Fielder apologizes, homers as Brewers win 8-1
Teaches them how to play in the NHL. (Yesterday | post #2)
The owner was me and I gave him shelter, phone, food, hot coffee, all while another non-employee assisted me in trying to run my counter at the same time. This went on for about two hours. We did not give up on the man, and helped out as best we could until the one church made it into town to pick him up. They were great, giving him food and an overnight or two at a local motel or whatever they had set up. They were the real heroes, the church from out of town. A church in Montrose, if memory serves. I'm sure if we would kept calling down the list, we would've found somebody local, but it was disheartening to have to go on as long as we did before we got the out of town response. How many years ago was this? I ask because I owned a business far off the interstate but well within Effingham, and to make long story short, a black gentleman walked in, cold and thirsty and having been shagged out of every place he tried to warm himself at along the way. It was Easter time, and we phoned dozens of Effingham churches for help. When I talked to them, they were willing to help, but when this fellow got on the line, it was no room at the inn. Finally, a church from way over in Montrose sent people to pick him up. Somehow, this doesn't sound like the same place you describe, which is why I ask for the time period where blacks were welcomed with open arms. There sure wasn't any "father figures" around when this stranger came through looking for so little. (Thursday Jul 31 | post #6)
Not everyone. There are unsuspecting outsiders. But you should know better than to exit once you see that big cross stabbing into the clouds. It ain't no stairway to heaven, brother. They light it up on Wednesdays and Sundays, I hear. Just kiddin, although the town can be rough on folks of color. (Thursday Jul 31 | post #4)

Fatal Accident in Effingham on Interstate

It seems Canada is keeping pace with the filthier elements of police work so often found Stateside. Down south of y'all, especially here in Illinois, the triple standard is commonly referred to as the "Good Ole Boy System." There are many other names that cannot be printed here. Imagine where this is leading? What happens when society is fed up with cop-crud? The authoritative misconduct that is becoming more rampant in Canada has been in place here since, well, the beginning. Strikingly similar to how the Nazi SS treated people not that long ago. Fatal Accident in Effingham on Interstate
The story is now posted on Topix Effingham. The local newspaper is the only game in town, so does not staff for breaking news very well. There it is, however, for what's it worth. (Monday Jul 28 | post #34)
Fatal Accident in Effingham on Interstate
Posted a story in Topix Effingham News re: highway crash involving Effingham, IL residents, but this story sounds like it was in Missouri and makes no mention of tractors. (Monday Jul 28 | post #26)
Wasn't talking about myself, so maybe I chose different words, but on that note, I went to a local car lot in need of a business vehicle, at the time, about $25-grand. The dealership called over to see about a loan from my bank, one which I'd used for several years with several accounts and had about $300-grand in at the time. Turned down--flat. It was nearby, so I simply walked over, extracted the 25, and paid cash, not having gotten the loan. There were reasons for taking a loan which obviously was for not. Next day, a whole lot more money exited that bank. Some of us are local, yes, but I'd consider myself an outsider. Small-town folk know what I'm talking about. Hang around long enough, and you might, too. (Thursday Jul 24 | post #3)
Horry County officer gets probation for misconduct charge, burg...
What kind of time would an Americn Citizen guilty of these crimes get if they weren't a police officer? Once more, American Youth are taught by our "system" that if want to grow up to have a job with potential for high gain and little risk for loss, get a badge. (Thursday Jul 24 | post #1)
4thebirds...: Hall hits tenth inning homer to ruin Cards' comeback
Can't argue with those numbers, but regardless of the biz end, the writing sure is on the wall. Look for Mozeliak to make a move soon with the deadline at hand. My current choice: lefty closer, Brian Fuentes, before the Phils get him. (Tuesday Jul 22 | post #2)
If I wasn't from the area, I would be inclined to believe this flowery speech, but I've seen first-hand, denials of "locals" when it came to obtain a loan from a local bank that had been using local money to make money for years. So who got the loans? Well, I'll have to admit, "local" folks, only, the ones with those well-known last names. Small town Americans know what I'm talking about. Good luck with the book and the tour. Us small-town folk would buy a copy, but can't get a "local" loan. (Tuesday Jul 22 | post #1)
Protections in legal system not 'charter for criminals'
The Innocence Project has done a great job of educating the American Citizens about how to effect change within our terribly broken justice system, noting that it is the misconduct, in many wrongrful convictions, of the people who are entrusted to run the justice system that are a big part of the problem. You got that right, brother. (Thursday Jul 17 | post #1)
