PARIS (AFP) – The death toll from winter storms across Europe rose to at least 80 on Monday as transport chaos spread amid mounting anger over the three-day failure of Eurostar high-speed trains. With tens of thousands stranded by the cancellation of London-to-Paris trains and hundreds of flights across the continent, new accidents and mass power cuts added to the big freeze tumult. A car veered off an icy road and knocked concrete onto rails, derailing a Paris commuter train and injuring 36 people, police said. Three hundred people had to be evacuated from the train. Another train in the Croatian capital Zagreb hit a buffer injuring 52 people. Croatian investigators blamed the minus 17 degrees Celsius (1.4 Fahrenheit) temperatures for a brake failure, national television reported. European temperatures as low as minus 33.6 degrees Celsius (minus 28.5 Fahrenheit) have been recorded in Bavaria. In Poland, authorities said 42 people, many of them homeless, had died of cold over three days after temperatures plunged to minus 20 degrees Celsius (minus four Fahrenheit). EXTORTION BY THE WHITE HOUSE-Is this possible? Offutt Air Force Base, situated in Senator Ben Nelson's state of Nebraska is the home of the U.S. Strategic Command. It is situated where it is because it is surrounded by the rest of the country. This is where Pres. Bush spent the hours immediately following the attacks of 9/11/01. The base is extremely important to the national security of the United States. The White House has threatened Senator Nelson with placing the base on the "Brack List" (scheduled for closure) if he does not vote in favor of the Senate Health Care Reform Bill. A threat of this type tells me that this administration has no regard for the security of this country and since the base is also a huge employer in Nebraska it tells me that they have no regard for the thousands of people who would become unemployed if the base closes. Yesterday it was the liberals (I refuse to capitalize liberal any longer) going after Senator Joe Lieberman's wife because his vote was in doubt. Kwanzaa? Absolutely not.To their credit the school goes all out celebrating the birth of Christ and Christmas is abound throughout the district. Unlike most districts run by eunuchs afraid for their own professional hides if they offend some asshole. This school district should've been the first one taken over by the state.For two decades it has been the cash register for two local churches.Most employees are church associated and when a new Board of Ed takes over positions are eliminated/created according to church favors.Period. They've had board presidents and former school superintendents in the tire business together.Board members related to interim administrators,unlicensed teachers in classes who are church members,a former superintendent(local reverend) went from aide to teacher to grounds supervisor to bus manager to interim superintendent just to keep him on payroll.And so it goes ad infinitum in Wyandanch. Swiss Ban New Mosques...Maybe We Should Take Note
GENEVA – Swiss voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional ban on minarets on Sunday, barring construction of the iconic mosque towers in a surprise vote that put Switzerland at the forefront of a European backlash against a growing Muslim population. The referendum by the nationalist Swiss People's Party labeled minarets as symbols of rising Muslim political power that could one day transform Switzerland into an Islamic nation. The initiative was approved 57.5 to 42.5 percent by some 2.67 million voters.
