New tax assessments in Rocky Hill.

The fight goes on. The town assessors office informed me that the 'average' increase in value was 30%. Mine when up 42% based on a bogus assessment the last time with incorrect information about my property. (wrong number of room, bathrooms etc) anyway_ 30% for most of you.. Now let's look at some FACTS instead of corrupt town officials fantasy. Here is a FACT: The median sale price of a house today in RH is about 15% more than it was at the time of the last assessment. 15%. Not 30. http://www.zillow. com/real-estate/CT -Rocky%20Hill And the numbers are headed DOWN not up. -8.3% last year and nearly that much the year before. The REALITY is they are driving this boat into the weeds. They will kill this states economy if they don't stop. The average age in this town increases every year. Why? Because young employed people simply can't afford to live here. When the average age reaches 65 how do you think the tax revenue and economy will be? They have taken the assessment values and detached them from reality because the town needs more money. If our tax assessment are not based on reality then what are they based on? Who you know? The system and powers in local office are out of control. They don't care about reality all they care about is generating more income for the 'town'. So back to our 30%.. Do you think they will drop the mill rate by 8 or 9 points to make up for that. Noooo... They won't. So every one of you will be looking at a significant tax increase for next year. Mine is probably going to be about 1600 or so. From 4.3K up to 5.9 or so. Where the hell am I supposed to come up with that sort of money. It is insane. Time for a tea party I think.,  (Dec 4, 2008 | post #6)

New tax assessments in Rocky Hill.

I know all about how to fight city hall. I'll win as well because their numbers are insane AND the information on the house is wrong. Tax assessment records are public information and you don't even have to go into the office to pull whatever comps you need. I have a list of 10 houses in my area that are larger, newer, have more rooms and have lower assessment values. The problem seems to be an issue of who your buddies are in this town. Pretty obvious on a lot of these numbers. I doubt that I have a good enough case to accuse anyone of out right fraud but I surely have enough to get my number adjusted. If you can't tell the difference between some one spouting off in an anonymous forum and actually being in the assessors office then it would appear that I am not the one needing a reality check. I fail to see the connection between yelling fire in a movie theater and making statements about a politician. Can anyone say, "non-sequitur "? Also I don't appreciate being called a liar particularly when the person accusing me offers no evidence to the contrary.  (Nov 27, 2008 | post #4)

Sure your right. I'll demonstrate. Come here with the intention of taking my guns and I'll shoot you. How's that for violence? On the other hand come here and try to take my BMW and I'll run you over with the damn thing. We get so passionate about our possessions sometimes. We do love 'our stuff'. Ah... Fast women, fast cars, loud guns... It is REALLY good to be an American. I ashamed for Texas. I would have expected they would have expelled you by now. Check the housing prices in France. You might like it there.  (Nov 26, 2008 | post #2357)

Sensible guns are like sensible cars. Do I really "need" a car that does 140mph and 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds?! No.. BUT I WANT ONE!! When exactly did the government get into the business of determining what we "need"_ as opposed to what we "want"? Talk about fascism, ah or is that totalitarianism? I get confused. Ever sense the Marxists rebranded themselves as "progressives " the whole thing is confusing to me.  (Nov 26, 2008 | post #2354)

Rocky Hill Ranked No. 35 Among `Best Places To Live' -- C...

I love it when there are serious discussions about politics and some simpleton that wants to shift the discussion to football_ or some other sport he can't play but loves to watch. Sports people basically have no lives or existence of their own. They live vicariously though the bodies of their 'make believe' over paid heroes. Rocky hill is packed with simple old minded union blue collar guys. Too stupid to keep up with the reality of politics today they live in the past. They still think the democrats are the 'working mans' party. Clueless. They still think the teachers union is fighting for better education. Yes they are silly old people with the average age going higher and higher every year. Rocky Hill is a place with no future. Drunk police or inbred politicians aside. Young people leave because there is absolutely no reason to stay there. Not only is there no reason to stay, staying actually costs a fortune. Now there was some idiot on here that thought RH had the lowest taxes around. Gheez. Talk about clueless. The "mill" rate says little about the actual taxes people are paying. When the town assesses property at 3 times the actual value then the mill rate is sort of irrelevant. Our house goes on the market this spring. Rocky Hill is a good place to be 'from'. I hope to God we can sell it for half of what the assessors office says it is worth. I'll take less. Just make me an offer. See ya 'progressives', Rocky Hill and Hartford (Pravda) courant. Good luck with your tax deficit. I hope to never come back.  (Nov 26, 2008 | post #33)

New tax assessments in Rocky Hill.

Wow! I guess they are expecting to pass that 72 million dollar boondoggle sometime soon. I just got my new tax assessment. I donít know what planet these morons come from but they cranked up my assessment by 42% !!!! How is that even possible?! If one dweeb in the assessorís office will give me the market value of my OLD assessment they can have this house in a NY minute. They are off their rockers down there. Has anyone told them the prices of houses have DECLINED in the past 2 years? Not to mention they didnít even look inside. Drive-by assessment. I did some sale price checking over the past 2 years around here and canít even find ONE sale on a comparable house 5% over my old assessment value. This is nuts. Iím calling an agent tomorrow. I can only hope to sell and get out of here before this BS takes effect. Shit_ If I was looking to buy this house and got wind of that bogus assessment I would probably back out of the deal. I pray to God that I can sell for 80% of my old assessment value but Iíll bet it will be tough. Donít worry I wonít let the door hit me in the ass on the way out. Basically, after these morons are done I wonít have an ass.  (Nov 22, 2008 | post #1)

Rocky Hill To Ask Voters For $71.1 Million In School Cons...

Okay there yay it might be time to move but the reason to move is to get away from people who seem to think that every part of their lives should be better or easier because the town is providing for them. Sounds like a typical Yankee government dependent socialist. Just like all the other so called 'progressives' we have around here. They aren't progressive at all. They are pro-government-opp ression. Do a little better than the guy next door and they want a little more from you. A progressive government would encourage people to "do better", around here (and soon in the whole country) they punish you for it. There is nothing progressive about that. Oh people might move out but not just out of RH. They will move out of CT and not because some school buildings are a bit run down. They will move out because if they work for a living they can't afford to live here anymore. The same reason young people aren't moving in or staying when they complete their education. The only thing this state has going for it is that it is slightly cheaper to live here than NY. So if you work in NY you probably will at some point live in CT. Other than that? This is an insane place to live. High costs, high taxes, 80% (and growing) of the population completely dependent on the state in one way or another. Dependents. That is what they grow here. Either monthly checks, the state services, or employment. The incompetence of government stinks to the heavens but people just keep electing who ever promises more.  (Nov 19, 2008 | post #44)

I am also over 55 but I have the misfortune of still having to earn a living here. Glad to hear you are apparently independently wealthy. An intelligent person looks at how the money is managed. Not how much money there is. You want money squandered on the wasteful mismanaged school system? Then stop the leaf collections, stop the trash pick up, stop the branch and limb collection and lame senior programs and put that money into the schools. If education is so valuable and you are under the delusion that we are getting our moneys worth then cut some other services to pay for it. Donít just keep raising the tax on people. Iím not happy in Rocky Hill and I will be more than happy to move as soon as the house I bought is worth what I paid for it. If the values keep going down Iíll just let it go into foreclosure. Isnít that the ďAmerican wayĒ? Give me a bailout. I deserve it. What you are promoting is a downward spiral of depreciating property value and an economy that drives the young people out because they canít afford to live here. I have a number of kids and a bunch of grand kids. Ya know what? None of them live here any more. They canít afford it. It is high time people stopped thinking about how much it costs to live in ďour townĒ vs what it cost to live in this state. Just because ďthe stateĒ picks up 20 or 30 or even 40% of the tab doesnít make it ďfreeĒ. Corrupt spending, cronies, over priced services, good olí boy handshakes putting millions into buddies pockets is why the town canít get anything done at a reasonable price. Wake up man. It shouldnít cost 70 million dollars to upgrade a couple of buildings. Any more than it should cost 4 million dollars to put in a couple of docks. Ya know what there mr senior. Last year my tax burden between the state and the feds and the town was 50 thousand dollars. Thatís right 50K. How is your contribution coming? I have a modest home here. I canít afford a large home because I have to basically support an entire second family I have never met with my meager income. Enough is enough. This spending and waste has got to stop and this is a good place to start.  (Nov 5, 2008 | post #32)

"You're welcome Brian. However, it's just a temporary reprieve. The council will toss this around like a hot potato and settle on some version(s) that will eventually be presented in a special ballot. Voter turn out will be dismal and IMO, some version of this proposal will pass in 2009." Oh I have been here before. My last battle was in Tolland. Where we lost. Eventually. After 4 times bringing the same bull shit to the table. These are the tactics of the union controlled democratic party. Just keep bring it up until the people tire of the issue. On and on and on they press until no one cares any more. Stinking scum. They force their special interests on the people because their jobs, their stinking corrupt waste and buddy contracts and their pensions depend on it. I am sick and tired of being held hostage by the special interest teacher's union and their cronies. I'll be pounding on doors for the next round. It is personal now. I'm retired now so I have lots of time on my hands. Prepare for battle. I know you will never give up but I will die fighting you. You parents out there. Take responsibility and pay your own way.  (Nov 5, 2008 | post #27)

US Politics

obama elected 44th president

Now I can join with Rev. Write. and say: G.D. America. Actually you have already done it. People that don't understand the difference between capitalism and socialism, between freedom and government oppression will get exactly what they deserve. The truly sad part is the ignorance that spawned this event. I am embarrassed for my entire generation. They have forgotten how we got here. The only thing I regret more than seeing this day is the fact that I had four children and will be leaving them in this pile of horse shit. Oh well I wasn't going to retire for about 8 years but no point in staying employed now. I guess that I'll just kick back and start drawin' a check with the rest of them. The government will take care of me. After all_ I deserve it. I wonder how much he can actually screw up in four years? I'm sure it will be simply amazing. Nice going there republicans. This was the best you could do? Pretty sad. The good news is that this event may set the stage for a third party. Lord knows you would have to be an idiot to support the republicans from this point on. Only a fool would stay on that sinking ship.  (Nov 5, 2008 | post #746)
