UNC student says Web site is unfair

I gave the Denver Post a copy of the letter UNC gave me, it explains that I was a danger to myself by the actions I took (meaning not eating, exercising, etc) they may or may not post it in the paper, but it tells everyting.  (Apr 26, 2007 | post #219)

Why don't you e-mail me and tell me that directly instead of going through a comment board. How dare you? An guess what? I DIDN'T contact the media...THEY contacted ME. Rocky Mountain News started the whole thing, they googled my name and found info on all this and contacted me...  (Apr 26, 2007 | post #217)

They put me on the PNG because of the MEDICAL complications from my illness...that's totaly different...you can't even compare that to the nut who was at VT.  (Apr 26, 2007 | post #211)

http://www.keysso. net/pio/crimerepor ts/year_2006/janua ry2006.htm Two charged with cocaine possession Key Largo - A sergeant on routine patrol spotted a truck parked in the middle of the road early Saturday. He wound up arrested two people inside for possession of both powdered and crack cocaine. Sgt. David Carey saw the truck parked in the middle of Calusa Street in Key Largo at 2 a.m. He stopped to check on it and discovered upon questioning the driver that the truck was not registered. Prior to towing it, an inventory search was done on the truck's contents. He found a bag in the middle of the front seat, between the driver and the passenger. Inside the bag he found both crack cocaine and powdered cocaine. The illegal substances were packaged inpidually as if for sale. More cocaine was found in the driver's purse. 22 year old Michelle Mufich and 36 year old Kenneth Crawford were both arrested. They were charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sell it. A total of 10.5 grams of powdered cocaine and 10.5 grams of crack cocaine were seized, as was the 2000 Dodge pickup truck  (Apr 26, 2007 | post #209)

NO, I'm not complaining because I got "caught" . And I think you're the ONLY one who can not see where I'm coming from. You not even worth an explination. NO, I don't know all the other stories...so I can't speak for the others but Mitch Cozad is facing attempted murder and if you google Michelle Mufich there's an article that has her in it. It says she was arrested in Flordia for a drug thing...someone told me she was selling Coke...hummm...cri minal?! Thank you but I'd rather not be assisiated with that...I have a 3.8 GPA, I'm on the Deans List...I struggle with a diease...but NO I'm not a criminal.  (Apr 26, 2007 | post #208)

"I assure you that we do not issue persona non grata orders because of someone's medical condition." Well, technically she IS right. They don't place PNG orders becuase of someones medical condition, they place PNG orders when someone BREAKS the code of conduct. YOU KNOW HOW I BROKE THE CODE OF CONDUCT?! BECAUSE I "ENGAGED IN CONDUCT THAT THREATENED OR ENDANGERED THE HEALTH, SAFTEY, OR WELFARE OF MYSELF" YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW I DID THAT? OH I DID WHAT HUNDEREDS OF OTHER GIRLS ON CAMPUS DO. I wasn't eating as much as I should of been, I exercised excessively, etc etc. Everything that goes along with an Eating Disorder. And I did so to the matter that I collapsed on campus. Well that **** doesn't it? You know what? If that didn't happen on campus I'd still be in school...crappy huh? Wrong place Wrong time. I have the letter they sent me telling me why they did what they did and you know, all it says is I need to become medically stabalized in order to return to school, and YES I DO need to get medically stable, and YES I want to, I'm working my behind off doing it! And I'm excited to get better! I want to be healthy again! So if I can come back to school when I'm "medically cleared" that means that yes, infact, this is based on my medical condition!! Right?!  (Apr 25, 2007 | post #194)

To clairify things for you: No, no multiple conversations with the UNC staff/admins...jus t one...and that was after the fact. I WAS seeing the head doctor at the UNC Health Center...WEEKLY... yes, WEEKLY. I never missed an appointment. He did, in the beginning, refer me to the UNC Counseling Center. At the time there was no support group for Eating Disorders. I did see a counselor there a few times, we both agreed that I needed someone with a bit more of a background in Eating Disorder work, to support me the best. There was no such person at UNC - so they left me to my own vices to find one (there are many things that go into finding a private therapist due to insurance and even then you only have so many visits that are covered, and let me mind you therapists are not cheap). So YES, I used all the resources they privided me with. But you want to know something funny? By being suspended and placed on "PNG" I was no longer allowed to see my doctor at the UNC Health Center, want to guess how I found out? When I got out of the hospital I needed to get my labs re-checked and a perscription re-fill for my potassium/phosphor us/magnesium and I was supposed to get them ASAP...According to my discharge insturctions from NCMC. WELL, I called the Health Center and they said, sorry we're not allowed to see you anymore...and that was that. So there I was left high and dry when I was supposed to be seeing my doc weekly and get this medication and Lab work that I needed. I called the Dean and you know what she told me? "Sorry, nothing we can do" Praise the Lord my doctor also works in a private practice, they had to double book me and make special arrangements to get me in, but luckly everything worked out alright. Some of you may or may not know that mag., potassium, and phos. are very important in the conduction of the heart rhythm, meaning with out the correct levels in the body you are at risk of an irregular heart beat, meaning, Cardiac Arrest...Sudden Death...etc. So getting thoes meds was very important. I just wanted to make things a little clear. And yes, this just is MY "side" of the story. But don't you think it's a little odd that UNC isn't speaking out? They wont even talk to ME about this. And why? Who knows? I'd sure like to know!  (Apr 25, 2007 | post #190)

Did you know that the shooter from VT WASN'T a banned student? So by posting these pictures is it REALLY doing what they're trying to accomplish (Make the campus safer)? Not really, no. I'm sure there are some pretty big quacks on campus that are under the radar, and probably laughing right now.  (Apr 25, 2007 | post #181)

Wow, you guys are great. I got some pretty good laughs at these comments, and it really doesn feel great that I have some support here! I would love to keep anyone updated who would like to follow this. I usually don't do something like this but I will post my e-mail if you'd like to know what happens if it's no longer talked about in the news...[email protected] (yeah, my UNC account...but all e-mails are forwarded to my msn account!) Thanks for the support...P.S. I think I'm going to gather all these posts and send them to the Dean of Students/Nate Haas...maybe let them see what the public thinks! Oh and a side note: Cheryl Preheim (the news reporter) told me he wasn't very willing to talk to her about the situation...blammed HIPPA for not being able to discuss things...he doesn't have confidental medical info that would need to be protected by HIPPA...at least not to my knowledge! I guess he pretty much brushed her off. Which is the way I feel when I talk to the admin at UNC. I e-mailed a number of people on Sunday morning when I found out about this and do you think I've heard back from anyone?! NOPE!! And doubt I ever will.  (Apr 24, 2007 | post #16)
