I don't use illegal drugs, but I do know that no one has OD'ed/died from smoking (or eating) pot. The most that will happen is they'd get nauseous (like I do - hence the non-use). "Several of the youth who ate the pizza were taken to the hospital to be checked out. None were found to have ill effects of eating the pizza." That's a little excessive for just pot. They must've been paranoid of something more damaging being in there with it.  (Dec 4, 2007 | post #10)

Life - Imus Returns to Radio Monday

What he said may have been "offensive ", but it was not illegal, nor was it the more offensive "n-word" that others use without repercussion. He "served his time", so it's only fair that he go back to work. I've never heard his show, and frankly his portrait weirds me out, but geez... It's old news now. Time to move on to more pressing matters.  (Dec 1, 2007 | post #14)
