I watched HBO's Generation Kill last night. A lot of military, their families, veterans and supporters are not going to like it. For those without combat background, or views hostile toward our military or the war in Iraq, there’s surely much to give them confirmation of their views. But, otherwise, there is an underlying reality: We choose and train our best and bravest to be brutal as needed to stand between us and those even more brutal. If we desire to personally face those enemies’ brutality, then disparaging our defenders is the way to do it.  (Monday Jul 14 | post #21031)

You’ve got the picture. The Media is keeping this one quiet, but when they do report it they make sure to mention the Valerie Plame outing, and the conviction of I. Lewis "Scooter " Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. They’re not about to cut Bush any slack. After all, there’s only 550 metric tons of "yellowcake " - the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment being hauled around. They always make sure to quote an Iraqi official, regarding the Yellow Cake, who states that it was all acquired by Iraq before 1991. Ex-NYT correspondent: FISA update is 'giant step toward fascism'

Quote: "Hedges didn't know for sure that he was being monitored, but he couldn't say for sure that he wasn't. The chilling effect of surveillance he had become so familiar with while reporting in foreign countries had now scuttled his work at home." He scuttled his own work. LOL... The NY Times and the ACLU, there's two organizations I'd trust with my life... I could care less if the government is monitoring telephone calls to foreign countries. In fact, I would appreciate it if someone out there was listening, “just in case”. For example, if young Abdul, a foreign student from Jordan, going to school in America calls a telephone number in Jordan and has a conversation with a former Professor at the University of Southern Florida, I would hope someone representing the U.S. Government is listening in. It might just save me from having to dive out an 80 story building to keep from being burned alive. Not that any member of a certain religion of peace would ever hi-jack a plane or commit an act of terrorism in the name of Allah. At least I'm sure the ACLU would say that I'm a fear monger and along with a few Supreme Court Judges ensure that young Abdul and his friend’s rights to privacy are not infringed upon. I still remember getting up one morning and watching some people jumping out windows in the World Trade Center and watching that second airplane fly into one of the towers. LOL.... Knowing and Doing.... Two different things. I'm a Member of the Zipper in the Chest Club. I had a minor heart attack at the age of 45, in 1995. I went to the hospital and had a Single By Pass done. If I hadn't gone to the hospital when I did, who knows what could have happened. I've been on blood pressure medication ever since, watch what I eat and plan on being around a long time. My blood pressure is usually 120/80 and I'm in great shape for my age. I was also in great shape when I had the heart attack, my Doctor assured me that had I not been in such shape it would have killed me. Most American males who have heart attacks, do so around the average age of 43, and 70% have the Drop Dead kind. Take care of yourself Jack, there are several people around who would miss you, warts and all.  (Thursday Jul 10 | post #20686)

Sorry to hear about Harry, good idea for a separate topic. He was a unique fellow.  (Jun 28, 2008 | post #19626)

In Memory of Harry

Harry was one of those rare kind of people you encounter on these forums. He was always very polite and expressed himself in some rather thoughtful and incisive ways. Even though his illiness was wearing on him, he was still just plain Harry. We never exchanged a cross word between us, he just wasn’t that kind of guy. Good Night Harry. We will miss you.  (Jun 28, 2008 | post #38)

LOL.... Reak out the popcorn, this is going to be good... I've been using Norton Internet Security for years now and have not had any real problems with it, that couldn't be resolved. I renew it ever year. I buy the newest version at Circuit City, so I have the disks handy, since I run a desktop and a couple of laptops, it includes protection for up to 3 PCs, per household. Everyone has their own opinion, but stay away from their System Works or Utilities, it creates more problems and fights with WindowsXP for ownership.  (Jun 24, 2008 | post #19432)

I don't watch much of the programming on TV. It's either a movie or a book. I usually get up start the coffee and read the news on line. I had enough of this so called election and I am just trying to ignore CNN and Fox News, until November.  (Jun 23, 2008 | post #19384)

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- George Carlin, the influential comedian whose routines used profanity, scatology and absurdity to point out the silliness and hypocrisy of human life, has died. He was 71. Carlin was often quoted, his best lines traded like baseball cards. "Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?" began one famous routine. Then there were the non-sequiturs: "The bigger they are, the worse they smell," he observed. He was probably best known for a routine that began, "I was thinking about the curse words and the swear words, the cuss words and the words that you can't say." It was a monologue, known as "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television," that got Carlin arrested and eventually led to the Supreme Court. LOL...My wife has a 17 year old calico, I have 2 other cats, about 9 years old. The blue one will start the race, with some squalling sound and dash madly from the bedroom, down the hall way, through the living room, into the kitchen. I've seen him, spin out, and slide into a cabinet wall, knock himself silly (well more actually) and just sit there with this wide eyed look on his face, like Duh!! You gotta love them. We keep a squirt gun handy, in case it becomes a pack thing.  (Jun 22, 2008 | post #19347)
