If you want sympathy, I can give it to you. I am sorry things are hard for you to understand. I am less sympathetic regarding the false inferences you made, but I expect some of that when talking to people of your persuasion.  (Jan 22, 2013 | post #279197)

You are confusing the needs of the future with the constraints of the past. That is perfectly fine with me. I am perfectly aware of the measures that people you support have taken to rob people of their freedom. The only thing sadder than wanting to harm your fellow citizens in this way, is that you think it is actually possible at this point. I will enjoy that until you stop being funny. I am guessing that will be forever.  (Jan 22, 2013 | post #279107)

Today marks 40 years of government recognizing the intrinsic worth of privacy, and a woman's autonomy. Even though the superstitious among us have done all they could to drag women into their murk, they have failed. The furture of reproductive rights cannot be contained, and the only barrier to it shall be the individual who will decide the when and if they want to have a child. This is progress, and it will never be lost.  (Jan 22, 2013 | post #279090)

Well, considering that the 3/5ths compromise lent power to the slaveholders, and increased their power over the federal government I am going to say no. Free black people in the North were counted as one person, and it was not the slavers who did not want the slaves counted as the same. It served them well to be able to claim the proportion that included people they considered their property. You really don't understand the most basic thing about what you are arguing. The fact that you are siding with slavers, AND talking about dignity and respect is baffling. The farce is expanded when you accuse others of racism.  (Nov 26, 2012 | post #266312)

Your failure to understand is back around to being funny. I hope that you understand this argument enough one day to be properly embarrassed by your words.  (Nov 26, 2012 | post #266280)

If I should encounter any who were not familiar with the history, I would be glad to. I am sure they would be quicker on the uptake.  (Nov 25, 2012 | post #266255)

No, they were considered slaves. You are arguing this wrongly. The racist Southern view was that slaves should be counted as a full person to increase the political power of a slave owning class/region. It had noting to do with the personhood of the slaves, whose humanity was not even being considered by the players in this political maneuver. In no context that I consider important were black people considered 3/5ths of a person.  (Nov 25, 2012 | post #266247)

A broken clock can be wrong all day long, and it can claim to be accurate. I won't waste time arguing about simple historical fact.  (Nov 25, 2012 | post #266188)

No, they weren't. The compromise was more about political power than anything to do with the intrinsic humanity of black peoples. You are arguing a simplistic misunderstanding.  (Nov 25, 2012 | post #266172)

I continue to believe contraception/abor tifacient/steriliz ation mandate will be overturned. (First Amendment) I disagree for numerous reasons, but don't mind seeing those fighting this losing the cost of pressing a case. • Economy/unemployme nt remains poor. It could be a lot worse. Our numbers have been moving in the right direction, as opposed to Europe which has adopted the austerity measures that Republicans have been screaming for. The low approval rating for Congress, as well as a cursory glance at the record over the last 4 years will guide history about where to place the blame. • ObamaCare is becoming a mess. (job layoffs, hospital closings, etc.) This is a highlty subjective statement. I disagree with your view. •P.S. How's that BenghaziGate thingy workin' out? Israel-Iran issue remains. Egypt returns to dictatorship (Obama is buds w/ Muslim Brotherhood). How's Obama's Arab Spring workin' out? http://www.youtube .com/watch?v=SVwXA 7sHUlE  (Nov 24, 2012 | post #266139)

Well, the next part would be that the non slave holding states did not want them to be counted as people at all. The reason being that this had nothing to do with human worth, and everything to do with proportional government. The slave holders wanted to increase their influence on the Federal government. Basically, none of this has anything to do with what you are implying.  (Nov 24, 2012 | post #266138)

"Do you agree w/ slave owners subjective belief that blacks were 2/3 persons?" This is a fairly tortured misunderstanding of what the Three-Fifths Compromise was all about.  (Nov 23, 2012 | post #266006)
