Al Capone's West Michigan ties: Fact or fun-fiction?

if many of you have read the past posts throughout this entire subjct, you know i live in Southwest Michigan and have several pictures of Al Capones homes. I just got back from taking a tour of the Whitcomb Tower (hotel) in which Capone would "visit". I didnt know what i was going to see, so i didn't take my camera. I know the maintanence guy there, he actually took me to Al's room he would stay in as well as the Tower that is now off limits to everyone. In his room he actually had a trap door to escape if needed, mind you this is on the 8th floor, so i didnt try to look down it, but the trap door was off, the walls had the original wall paper, tub, heater, it was really cool, (but old). He then took me to the basement where i could see where the tunnels used to be that went under the city of St. Joe... believe me, it was truley awesome to see these things. i'll go back soon and take my camera next time.  (Jan 3, 2008 | post #466)

as far as the sawyer house goes........ you are correct about most of the above post except... the tunnel you speak of, from the pharmacy doesn't exist, the are tunnels under the flynn theatre and i assume the pharmacy next door, but no tunnel to the house which is 2 miles away. there are tunnels from the house to the river, 2 to be exact, and you correct the tunnel going to the road is blocked off now, i have a couple pictures if you wish to email me.  (Oct 5, 2007 | post #424)

i do alot of work in south haven , and when you drive by sleepy hollow you can just tell somthing went on there yeas ago. There is a large house in the center made of white cement with really small windows. the only way onto the property is through a gate. it looks pretty cool. i am going to check with the care taker about the tunnels. if you travel down the road just a bit (North Shore Dr. off I-196), there also is a large stone house on the bluff of lake michigan, that house is rumered to be "visited " by capone, the only way to that house is over a huge brick and cement bridge, pretty cool. next time in south haven ill take some pictures, if anyone wants them ill send them... i do have other capone houses on file if you care to see them..  (Mar 20, 2007 | post #306)

if anyone is interested i have pictures of most of the houses mentioned above..... the houses that al capone either lived in or was known to hang out in, from southwestern michigan area. Also a picture of Fred "killer" Burke's house, they actually found the tommy guns the killed the people in the St. Valentine's day massacre there. the guns are on display in the Berrien County sheriffs office today.
