school districts

Because certain people refuse to even consider investigating the idea of consolidation. Somehow debt owed by one school district should not be a 'burden' to another district. As public schools, the debt is always ours, no matter who's label is on it. I don't get how one school is spending tax money to build more school buildings while another has buildings sitting empty. Just think of the tax money that could be saved. Oh, wait, that would mean 'change' and 'progress', two words that are very scary to small towns.  (Aug 27, 2010 | post #2)

Check out their loyal debit card, or pay with cash. It will save you $0.05 per gallon every time.  (May 19, 2010 | post #35)

New Joe's Place

My kids and I eat there all the time. Saw a sign last night about $1 hot dog specials on Mondays and Tuesdays in May. Hard to find a better deal for your kids, unless it's federally subsidized...  (May 10, 2010 | post #33)

Can you imagine to boon to the local economy if there was a station in Marengo, and when passengers stepped off, they found a vibrant yet quaint historic downtown district?  (Apr 25, 2010 | post #3)

D-165 likely to seek lower referendum

Wow, you just can't see the forest for the trees. The High School has ALREADY taken on the burden of that debt in that it is operating in a community that is strapped for cash, and cannot and will not support tax increases. You feel the Middle School is poorly admistered, and imply that the High School is better administered. Wouldn't consolidation therefore be better in that the better administration would remain? If we consolidate, we automatically REDUCE costs by eliminating duplicate staff positions and operating costs. That reduction of cost can be put toward debt reduction. Why should a husband help pay his wife's credit card bill? (Bear with me, just an example) Is it fair that he take on a portion of that debt if he wasn't the one shopping? Of COURSE he should help pay! It's one family. It's all coming out of the same place anyway! We're one community. It's all coming out of the same pocket. Administrators who have proven to be better fiscal managers should of COURSE be given more responsibility to the betterment of the entire town.  (May 19, 2008 | post #8)

MP: Whether it's the HS or the Grade School, aren't these debts really the COMMUNITY'S debt? In the end, it ALL comes from our (the taxpayer's) pockets. The fact that the HS manages its budget well and avoids debt is an argument FOR consolidation. Let's use those strengths for the benefit of all the schools, not just the HS. And no matter what your argument, you cannot deniy that consolidation reduces the duplicate overhead of several administrative costs. Unfortunately, though, once a taxing body is established, it's nearly impossible to get rid of.  (May 19, 2008 | post #6)

Carpooling

Now that gas is $4.00/gal and Marengo isn't getting any closer to the rest of the world, are there people interested in investigating car pools?  (May 15, 2008 | post #1)
