Not so. Though there are many definitions for what constitutes the end of a recession, growth in GDP is one that I often see. In fact, by some definitions, even just a lack of negative growth (with no positive growth) means the end of a recession. In one article that I read, the author stated that the end of the recession is the hardest time, like if you bounce a ball on the ground, the instant that it starts to go up is when it's at its lowest point. This is, I'm sure, why it's so hard, but not impossible, to see that things are improving. The company I work for (manufacturing, and not affected by the holiday) is hiring again, and I've seen "now hiring" signs posted around town for the first time in a long time. Oh come on! Boys have no where near the pressure to be perfect that girls do. For most of the girls with whom I grew up, being skinny was not even about attracting a man; they needed to be skinny for piece of mind. Given your history, I'm sure YOU know what that feels like, but it's not nearly as prevalent among young men. It's not that I want boys to feel bad about themselves so much as I want boys as a group to understand the feeling of not living up to expectations. Maybe when they grow up, and some go into an industry where they have the power to affect the self esteem of children, they will be more sensitive-to both boys' and girls' issues. LOL, that's actually how I plan to talk to my kids about drinking and drugs! Kinda, "Don't do it, but if you do..." It's a work in progress; I've got a while to think about it. I don't think your comparison is valid. Safe sex is a good thing that can be healthy and promote closeness between two people. It's something that everyone is expected to do at some point.
