UCLA junior Price is Pac-10's Defensive Player of the Year
Merry Christmas Rob and love the UniPete monikor! (Wednesday | post #5)
Kobe Leads Lakers to 15th NBA Title
Although I think you are way out there with your accusations, I will give you one more bit of fuel for your I-Hate-The-Laker's fire. I noticed that last year the Lakers had no less than 12 Sunday games at home. This year is looking similiar. Maybe there is something about them wearing their Sunday best (white). Maybe you can come up with some theory on that, David Stern, up their a**, all that stuff. But for everything you say about the Lakers getting special treatment to get them to the finals, I would think the Celtics would be there too. Together they are a ratings bonanza! It is the Yankees/Dodgers, or the Cowboys/Steelers of basketball! In the meantime, if the team with the best record in the NBA (a, that is the LAKERS) should start to faulter once the road trips begin, then I was entertain your rhetoric! (Wednesday | post #114)
Kobe Leads Lakers to 15th NBA Title
Love 'um or hate 'um. Lakers 16-3, best record in the NBA, winner of 9 in a row. 7-0 since Pau Gasol returned! So whether they are the Fakers, the Gaykers or any of the hate people throw out, bottom line is they are winning and looking like the odds on favorite to repeat!!! Looks like the Celtics passed on Iverson... Guess Wallace is thuggy enough for their roster! (Monday Dec 7 | post #108)
UCLA BASKETBALL: Early departures leave Bruins' cupboard bare
While I agree with everything giloftheoc is saying, and by Love staying multiple years he would probably be always mentioned in the same sentence as Alcindor and Walton, I really cannot blame any player who has the opportunity to take his game to the highest level when they feel they are the most marketable. The guarantees between salary for lottery picks and non-lottery picks is substantial, the same goes for first rounds and opposed to second rounders. It is certainly a difficult decision that should not be blamed on player nor coach. I am glad the NCAA dissolved the high school to NBA jump but I would really like to see them impliment a two year minimum for college. That way the big business of the NBA would not have any extra incentive to get these kids into the cattle round up for big profit! I see Love's comments as someone who still has his heart with the Bruins and I commend him for that. I also do not fault him as it also appears he had plenty of open and honest disccussions with Coach Howland. And Butch31, I am seeing your frustration, but I say you are way off base on Howland and what he has delivered for UCLA since being here. BTW, Morgan is no KLove even if Kevin played with one hand. Sometimes a Coach's success, in helping his players improve (look at all those success stories on defense he helped create) can be detrimental to his program because these kids have been ready-made for the next level! The college level must revert back to the mindset of tradition and at the very least, instilling into the athlete that sticking with the program as a outstanding college player will help creat a legacy for that individual, for all time... SHELBURNE: USC's late score against UCLA just what dormant riva...
John this is very true, but Carroll's arrogance equalled Neuheisel's stupidity. Instead of Carroll dropping to a knee EACH time Neuheisel called a time out and looking like a gentleman, wonderful sport, and I'm sure hero to the SC alum, he had to not only make a play but go for the arrogance (cardinal and) gold! There would have been NO way UCLA could have won anyway in my suggested scenario and the Bruins more than likely could not have scored in the 30 seconds left if Peyton Manning came in for the last series. What sounds better to the media masses (which we know Pete adores admiration from)? 1>The guy shot me in the leg with his only bullet so when I shot back I made sure to aim at his heart and empty my rounds (or) 2>The guy shot me in the leg but I still managed to leaped over and disarm and subdue him making sure he didn't shoot at anyone else, then held him down until police arrived. Carroll choose 1 over 2 and will probably every day of the week so that is why you have those resenting him just as much as those that resent Neuheisel. I have already gone on record to say Neuheisel was in the wrong to even call the time outs but Mr. Arogance "Hollywood Carroll" did nothing at the chance to separate and elevate his actions from Neuheisels. UCLA starting center Drew Gordon to transfer
Though I understand Gordon's frustration on the team's performance so far, I consider it nothing less than mutiny! (Thursday Dec 3 | post #1)
UCLA's Neuheisel defends decision to call timeout
Geez Irish Ike you're killin us! But you know you have every right and are in position to do so. Just hope you'll give the same courtesy when the Bruins beat the Trojans next year and we get ticked off about the 315 different reasons/excuses/badd calls/etc that SC fans will give. LOL (Thursday Dec 3 | post #5)
SHELBURNE: USC's Carroll, UCLA's Neuheisel shouldn't regret calls
Irish Mike, you may not want to attend those games because unfortunately this could be a year where both our hoop teams are so bad that the fans may want to rush the floor just to beat on the players and coaches from both sides... (Thursday Dec 3 | post #37)
SHELBURNE: USC's Carroll, UCLA's Neuheisel shouldn't regret calls
No explaining away here pal. I do not have the time nor want to, but if you made me I could come up with at least a 3 to 1 ratio meaning 3 trouble with authority SC thugs per one Bruin! And BTW, the double murderer alone should count as at least 20 to 1. (Thursday Dec 3 | post #36)
SHELBURNE: USC's Carroll, UCLA's Neuheisel shouldn't regret calls
All good points and well said! (Thursday Dec 3 | post #35)
Excellent point MBD! Let's not forget that Carroll could have come out looking like a Saint if every time Neuheisel would have taken a time out, his team would have just taken a knee. There was no way SC was gonna lose the game and he would have been very gentlemanly WITHOUT (what SC fans will come back with)looking uncompetitive. Instead he has to show arrogance straight from the top and counter with something to one-up what Neuheisel did! You know, I really expect to see Carroll ridin' the white horse in full Men of Troy garb for some sort of college commercial for next season. Maybe Will Ferrell can mount up and ride "bare"ba ck behind him! Wouldn't that just be the cutest!!! (Thursday Dec 3 | post #19)
Come on D.V.56 Ghost, quit tryin' to get our goat. While I agree with you that our Bruins don't deserve a bowl game is the simple reason that the PAC-10 was/is considered the best conference in the country this year with the most eligible amount of teams in one conference! But remember, we bruins like you guys at LSU. We have the common interest of our dislike of the Trojans! (Thursday Dec 3 | post #18)
Rob bleeds blue and gold and so do I simple as that! And you certainly don't need to be an Alum to root for a college team for sure. Heck we here in L.A. are more entitled to than anywhere in the country (us having no NFL team(s) is a whole other topix). The guy at my work is one of those SC-I-sat-in-the-al um-section-one-gam e-so-now-I-can-put -an-alumni-license -plate-frame-on-my -car kind of fan! All too typical of the wanna-be jock, arm chair quarterback types. Maybe you can come up with a YCLA guy you know that fits that description, but those I come into contact seem to always be the Orange County, too much sun, arrogant, sales rep kind of guys that are SC fans. BTW, and this is even before they KNOW my UCLA affiliation! Then it is double, no make that triple indemnity... (Thursday Dec 3 | post #17)
SHELBURNE: USC's Carroll, UCLA's Neuheisel shouldn't regret calls
Agreed! And as far as Dorrell doing a better job, I was not a big fan of his recruiting. We can say what we want about Neuheisel as a coach, but he already has arguably the best running back on the West Coast coming to the Bruins next year and his recruitment so far has been something even Ben Howland would be envious of (hence the current crop of hoops players we have in Westwood). Thanks for the "step in" Waterboy. I was really just too bored with this nimrod's narrow-minded BS to respond!!! (Wednesday Dec 2 | post #99)
