Moscow urges Japan not to provoke public hostility toward Russia

I see. That can be problemmatic. Broadly speaking a Finn can buy a house in Russia and rent a land for agriculture. But that's limited in the border territories that exactly includes thick part of Karelia.  (Yesterday | post #13)

I doubt there is any specific law against Finns/Finlad, so other foreigneres (and often russian citizens) are in the same condition here. Though i'd agree land owning laws in Russia are too complicated and restrictive. A good example of how the corruption slows the development of Russia. Otherwise i'd rise two hands for letting finns bying land in Russia. Interesting though if there are a lot of them and what's the reason for them to buy land in Russia.  (Yesterday | post #10)

Holodomor: Russia's Parallel Genocide Against Germans

It's more likely Ukraine genocided those poor germans. What is your reason to accuse Russia of it?  (Wednesday | post #2)

If a Grandma had balls it would be Grandpa. I mean i'm afraid we'd got the same old good Russia just finnish-speaking. I also wouldn't call Russia poor. Imagine a country that launched people in the space, kept parity in armed forces against US+Europe, had decent science. My grandparents lived in villages. ALL their children got higher education. Would you call that country poor? Yes i agree people could have more for personal consumption but that's the problem of wealth distribution rather. Anyway we're doing our best to 'cultivate our land'. At least the country is developing quickly and i suspect anekdotes of russian going to brothel to pick up his wife are not as popular in Finland as a decade ago.  (Tuesday Jul 22 | post #8)

Still i think you got my idea: SU had enough wars with Japan that time to decide some border issues. Khasan and Khalkhin-Gol clashes was inicited by Japan BTWThere was also not much for Finland to separate from Russian Empire in 1917 as it was destroyed with the revolution and WWI totally :) Also Finland went on the 'continuation' war in the shadow of mighty Wehrmacht. Well You can try to go out with the example of any generous country decided not to press on Russia because of Russia's desperate condition.  (Tuesday Jul 22 | post #7)

Moscow urges Japan not to provoke public hostility toward Russia

Not that simple. First SU defeated Japan in 1939 in Mongolia (that was bigger war than we had with Finland that time). Then SU defeated Japanese ground army in 1945 - there was real fight there no matter what you was told about it. So i think our army deserved these couple of islands with that uncertain history.  (Tuesday Jul 22 | post #5)

No idea actually. Tell me who's this monster living for 400 years and killing people by hundreds of millions.  (Tuesday Jul 22 | post #51)

That's easy. Even in 1956 Japan was proposed with two of these islands for: 1. Closer relations between SU/Japan. 2. No US bases on Japanese soil. Both items would require certain level of trustRight, but not only fishing. The Kuril straights are crucial for russian sea communicationsI would think the same - jap's have an image of rational people. Though surprisingly nothing was heard of their proposals yet. Only thing they tried to do is to bribe our officials what had limited effect even in crazy Yeltsin's time. All i can see is that they're crying and dancing and waving slogans like they're some african tribe. Now these school books. What's that for? Do they hope on war?  (Tuesday Jul 22 | post #3)

That's mostly the religious belief of these people. You're the perfect example - no thoughts of their own, no acceptance of facts that don't conform their predjudices. In similar way millions of christians believe Islam is just the devil's lie.  (Tuesday Jul 22 | post #49)

Merkel's Ukraine Visit Signals Crucial Shift

Angela Merkel refused to visit Holodomor memorial, visited the Unknown Soldier Memorial instead. Deutchland uber alles :) Otherwise she basically said she doesn't see Ukraine in NATO or EU in the foreseenable future.  (Tuesday Jul 22 | post #4)

Beeing a part of Russia it's fully independent for a long time yet. Why do you think they need to cut themselves from bigger part of their motherland?  (Monday Jul 21 | post #45)

What happened to the Meskhetians?

Good you mentioned it. Do you know first thing people of liberated Uzbekistan did - cut off all the Meskhetians they were able to catch. Those who managed to survive are alive only because russian army saved them. Do you know why? Do you know why liberated Georgia does all it can to not let them to return to their homes?  (Monday Jul 21 | post #2)
