Bert Blyleven selected to Baseball Hall of Fame

Winfield only played 2 seasons here, I assume since that is the case and the Oliva, Puckett, Killebrew, and Carew played a majority of their careers for the Twins / Senators.  (Jan 5, 2011 | post #46)

I am sincerely happy for Bert, I just wish that Ron Santo would've gotten in too.  (Jan 5, 2011 | post #44)

As a conservative / libertarian, I try to judge people based on the content of their character not based on their religious / political views. Whether she is flaming liberal, a flaming conservative, or whatever is and should be immaterial to this discussion. Regardless of her political / religious views, I pray for her recovery from her self-inflicted wounds. I also pray that God enables her to come to peace over the death of her son. I retract the previous statements I made about, why not let her take herself out. Respect everyone's political and religious beliefs and do not use that to judge a person like Ms. Arkley, judge her on her actions.  (Dec 7, 2010 | post #55)

If you call being sent to the State Mental Hospital in St. Peter for many years a slap on the wrist, then yes she will get her wrist slapped. I'm pretty sure she will be found criminally insane.  (Dec 7, 2010 | post #54)

Oregon's Mike Bellotti offers advance on Minnesota Gopher...

DDAustin: I thought Joe Schmitt at Channel 5 talked to Fulmer and he said he was interested? Fulmer would be a Tubby Smith like hire, he does have the track record of winning a National Title. Shannon would bring a hard nose defensive mindset that would enable us to then build on offense with a short field. Leach would bring exciting offense. Go Gophers: Of the mentioned candidates, I prefer Leach. I think Shannon would bring an identity to a program that hasn't had one since maybe Lou Holtz. Fulmer and Leach would do the same as Shannon but with more panache.  (Dec 3, 2010 | post #20)

Mr. Maturi, If it is true that Mike Leach and Phil Fullmer are interested, then quit sitting on your brains and bring them in for an interview at least. Fullmer has hoisted the National Championship trophy and that was with Tee Martin as his QB, something that none of the other candidates have ever done. Leach won with the "low hanging fruit" of Texas and ran an offense that would play to Marqueis Gray's talents. He never had a losing record in 10 seasons at Texas Tech. Minnesota has more National Titles than some very (currently) prestigious schools like Louisiana State, Nebraska, and Texas. We are entering into arguably the toughest division in college football, if we want to be competitive in this division, then we need to hire someone like Phil Fullmer, Randy Shannon or Mike Leach.  (Dec 3, 2010 | post #12)

Very good point on the husband, he is ignored in this mess. Frankly, I feel for him, because as you stated his wife is nucking futs, his son is dead, and probably won't get jack shiite for the house. So where will he live and how will the house be rebuilt? I suspect she will be spending a long time at the State Mental Hospital in St. Peter. This will sound crass, but why not let her take herself out?  (Dec 3, 2010 | post #33)

Despite her being a liberal nut case (perhaps literally nuts), I do feel for her in the loss of her son but that does not excuse her actions in burning her house down and trying to kill herself. Didn't I read somewhere that the circumstances of her son's death were under investigation? I feel sick in saying this but if she was so determined to take herself out, why not let her?  (Dec 3, 2010 | post #28)

Potential coaching candidates for Minnesota Vikings

See Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, Bobby Petrino, Pete Carroll, Al Groh, Lou Holtz, etc for your answer.  (Nov 28, 2010 | post #79)

Fire set at mosque where terror suspect worshipped

For once I think I kinda agree with IrishMN. I am sure that the right will undoubtedly get blamed for this. As a libertarian, I do fully believe in the Freedom of Religion for all, but we also cannot ignore the elephant in the room that Islam has radicals that want to do us harm. I do not condone the actions of either side in this case.  (Nov 28, 2010 | post #12)

The scary thing about Gruden is Brett might come back again to play for him... Who was the last quarterback Gruden developed as a head coach? In Tampa he had Brad Johnson, in Oakland he had Rich Gannon. Also what makes you so sure he would leave the low stress life as an announcer for the high stress life as an NFL coach? If we go external for our next head coach I want it to be someone with a track record of developing good quarterbacks or good defensive players..  (Nov 23, 2010 | post #57)

Wofford defeats USC Upstate 79-61

Frankly, I don't want Sarah Palin to be the Republican nominee in 2012. She would continue the war on drugs, continue the micromanaging of the bedroom issues, basically she is just another Warfare Welfare State Republican. I would much prefer someone like Gary Johnson (former NM governor), Ron Paul, Mitch Daniels, or Chris Christie get the nomination to run against Barack Obama. If Obama listens to the likes of Michael Moore, Bill Maher, and the hard left and continues to go far left then even Mickey Mouse could beat Obama in 2012, but if he at least gives the impression of working with the new majority in the house then it will be more difficult to beat him.  (Nov 18, 2010 | post #8)
