Plant shutdown to end 400 jobs in Athens

On the contrary, in another feed you said something along the lines of, "There is still time for Cadence to buy us, we can always hope". I understand your frustration with your current situation, and if it makes you feel better by screaming at me, okay then. But there are reasons that Cadence backed out the deal, and are better for it, I believe.  (Aug 20, 2007 | post #84)

Plant shutdown to end 400 jobs in Athens

Indeed, this is great entertainment! Tim, you are directing your anger at the wrong person. Bubba is only speaking the truth and I suspect that you probably are/were in this very union who duped you, thus your defense of them. However it's interesting, that not only do you defend them, but in the same breath you guys shake a fist at them. Kind of like when "Rick" blasted Cadence for wanting to buy Rantoul. If I remember correctly, it went something like this, "Cadence sucks and I will never work for them". Then of course, when Cadence pulled out, Mr. Rick was essentially begging Cadence to save his Plant. Funny how people have a way of changing their minds when faced with unemployment. This is Automotive folks! Take it or leave it, but it is what it is..  (Aug 20, 2007 | post #76)

the Ticker Collins & Aikman 3 Rantoul parts plants to clo...

The tools originally ran at Mississauga, before Cadence got them, so what did C&A do to them? And yes, Eric White was walked out several weeks ago... Dana Leavitt took his place.  (Aug 3, 2007 | post #76)

stop your whining

I am so sick of hearing you people whining about your jobs! You knew this day was coming when the Feds/SEC started investigating C&A, so why is it still such a complete surprise that the Company is folding?! You should have planned for this and gotten out when you had the chance. You're in Automotive, for God's sake! You know this market is volatile, you know when it comes right down to it, your job is just a job, not a career, and you can be replaced quicker than a snap of fingers. Why are you so concerned about individual Plants?? You must be a total dumbass if you think, if you weren't one of the nine being considered for purchase, that your Plant will still be standing. You won't have the C&A name because HELLO... C&A will be but a fleeting memory. Contracts, you say? What contracts?! Those have been or will be pulled....period. Don't even utter the word, "Union". You pay your dues so your Steward can go out and buy a Mercedes, or take his family to the Bahamas, while you work your ass off and in this instance, for what? Did you really think your new owners would uphold your Union Contract? Get real! They will toss you out in a fucking heartbeat and close your Plant and it won't be considered breach because DUH! your Bankrupt. If Cadence is approved to buy the nine Plants, four, possibly five, will be shut down and that's a fact. They will be consolidated into the existing five and/or into existing Cadence Plants. Cadence never got "thrown out of court" and they do have the funds to proceed with the purchase. If you think Eric White is sitting in Court discussing Cadence's assets and arguing in their favor, I may have to take a breather from laughing so hard. Please people, Eric is in the same position he was in at C&A, no more, no less. It was in fact, C&A that asked for the extension, which the Judge granted until June 5th. W. Ross wants Hermosillo, however that is one of the nine that Cadence bid on. Cadence has said, in a nutshell, that if they cannot have Hermosillo then they do not want the other eight and they will cancel their bid, say their goodbyes and part ways. I do not know how much Ross bid for Hermosillo, but C&A wanted the extension to maul it over. I understand C&A wants to get as much as they possibly can out the deal, however I can't imagine they would throw the chance to sell eight other Facilities down the tubes in exchange for one. But who really knows those greedy bastards.. While it's admirable those that have chosen to stick it out till the very end, it's also maddening that you think by doing so, you're in a better position to negotiate. Take what severance you can get, collect unemployment and move on. I did, many moons ago.  (May 31, 2007 | post #1)

Cadence Innovation to buy Collins & Aikman plastics business

I am a Cadence Employee, transferring from C&A 5 years ago. Here are some tidbits for all you future Cadence Employees.. First, some of the Plants that Cadence is bidding on are Athens, Rantoul, Mississuaga, Guelph, 1 other Canadian Plant on the east coast (can't remember which), both Mexico Plants and two others, not Port Huron. It would be a true statment that some of those Plants will be closed, as it's not the Plants themselves that Cadence is interested in, but the contracts in those Plants, the Tooling in those Plants. It would be unkind of me to say which of those Plants will be closed, but before you damn Cadence to hell for making that decision, you might also be interested to know that Cadence is closing four of their current Facilities as well. The first one has already been done, being Grand Blanc. Some of their Programs ended, others were desourced by the OEM's, with Service moving to Hillsdale. The others are Groesbeck, Harper and Malyn. If you aren't aware, Cadence purchased an empty Visteon Plant out on 23 Mile Rd. in Chesterfield, MI in 2006. That Facility was revamped and is approx. 900,000 sq.ft.. It is the biggest Facility we have and state-of-the-art at that. Also, you may or may not know that 3/4 of the Cadence Corporate population is from C&A/Textron, which in and of itself is quite funny because towards the end when C&A had issues with paying their bills, Cadence was walking in their footsteps by hiring a Restructuring firm to help pay OUR Vendors, who I might add....are still here LOL!! To all who are coming on-board with Cadence, our benefits are horrible! Prior to 2007 we had BC/BS that paid for most everything with little paid by the Employee. Now however, we have Aetna and God help you if you have a family because your premiums are shocking and you may want to think about selling off some of your kids! Also, don't be expecting a raise in the next 20 or so years, because it ain't happening. As I've mentioned, I've been with Cadence for 5 years now and there is no such thing as merit raises. Lastly, Cadence is a privately held Company and private Companies do not like to hear the word "unions" . I will not tell you how many thousands upon thousands of dollars Cadence has spent desperately trying to get current, as well as future, Employees to turn a blind eye to unions. It is embarrassing. Oh and one more thing... Eric White is a PINHEAD!!  (May 14, 2007 | post #98)
