Lord Savant, An excellent question my lord. The search for an answer to that question is responsible for the deaths of many millions of people. It is the nature vs. nurture debate. Can we mold men into what we want them to be, or are men already cut from a mold. The truth is of course that both play an important part, but true believers from either camp can bring an incredible amount of misery into this world. One thing is for certain as I said in an earlier post. If you peel away the thin veneer of civilization, then we are truly beasts. That has been shown to be true numerous times throughout history. Whether we can change our nature is a fascinating topic. In the future we will no doubt be able to breed many of these traits out of our gene pool. Do we want to do that though??? Lord Pere du Champ, You ask if the madness will ever stop. That is in my opinion a resounding no. The reason is quite simple. Once men get a taste of killing they enjoy it immensely. There are institutions, customs, traditions, laws etc. that attempt to curb the bloodlust of men. The second that control breaks down we revert to savagery and barbarity. We are without a doubt the ultimate apex predator on this planet, and we have been for thousands of years. Anyone who doubts this is deluding themselves. How else do you explain the Appian Way being lined with thousands after the Spartacus led slave revolt failed??? How about the einsatzgruppen??? The skulls piled high into mini-mountains by Tamerlane??? How about the rape of Nanking. The usually highly civilized and cultured Japanese went absolutely berserk in an orgy of blood. Many of them have been interviewed and admit that the smell of blood was exhilarating. The same is true in probably the most gruesome war in history, which was WWI. How could the men have possibly endured that living hell unless there was some sort of sick pleasure involved??? The moral of my story is this sire. Please point out where I stated that property taxes comprise the majority of taxes sire. You need to follow along with the conversation if you wish to engage me in debate my lord. I do not grapple with Negroes suffering from attention deficit disorder, and who have had an IEP their entire lives. Ad valorem are not import taxes. Look it up before you pop off at the mouth about things you know nothing about. The bottom line once again is that poor people pay little to no taxes. They are parasites on the body politic. People like you look at government as some sort of endless pool of money to be taken. It is just disgusting that we feed the laziness of people like you. He definitely contributes to the dialogue, and is correct most of the time. He does get hateful at times though as I said previously. I value his perspective on various topics because it oftentimes differs from my own. That is what it is all about. Processing differnt points of view and making sense (or nonsense) of the world. I agree with most of what you and Lord Savant have said sire. It should be kept in mind though that economic reality plays a part in all of this. Let us be realistic here. A degree in psychology or history is simply not as marketable as a degree in nursing or chemical engineering. It is extremely important for people to be knowledgeable about a wide variety of topics, but it is also extremely important that people be able to find a job when they finish college. It is also quite humbling no doubt for a bachelor of arts major to find him/herself in a mountain of debt and not be able to land a position. I have often thought that a reasonable balance between the two is to require that a college student who pursues a major in science should seek a minor in an art and vice versa.
