New York Asian Population Growing

From what I see and hear from the new Chinese communities, they're not interested in assimilating at all. They eat only Chinese food, listen to Chinese music, watch Chinese movies... They have no interested in exploring other cultures other than their own. That is a characteristic of living in an insular community. I'm a Chinese who moved to Brooklyn in 1988 from Chinatown. There weren't many Asians that time so I was forced to assimilate. When you're a Chinese living in a community where there is no trace of American culture, it's almost impossible to assimilate, unless you hang around Americanized communities. There are some immigrants who lived in this country for more than 10 years and they have no interest in picking up the English language. You ask them why? They say why should I? Everything I need is in my language.  (Aug 24, 2013 | post #7)

Steven Johnson Syndrome

This is a serious disease! My dermatologist insisted that I continue taking the antibiotic Doxycycline Hyclate even though it caused me Stevens Johnson Syndrome. He doesn't think these symptoms are associate with the antibiotics. I took them for only 2 days and it caused the edge of my ears to blister, ooze, and slough off. Really painful! It also caused my eyes to be infected. My eyes are very red, swollen, oozing with yellow mucous. My derm thinks it's an allergic reaction to a new hair product, but I'm not using any. I'm off the antibiotics for two days and I'm not seeing much improvement. I know mine is a mild case of SJS. People have gone blind from it, some have died. Doctors mean well but they aren't always right. Trust your gut feeling.  (Aug 20, 2013 | post #2)
