Cook to buy Lauth's casino stake

Yeah, Bob Lauth is a class act who deserved a gold polished halo, right? No, Jerry Denbo is a great guy. Not only have I dealt with him almost daily at the Casino, but even before all this, he was more than willing to help out a disabled relative of mine who was getting the run around from Disability and Social Security. Yeah, my check is written by Benchmark, but the money from it isn't coming out of their pocket. Any way it goes, Lauth is gone, Cook's got the place, and Benchmark's contract is 'supposedly' up June 16. And as far as class goes, I don't know who the guy was, he identified himself with a Lauth properties ID, a French Lick ID and tried to throw his weight around when he wasn't allowed to exit the building with an alcoholic beverage. That's a state law, but apparently we're all just a bunch of redneck inbreds who don't know who our "betters " are. (And yes, I witnessed a good majority of this transpire before I got disgusted and left.)  (Jun 7, 2007 | post #27)

Work one day in my shoes before you go singing the praises of Lauth. Oh and yes, I'm your typical French Lick idiot, I don't know what money is and who's getting paid for what and who's lining who's pockets. {I hope you sense the sarcasm here} And you're wrong, I don't work for Benchmark, Benchmark was the company that was hired to MANAGE the hotel/casino by LAUTH... Cook opposed the move to bring Benchmark in. Lauth was the one who cut all the job, the hours and the benefits, Cook was the one fighting for it. Call it part of our "ignorance " if you will, but when Lauth's CEO comes in the Casino and throws a shit fit and makes an ass of himself telling all us "po-dunk rednecks" how he can buy and sell our asses, and Mr. Cook and his people come in and show us the utmost respect, see who you'd be wanting to get the place.  (Jun 7, 2007 | post #23)

Cook to buy Lauth's casino stake

No, we are far from "crowded " down here now. We are all celebrating Cook buying Lauth out, it was like New Years Eve at the Casino when the employees learned of press release. We're glad they're gone! Maybe now instead of Lauth's pockets getting lined, the community will actually start seeing some of what it was promised.  (Jun 7, 2007 | post #18)

The Indianapolis Star

A wonder renewed

I have to agree with everyone else who works at the Resort/Casino who's spoken up. You don't get 5 star resort employees when you pay them 10.00 an hour, then cut their hours from 40 down to 32 hours a week. We were all given a lot of promises, and we spend a good majority of our day apologizing to guests who find their experience less than what they wanted. And thanking the guests who tell us what a great time they've had and how beautiful the place is. However, I personally am more than a little tired of guests taking their aggression out on me. I don't make the prices, I don't set the rates, but yet I'm the one who gets to deal with rude nasty people on a daily basis because the slot machines aren't ATM machines. West Baden is beautiful, no way around it. And for all you nay sayers who keep saying it won't work, try to remember when these hotels were originally built. The French Lick hotel has been WORKING for longer than most of us have been alive. Make a trip to West Baden if you get the chance, it's a once in and lifetime opportunity.  (May 29, 2007 | post #38)

Hotel ready for 1st guests since 1932

Not all of us have moustaches and 40 inch waistlines, sweetheart. All you naysayer can just keep it up, you don't see what I see on a daily basis. Buses, Buses and more Buses coming from everywhere. I just love the stereotyping people who live in this area are getting. Psst, most of us MOVED HERE to work here, Chicago, Louisville, Indy... 98% of my coworkers are from LARGE CITIES. And we're the backwards ones. Thanks Mr. Cook, you've done a great thing in Orange County and we all appreciate it.  (May 20, 2007 | post #33)
