Local Man Survives Haitian Earthquake

There was a 4.0 quake near Oklahoma City today. Not so much as a word about that. It wouldn't be the fact that the local oil companies have been "fracking " the ground recently would it? It seems to be the case. For those of you who are interested in that quake, check out http://www.kfor.co m Also, learn what fracking does to the enivironment and drinking water at http://waterundera ttack.com/  (Jan 15, 2010 | post #1)

Oklahoma earthquakes

Has it occured to the Citizens of Oklahoma that these quakes, though small, are not natural but used to crack the ground and the water table to extract natural gass while contaminating local aquifers? I mean, I'm no fringe nut, but I think it would probably be pretty clear as to what is going on in a place that has no faults, no seizemic zones, and until recently, no geosiesmologic history. I would suggest, checking out http://waterundera ttack.com/ or Google Search "Fracking "  (Jan 15, 2010 | post #17)

New Year Brings New Laws For Missouri and Illinois

Did I say "decades "? I should have said "centuries ". I'm not exactly sure how the local American Indian community will feel about it, but why not. As part of the new tribe, we'll try to reconsile with them, and give back for us being a bunch of jerks the past few centuries. No corporate contributions.  (Dec 31, 2009 | post #16)

New Year Brings New Laws For Missouri and Illinois

Meanwhile, who wants to start a new Indian Tribe? You'll get to smoke if you want to as it will be part of "religious ceremonies". Heck, why not throw in getting drunk and shooting off firearms as part of the new tribe? On the positive side, it will be the first tribe to be established in North America in about a couple of decades? It will be great!  (Dec 31, 2009 | post #15)

New Year Brings New Laws For Missouri and Illinois

"Mexican-Amer ican history must be studied in every public elementary and high school. SB1557" If you actually studied American History, you would know that Illinois NEVER was under Mexican sovereignity, nor was it under Spanish sovereignity. So why are we wasting time and money on history that is not even relevant to the region? Sure Chicago may have a large hispanic population. And I am no stranger of the hispanic history here in the St. Louis area, as the St. Louis area was for a time under Spanish Rule prior to the French and Americans IN MISSOURI. But NEVER has the Midwest had any strong relationship with Mexico outside of 20th Century events. This seems more like a subject that is reserved for border states like Texas, California, Arizona, or New Mexico. I understand the demographic that this subject is trying to get involved with teaching, but they would be better off teaching more math and science in the state of Illinois rather than devoting it to a subject as irrelevant to most of the state such as Mexican-American history. Some one needs to go down to the video store and watch "Stand and Deliver" again.  (Dec 31, 2009 | post #14)

Analysis: Gap Grows Between Missouri Top Officials

The political neutrality at KTVI has caved in. Sure, Nixon is a democrat, but he is also a conservative spender, something rare in the Democratic Party. However, we can't afford any republican leadership to opt the state out of public health care, appropriate $6 Billion toward a nuclear powerplant while Kansas and Iowa become powerful wind producing states, the continued environmental pollution of the Lake of the Ozarks, accepting major factories and military divisions to LEAVE the state, and derailing rural and urban relief programs. We don't need to get rid of our democrats. WE NEED BETTER DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP!  (Nov 22, 2009 | post #3)

Health Care - Florissant, MO

If you can't get a job, you can't get health insurance. If over 1 in 10 people are unemployed in this country, and the stock market goes up, employment goes down, and the rich continue to get richer while the middle class continues to be pushed into poverty, it's time we laid down the law on the rich insurance companies who take away employers' freedom to keep good workers because they are sick or has someone in their family who is sick! It's time we take down the insurance companies who deny life saving treatments or rehabilitation. The insurance company has no right to fire workers at companies they do not manage because suddenly acne is a prexisting condition that prevents a woman from dying of breast cancer. It's time to take back control from insurance corporations who tell small businesses to fire a worker because their child has autism and the insurance copmany doesn't want to pay for mental health treatment, or a little girl goes blind because the insurance company doesn't want to pay the $20,000 surgery to saver her eyesight, or set lifetime healthcare limits for a boy born with only one arm because his family already spent the maximum $30,000 before he was a teenager and now can't get a prosthesis that fits. These are the children who will not forgive the old senator who told them no. If any of the republicans children had these problems and it required the cost of insurance to cover the treatment, they would be all for it. But "screw everybody else's children." They have what they want, "everyone else can go kiss off!" This "I got mine, screw you and get your own" attitude ends now!  (Nov 22, 2009 | post #1)

Senator Says He Hears St. Louis Opposition To Health Care...

Is it me or was there a hint of antisemitism in the crowd? (Pay attention to the signs. You might see it.) At any rate, I count no more than FORTY people at this rally. No visible minorities in the crowd (i.e. black, hispanic, or asian). The TEA party crowd is getting smaller as common sense is finally kicking in. Senator Bond, who is a lame duck senator (retiring next year), has no sympathy for the sick, disabled, or otherwise downtrotten. "Just this past week, we saw what Barack Obama said about judges," Bond said. "He said, 'I'm tired of these judges who want to follow what the Founding Fathers said and the Constitution. I want judges who have a heart, have an empathy for the teenage mom, the minority, the gay, the disabled. We want them to show empathy. We want them to show compassion.'" - CBS News, October 31, 2008 ( http://www.cbsnews .com/blogs/2008/10 /30/politics/fromt heroad/entry455820 4.shtml ) Bond has everything he needs to live to be a very old man. Unless he is cut down in a fatal accident or terminal illness, he is old enough to collect on Medicare and Social Security. Of course, if the bill fails (which it won't), it would be ammusing to see a retired Senator Bond have treatment rejected due to his PREXISTING CONDITION of amblyopia. The fact that this biased report didn't so much as feature Senator McCaskill, except to show a photo over her, is very un-KTVI-like. (counterpropaganda was right. Expect the Murdoch Right-wing Spin Machine to kick into overdrive over the next month.) The fact that republicans continue to state that the Congressional Budget Office is "Non-Partisan " and that the Public Health Care system will set us back $3.2 Trillion (not at all mentioning that that would be the cost OVER A PERIOD OF TEN YEARS! So Technically, The government does have $320 Billion to spare. It's not like they'll spend any of that on the military to end to end the war any time soon) is a poor excuse to kill the bill. The one thing that I do not like about this bill is the fact that the legislation in it doesn't go into effect until 2014. But there are alot of people who are very sick who may not make it to 2014. Which is why this legislation needs to be enforced by 2010, especially if states with republican leaders or fiscally conservative democrats (i.e. Governor Nixon) could opt-out of the program within now and 2014. Which is why the option to opt-out must be written out of the bill. It would be like Mayor Slay opting out of state funding to support the Metro bus system so that more lofts could be build in Downtown. This "screw you, I have mine. Get you own" mentality by people like Senator Bond is heartless especially when there are many people who can't find work or afford to "get their own".  (Nov 22, 2009 | post #24)

Evangelists hand out Darwin books with creationist introd...

Now I'm offended! As this book now does not tell children about the Flying Spaghetti Monsters. ( http://www.venganz a.org/ ) I don't want to send my children to school if they do not spread the word of about His Noodley Appendage or how He created the world. It is critical that we establish the corellation between the increase of global warming and the decrease in pirates. So far, the African Horn region has done their part to stave off the earth's destruction. Even seizing the same ship that was hijacked last year! (Now that is deidcation!) It is also important to teach that when you die, you don't go to pansy heaven, or 72 virgin heaven, but some place better. The Pastafanarian heaven has a beer volcano and a stripper factory. So dress in your pirate garb and pass the grog around, matie! And pray for the salvation of our children to be Touched by His Noodly Appendage! RAMEN!  (Nov 19, 2009 | post #5)

Contact 2: Little Girl's Health Insurance Claim Denied

A little girl in Missouri could get her hearing back...but the Insurance company said "No" to her $20,000 treatment. A young boy in Michigan, born with only one arm, could get a prothesis that could allow him to use two hands...but the Insurance company said "No" and stated that there was a $30,000 lifetime limit on healthcare coverage. (Many of us will never spend only $30,000 in a single year.) Health Insurance workers lose their jobs, while their bosses recieve extravagant bonuses for themselves and their peers. Happily deregulated, they can do this ever year from people with disablities to termnal ailments. It's time to change that. http://healthcaref oramericanow.org/  (Nov 19, 2009 | post #33)
