Magic beat Minnesota for seventh straight win

Finally, somebody who understands them. Though after LA's convincing win against Golden State, the Magic are back at No. 4. Let's see how they do against Detroit.  (Dec 29, 2008 | post #38)

For all those who hated on Hollinger's rankings, check them out today, Orlando slipped past the Lakers.  (Dec 28, 2008 | post #20)

Nelson stars as Magic rout Warriors

You guys don't get it... Hollinger didn't do anything here. It's his formula that is calculated once a day when all games of that day are finished... All Hollinger did was establish this formula years ago, then feed it into a computer and automate it. There is no human aspect to it at all any more, so Hollinger can't drop anyone. He probably only looks every couple of weeks at it himself... Its kind of funny, reading all your comments and you all are trying to sound as if you guys actually know what you're talking about, only that it's absolutely clear and very obvious (even a school kid can see that) that you don't know anything about it.  (Dec 24, 2008 | post #73)

You seem to be absolutely clueless about Hollinger's ratings. Not only are the Magic now at number 4 (they are updated daily, not once a week like most other rankings), but you also miss the whole point of how these rankings work. They are based on numbers, a statistical formula developed by him some time ago, nothing else, no human factor, really, no bias. And most of the time they give a pretty accurate picture.  (Dec 23, 2008 | post #61)

Magic beat Warriors 109-98

That would not work most of the time, because then we'd be killed from outside. Also on offence, Gortat most likely would hinder Dwight, as they both are now positioned near the basket...  (Dec 16, 2008 | post #17)

As the rookie year of Dwight showed, team success doesn't win you rookie of the year. This award is down to the individual. But yeah, this year is a closer and more interesting race than we've seen for some time.  (Dec 9, 2008 | post #4)

Buzzer-beater conceals sloppiness

Because people like you talk to him. If you all just were to ignore this guy, he'd stop doing it. but because everybody recognises him, which is precisely what he wants, he continues... In short, if you guys want Jim to stop, just ignore him, don't reply to him and don't mention him ever again. Is it that difficult?  (Nov 28, 2008 | post #23)

Orlando Magic waive James Augustine

What I'm not getting is the following: "Adonal's a big body, he knows how to play," Smith said. "We'lll see where it goes." We didn't use Foyle in the playoffs, so why would we still need and want him? In this case, I would have taken Augustine over Foyle any day. I somehow also doubt that Gibson or Millsap would've developed into the players they are today if we'd taken them over Augustine. It's not just the Magic Scouts that do a very, very poor job, it's also the player development, e.g. why didn't we send JJ a few times to the D-league? And didn't Augustine shine the few games he played there?  (Jul 29, 2008 | post #21)

That's pretty much how I feel, too. But I doubt we could've got him any cheaper.  (Jul 21, 2008 | post #38)

He's a free agent and it seems unlikely at the moment that he'll return.  (Jul 21, 2008 | post #37)

And don't hold your breath for the Trade Exception we receive in return, I doubt we'll use it.  (Jul 21, 2008 | post #36)

The salary cap and the luxury tax threshold are two different things, the amount of the latter is considerable higher than the former - just in case you didn't know. The Magic are over the salary cap and thus can only use exceptions to sign free agents (as happened with Pietrus) or use Bird rights to sign their own free agents to what ever amount they want. The Magic have the Bird rights of Dooling, so they can sign him to whatever they want regardless of the salary cap. Yet, the Magic are too close to the luxury tax threshold and they don't want to go over it (not for Dooling) as to avoid the tax. For the Nets, doing a sign&trade for him makes sense in order to have more flexibility for further signings.  (Jul 21, 2008 | post #35)

And before I forget it, Otis made a mistake by drafting him. He also made a lot of other mistakes, some obvious ones like drafting Vazquez the year before. But he isn't as bad as some other posters on here want to make him - heck we won 52 games despite those!  (Jul 9, 2008 | post #4)
