SMART rail costs rise with line extension

Not an appropriate headline. The current estimate is still almost 100 million below the original estimate. The current increase is over the scaled back plan that was a result of the economy. I expect the numbers will go up but the headline should more closely match the content of the article.  (Feb 27, 2014 | post #6)

your stats are way off. the middle class pays that %70 the wealthiest %1 pay less than %1 of the taxes because the tax laws favor the richist and the poorist of us. the middle get screwed. I get my info directly from an IRS employee not a political handout.  (Oct 30, 2010 | post #1826)

Pension system audit raises concern in San Rafael

the links I sent show that public pensions state wide are %5 of the budget in 2009-2009 while prison spending was %7. The one thing that doesn't cover is the interest which is a real big problem. I do think that public employees should choose between a good pension or high pay. They should not have both. It is suppose to be service.  (Oct 23, 2010 | post #55)

and yet our average is 40th in the nation in both public employees per capita and pay for those employees. That includes local not just state. of the 39 above us only one state is having similar problems. Why? There is likely a similar problem to our schools where the salaries are unusually top heavy. The teachers make jack and thew administrators typically make 5-6 times what the teachers do. I dated a teacher IN SF years ago. she was the most educated person on staff having a phd in chemistry . When she left she made 50k and had won the golden apple. Her principle who was incredibly spineless and refused to fire a teacher who dated students made in excess of 300k. I have a few friends here and there that are teachers of retired teachers and this seems to be the norm.  (Oct 23, 2010 | post #54)

Pension system audit raises concern in San Rafael

considering pensions are only %7 of the total state budget now they will make a very small difference. we spend more on prisoners than we do state pensions. http://www.usgover nmentspending.com/ California_state_s pending.html http://2007-08.arc hives.ebudget.ca.g ov/BudgetSummary/S UM/1249561.html  (Oct 22, 2010 | post #51)

That would create more dependents that not only are under educated and non contributing , they also would not speak the language of the country they want to wreck.  (Oct 21, 2010 | post #1693)

your welcome to come here and pick lettuce for $7 an hour. They come here because employers want them. If they were legal , made to be part of the melting pot like earlier immigrants ( learn english , history , ect... ) it would be a lot cheaper in the long run. It is harder to cross the border now than 10 years ago. that has caused more of them to stay instead of the migrant pattern they once had. On top of all that no governor has much say one way or the other. It is up to the feds , not the states. Not that it should be but it is.  (Oct 21, 2010 | post #1692)

Cutting vocational programs from schools , cutting from schools in general cost the state in the long run. He helped create a larger under educated populace that is more dependent on government money. It is far more expensive per capita than funding schools properly. The pain should have been elsewhere.  (Oct 21, 2010 | post #1686)
