Holder: US is nation of cowards on racial matters

In my apartment complex, I have 2 men that I would consider to be my "best friends".. Bernard and Max... Max is white, Bernard is black. The three of us are often called "The three stooges" by my girlfriend and Bernard's girlfriend. Bernard is involved in an interracial relationship with a white woman, with a bi-racial son (Not his). Last night, after reading about the AG's speech, I went outside and found Bernard... We had a little bit of small talk, and then I asked him.... So, lets discuss race! And he began to talk to me about the Daytona 500 being messed up... And when I told him.... Nooo not that, and I told him about the AG's speech, he rolled his eyes, and said "Whatever " TRUE STORY!  (Feb 19, 2009 | post #1054)

Dear Fran... Both of my comments that you fired on me upon, were related to other comments that people have posted in here... And the election facts... Proved my point... Thanks, and have a nice day!  (Jan 15, 2009 | post #148)

And well... Maybe you better not Google anything... Since we have learned this week, that 2 Google searches is causing as much Global Warming as boiling a tea kettle on the stove for a cup of tea... And that is according to a Harvard Physicist.  (Jan 15, 2009 | post #117)

Ok, as a former active duty Marine... Desert Storm vet... While I do not agree that these parents should have given their children such inflammatory names.. Here in America, we do have the right to be stupid or ignorant. Now the article does read that the children were not taken away because of their names, but it has been my experience that when social services takes children away, the police are usually notified.. (In case of any resistance from the parents) And the state rarely takes children from parents unless there has been a crime committed, and if that was the case, the police would have been notified. Getting back to the rights.... In America, we (and no it isn't granted in the Constitution) have what seems to be a basic right to be stupid... No one can take that away from us... We have learned that from the recent polls after the elections... Now I am not claiming that ALL people who voted were stupid or ignorant, but some were. People were asked who was in control in Congress, and most of the people asked said... Republicans... Now, in 2008, before the elections the House had 233 Democrats... And 202 Republicans... A 31 vote majority... The Senate had 51 Democrats and 49 Republicans... A 1 vote majority... And After the 2008 elections... The House had 257 Democrats, compared to 178 Republicans... For a majority now of 79 votes. While the Senate after the elections now stands at 58 Democrats to 41 Republicans... (Minnesota is still not represented in this total yet) with the Democratic majority now being a 17 votes. So, in both houses of Congress, the Democrats were ahead... Before and continue to be so after. And also, I am quite certain that by now most people have either heard or heard of the Howard Stern "Interviews in Harlem!" If not, Google it... It makes for a fascinating study. Point being... We in America, have an implied right to be complete idiots... But some people tend to abuse that right...  (Jan 15, 2009 | post #111)

Advocates of blind fault TV skit about NY Governor

Even the old TV show M.A.S.H. had Alan Alda's character "Hawkeye " as a time when he went blind. And even after he regained his sight, he attempted to fool the nurses into thinking he had re-lost his sight. And I also remember one episode that had the great, Tom Sullivan (who is blind by the way) who was portraying a blinded soldier. Who had cracked some jokes about his blindness. And speaking of Tom Sullivan, he has been on numerous sitcoms as a blind man, who has had been part of many funny situations.  (Dec 22, 2008 | post #31)

The big melt: 2 trillion tons of ice since 2003

I seem to recall, back in the 70's while I was in grade school, being told that we are just finishing up on the last ice age. That was before "Global Warming" became a psuedo-religion. Now I ask you, what happens when an ice age ends? Ice melts??? The earth gets warmer???? Several years ago, NASA announced that the polar ice caps were melting. But not on earth... But on Mars!!!!!!!! Are we that conceited that we believe that we are responsible for that as well?? Scientific evidence has shown that the earth has undergone MANY warming and cooling periods. For much longer than humans have been even present, according to much of the same scientists. Now, about a month ago, British scientists announced that their evidence is showing that global cooling is underway. Last Winter (2007)... China had the coldest winter in 100 years... Baghdad had the first snow in RECORDED HISTORY.... North America has the most snowcover in 50 years, with places like Wisconsin the highest since record-keeping began. Record levels of Antarctic sea ice, record cold in Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Australia, Iran, Greece, South Africa, Greenland, Argentina, Chile -- the list goes on and on. Basically, to make a long story short... The earth is not going to follow our preconceived ideas on how it should behave. Between the years 1900-1940, the earth warmed up considerably. But there were not near as many vehicles on the road, in the skies, or on the seas as there are today. And now... according to our scientists, there are 2 times as much CO2 levels in the atmosphere as there was at that time, and the earth appears to be cooling. Oh, and I also find it totally ludricrous that now, the same people that pray at the altar of the environment and say that global warming is happening, also say that (and get this) the current round of global cooling is being caused by global warming. WTF!!!!!!!  (Dec 19, 2008 | post #259)

Advocates of blind fault TV skit about NY Governor

When??? Oh like many years ago... I mean, the Wayans', South Park, The Simpsons, just to name a few have used EVERYONE.... I repeat... EVERYONE as fodder for their jokes. In this case, the only real difference is this man is not only blind, and African American, but also a democrat. There have been a few blind comedians who have used their disability in their acts, to hilarious results. In quite a few television series that has ever been, there has been a stint on the main character becoming blind for some reason or not, and if the show was a sitcom, it was to hilarious results. I'm quite certain you laughed your butt off when SNL poked fun at Palin, McCain, and quite a few other politicians, that is if you even watched it. But in this case, the butt of the jokes was someone who you like.... So now it is not funny. Such narrow-mindedness!  (Dec 16, 2008 | post #21)

Kinda ironic... SNL portrays certain other politicians as "unprepared for the job" and everyone is laughing and happy... But, if they take a page out of the Wayans brothers playbook, and begin to make fun of everyone.... And there is a massive uproar... Just seems to me that the old cliche should be true... Black bikers get Southern bum's rush

I live here in the Myrtle Beach area, and I have seen pros and cons to all of the motorcycle rallies. Both the Harley weeks, and the Atlantic Beach Bike Fest. I do not want to see ANY of them leave. Although with both parties, I see some people who need to either grow up, or act like they have. I for one used to work within the service industry here in Myrtle Beach. I used to drive a taxi. I have had one time during the BBW (Black Bike Week as some refer to it as) a group of 5 gentlemen..(all Black) I picked up at a restaurant... And I carried them only for a short trip...(Meter and extras only came to $9.00), but each of the men gave me a 5 dollar bill. Not too shabby $25.00 for a $9.00 cab ride. But on the same token I had a group of 3 African Americans who promptly ran upon exiting my cab to avoid paying a $20.00 cab ride. By way of comparison, I have had some Harley Riders who broke down in Murrells Inlet at one time, who needed a ride to Calabash NC. I gave them the ride, and then had to return to the bar in Murrells Inlet, and get their car keys that they had left behind and had to take them keys all the way back to Calabash. And was tipped generously then as well. But I have also had the Harley riders attempt to get hostile with me after having too much to drink, and attempt to cause some issues, because they were offered a ride away by the police. "One way or the other" "either you get into this cab, or you get into my car!" There are pros and cons to this issue as I have said, but I for one, do not wish to see the bikers gone.  (Dec 2, 2008 | post #4)

And now the Dems in Congress want the taxpayers of America to bail out the Auto companies... (Or in reality, the labor unions) And unfortunately though, there are many side businesses that will be affected if the "Big Three" fall, and we cannot have that. We should let the auto companies file chapter 11 and restructure the contracts, instead of you and I paying the bill for a retiree's Viagra/Cialis or whatever. I care for my fellow man, I am a blood donor (B negative is my type), and I am on the Marrow Registry. And when I croak, I am also an organ donor. Hawaii attempted to make Universal Health Care available for free for all children. That program lasted less than a year because of people who could afford their own health care were taking their children off their own insurance so they could get it for free. That is what happened to your America. No one believes in hard work anymore. And as I have previously stated in an earlier post, America has become a nation of Oliver's... And if something is made available as Hawaii attempted... (And I believe that in essence it was a good idea to help the needy) But too many people now-a-days want something for nothing, and if something is worth having, then it is worth working for.  (Nov 18, 2008 | post #90)

To answer your questions, First... 400 a week (although I bring home more than that) is quite doable as long as you live within your means. I have no credit cards, therefore no credit card debt. Second, I did not use the VA to buy my home(I used money I had on hand) and even if I did, that is not giving me a handout due to circumstances that are beyond my control, that is a benefit that is available to anyone who honorably serves in the Armed Forces. And I am not against that. Volunteering to put your life on the line in defense of out great nation is something that does deserve to be rewarded. Joining the Teamsters??? Is that a joke? Labor unions had their time, but now, the Labor unions are doing alot more harm than good. If you disagree with me, all you have to do is look at the "Big Three"... All of them are in a "Labor Friendly State" and they are all in financial jeopardy. The reason GM/Ford/Chrysler are all so much more expensive than most of the other cars made in America today are because of the Labor Unions. Take for example General Motors. $1,600 of every GM car you buy goes toward the healthcare costs of union workers. For companies like Toyota that aren't unionized - that cost is only $200 per car. GM also spends another $1,000 per vehicle on holiday pay, work rules, plant-shutdown-pay and line-relief to UAW workers. Those are costs that auto makers such as Toyota don't have to worry about. The average Ford, GM or Chrysler union worker makes about $71.00 or more per hour if you count in all the benefits that the Unions insist upon. For Toyota, Nissan and the rest ... about $48.00 per hour. Do you detect a small problem here? Should we bail out these people? I find it funny the only auto companies we are hearing about in financial stress are the "Big Three". Consumeraffairs.co m posted this story. April 18, 2006 Lifestyle drugs -- chiefly Viagra -- are costing General Motors $17 million dollars a year and the cost is passed along to car, truck and SUV consumers. The blue pill is covered under GM's labor agreement with United Auto Workers, as well as benefit plans for salaried employees. GM executives estimate health care adds $1,500 to the price of each vehicle but they do not break out how much of the premium is caused by erectile dysfunction expenses. GM provides health care for 1.1 million employees, retirees and dependents and is the world's largest private purchaser of Viagra. GM recently raised the co-pay for erectile dysfunction drugs to $18 under a new agreement with the UAW and the company has also pared benefits for salaried workers. The automaker spends almost $5.6 billion each year on health care. While lifestyle drugs are a small fraction of the total medical bill, every health care expense is added into the price of every new vehicle and is a drag on the struggling goliath's earnings. Given the large number of aging autoworkers in the U.S., the industry's Viagra tab and bill for other erectile dysfunction drugs is certain to continue rising. Neither Ford nor Chrysler will disclose the amount spent on erectile dysfunction drugs. While many government and company health plans have eliminated impotence drugs from coverage plans, GM has more than two retirees for every active worker on its rolls and must negotiate eliminating the drugs from the union health plan with the UAW As I previously stated, Labor Unions had their time, but that time is passed.  (Nov 18, 2008 | post #89)

Yes, I am better off than I was 8 years ago. 8 years ago, I was working as a Correctional Officer for the State of NC. I was working 12 hr shifts from 6pm to 6am with 2 days on 2 days off and every other weekend being either a 3 day on or a 3 day off. I was earning approximately $24,000 a year, and being paid once a month. Now, I manage a courier company, and I have a salary of almost $37,000 a year not including benefits. If you include my benefit package, my salary raises to approximately $45,000 a year. I have every weekend off. I earn 16 days of PTO a year for right now, and I am only on the 2nd calendar year of employment with this company. I have 4 independant contractor drivers who work for me, and we handle over $100,000 worth of product every day. Now, before anyone goes there... I do not attribute my success to any government program, but to my own hard work and determination. I have busted my tail to get to where I currently am in life. I have achieved more in my life than my parents have ever done. And that to me is the epitome of the American Dream. I've had no special breaks in life. I did not attend college. I enlisted in the Marines immediately after high school. I have not attended any trade school, and did nothing with my G.I. bill. I could qualify for certain government benefits if I chose to, simply due to my Native American heritage, but I do not believe that I am owed ANYTHING by the government simply because of my ancestry. I want no hand-outs... I do not even claim my ancestry on an job application. Mainly because I do not want to get the job due to "affirmative action". I want people to hire me because of me, and not because of my genetics. I have never in my life EVER filed for and/or accepted unemployment insurance, because I have never been "above" taking any job I could. I have gone once from managing a warehouse in a retail store, to changing tires in a auto shop. And that occured because the store I worked for at the time had a new manager take over, who decided to put her own people in positions of command. There are jobs everywhere, if someone just looks. In President John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Address, he provided what is quite possibly one of his most famous quotes: "My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what can you do for your country." "My fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." "It is now the moment ...to recall what our country has done for each of us, and to ask ourselves what we can do for our country in return." Whatever happened to that America?  (Nov 17, 2008 | post #86)
