Rick Santorum and the Specter of Specter.

Political Defeat: In the November 7, 2006 election, Rick Santorum lost by over 700,000 votes, receiving 41.3 percent of the vote to Casey's 58.7 percent, the largest margin of defeat ever for an incumbent Republican Senator in Pennsylvania. The 18-point defeat was the largest margin of defeat for any incumbent senator since 1980 and the largest margin of any incumbent Republican senator ever. The specter of Specter: Santorum's support among social conservatives in his failed 2006 re-election was eroded by his endorsement for his Senate colleague Arlen Specter over conservative Congressman Pat Toomey in 2004 (On April 28, 2009, Specter announced that, after 44 years as an elected Republican, he was switching membership to the Democratic Party). Many socially and fiscally conservative Republicans considered his endorsement to be a betrayal of their cause. Note: Arlen Specter was one of the biggest opponents of deporation for illegal aliens. Educational Dumbing Down: In 2001, Rick Santorum sought to amend the No Child Left Behind bill to include a provision affecting the teaching of evolution. According to Santorum, his goal was that students studying evolution should hear "competing scientific interpretations of evidence," including "such alternative theories as intelligent design." The provision came to be known as the "Santorum Amendment" and was written with the assistance of the Discovery Institute. The Senate's approval of the amendment "was hailed by anti-evolution groups as a major victory and criticized by scientific organizations. Lobbying: Santorum, after losing his Senate seat, earned $1.3 million in 2010 and the first half of 2011. The largest chunk of his employment earnings — $332,000 — came from his work as a consultant for groups advocating and lobbying for industry interests….These groups were “think tanks” mostly for private industry and international corporations. (The think tanks and their “consultants” are go-betweens to negotiate “contributions” to congressmen in return for favorable legislation.) Integrity: Santorum claimed to be a resident of Pennsylvania, but was determined by his children’s charter school to be a Virginia resident. They assessed him $67,000 for out-of-state tuition on his children. Santorum disclaimed the tuition, but later the State of Pennsylvania paid the school $55,000 to settle the dispute. Levelland, Drugs and Official Oppression

A whole calendar year and a few months have passed since Levelland’s drug scandal burst onto the national scene and became a topic on the national press services. We read the local papers and note that there now seems to be as many drug busts as ever in Levelland. Levelland has long been a haven for the abusers of drugs and alcohol. There seem to be far more arrests for such crimes as DUI than one would expect in such a small town. Before the scandal involving former Hockley County Sheriff David Kinney and some of his deputies, we used to see a lot of charges dismissed in Levelland courts because the defendants “moved out of town.” District Attorney Gary Goff testified in court that Sheriff Kinney had sent deputies to pressure him to dismiss charges against some of the people involved in drug trafficking. This brings back memories of old days, back in the forties and fifties when Sheriffs often gave small town troublemakers the option of enlisting in the military or going to jail for a long period of time. That option and ploy is no longer available to small county sheriffs, for the standards of enlistment in the military have gone up and every potential enlistee is thoroughly investigated. Also, the mental requirements have increased somewhat, and there is generally a higher intellect in today’s enlistees than sixty years ago. However, Kinney was not trying to get rid of any troublemakers; he was trying to protect them (and maybe himself) by pressuring the DA to dismiss charges against some of his apparent confederates in crime. We can tell just how far crime has come to be institutionalized in small towns when we see many “constituents” step forward to support a corrupt and/or incompetent sheriff (the two defects usually go hand in hand ) when he becomes embroiled in scandal and there is strong evidence of malfeasance. Only civil charges were brought against Kinney, even though the evidence pointed toward criminal activities, as a co-conspirator, along with his two deputies, Bohannon and Quintanilla. Bohannon testified in court that he was a scapegoat for Kinney. (http://lubbockonl 2610/loc_596347890 .shtml). Unfortunately, once charges are brought against a defendant, he loses credibility as a witness. It’s the way our system works. A recent scandal in the small town of Tenaha, Texas was another example of where the wrong people went to jail as a result of corruption and incompetence--from the DA down to the town marshal. Corrupt law enforcement is like an autoimmune disease; it feeds upon itself and upon the innocent. Those who have the power of arrest can use it oppressively to intimidate and discredit would-be whistleblowers. As an inveterate whistleblower myself, I can attest to the fact that the only safeguard our society provides against official oppression is trial by jury. Any law enforcement officer can file charges against anyone; but fortunately, it takes a jury of one’s peers to convict him. However, the ignorant among us do not do research and do not have the power of discernment; they still look with a jaundiced eye upon those who have been “arrested,” even though the charges were eventually deemed trumped-up and later either dismissed by a prosecutor or by a jury.  (Dec 21, 2011 | post #1)

9/11 Anniversary - El Paso, TX

Palin and Limbaugh

In spite of what Sarah Palin actually said about the story of Paul Revere, she and Rush Limbaugh are still trying to change what she said; when it clearly shows that she is intellectually inferior. She said that Paul Revere RODE INTO TOWN, not out of town (meaning Boston) to warn (in order to warn) the BRITISH that the colonists were armed and, essentially, that they should not mess with them. The British were already invading the colonies and Revere rode OUT of Boston in order to warn the colonists in the surrounding towns. Palin did not say anything about multiple rides of Paul Revere or that he purposely went to get himself captured on his first ride in order to warn the British to not attack the colonists. The sad fact is that she said these things to impressionable young grade school students. She far, Palin far exceeds Dan Quayle’s faux pas of misspelling of "potato" in front of a similar class of young students. Nowhere in any story of Paul Revere does it say that colonists rang church bells as signals. They used lanterns in the old North Church bell tower to signal whether the British were coming by land or sea. Ringing church bells as signals at midnight? Now THAT would not stir up any suspicion to the British-sympatheti c spies among them, would it? Such an absurd idea shows that Palin and Limbaugh thinks that everyone else is an idiot--like them. Palin and Limbaugh are both less than honest and want to delude the American people about the intelligence level of Palin. Limbaugh takes the dubious credit for getting Palin on the GOP ticket in 2008. Back then, Palin could not cite a single newspaper to Katie Couric in an interview in 2008 that she had ever read. This, and the fabricated version of Paul Revere are both evidence that she is dyslexic and probably does not read anything. Moreover, she cannot accurately recount what she has heard, indicating a short term memory, since the Paul Revere story had been recounted to her a short time earlier at a tourist stop on her tour. http://www.kidglue .com/2011/06/07/sa rah-palin-and-supp orters-determined- to-prove-her-right -about-paul-revere /  (Jun 7, 2011 | post #1)

Clean It Up Levelland

Bohannon knows, and everyone knows, that both he and Sheriff Kinney were fully aware of Bobby Froman and his vast methamphetamine distribution ring. The testimony that Kinney wanted him to make narcotics arrests in order to "outshine " other departments, is on its face a bald faced lie. How could the sheriff's office be more "shining " than to take down Bobby Froman the kingpin of meth in West Texas and other places? Kinney and Bohannon both would have to be more naive than a kindergarten child to not understand that. The jury may swallow Bohannon's testimony, which appears to be contrived theatrics designed to actually help Kinney under the guise of painting him as being overzealous, but no intelligent person could see logic (which is nonexistent) in Bohannon's testimony. If Levelland doesn't get rid of Kinney, you'll be in for more of the same incompetence and very questionable activities (or lack thereof when it comes to real drug law enforcement) of both he and his deputies. Law enforcement in Levelland has gone from corrupt to pathetic and scandalous in the past few decades. The whole city and all the "good old boys and gals" who put Kinney in office need to grow up and wise up. Levelland has long been a haven for oilfield trash, biker gangs, cockfighting, prostitution, drug dealers and other drifters and criminals, such as James Hicks. If the town had to depend on tourism, or if were seeking to become a retirement town, none of this BS would be tolerated. The day of the good old boy's demise is near at hand. Levelland's best citizens have become blind to what is obvious to outside observers who spend even a brief time there.  (Mar 27, 2010 | post #1)

Expert: Juarez violence a 'terrorist war'

Terrorists usually have some political objective, such as the overthrow of someone in power. The bands of gunmen in Juarez have not ever declared any such objective or any intention of establishing a new government. In fact their only objective in Juarez seems to be to destroy the competition for the illegal drug trade through the Juarez/Juarez Valley smuggling corridor. The "expert" therefore seems confused as to the true definition of "terrorism. "  (Nov 24, 2009 | post #13)

Driver, that was a dog you hit

Some people cannot see a freight train coming. Hundreds of drivers get hit by them every year. Hello? Any dog running loose in the streets is subject to getting hit. Their path is erratic and unpredictable. I know of no driver ever held responsible for running over a dog or cat. That's the way it should be. We will continue to see many pets lying dead on the streets because or irresponsible owners, and for no other reason.  (Nov 24, 2009 | post #60)

Obama and His Chicago Legacy

According to the news, in Chicago 20 people were killed violently in a 12-hour period recently. With such community "peacemakers " as Jeremiah Wright doing the shepharding, no one should be surprised. At the most recent debate with Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama complained because he was asked questions about his loyalty to America. He should also be asked how he could possibly help quell violence and crime in the U.S. if he can't do it in Chicago. Anyone who thinks that Jeremiah Wright's brand of hatred has not influenced Obama is simply naive. Anyone constantly exposed to racism and hatred of country and those of unlike race will, through social osmosis, learn to hate like their "spiritual " leaders. Obama's mask has been removed, and as we enter the general election, his true persona will become more obvious. Those "committed " to support him need to sober up and take a closer look. They've been duped by the media and hype of the times.  (Apr 19, 2008 | post #1)

ICE Raid Nabs 34 Suspected Illegal Immigrants

Tonight on the History Channel we saw the "compassionat e" version of the illegal alien problem. The History Channel is part of the media that is brainwashing us to accept another huge amensty. They showed the plight of illegal aliens and the sacrifices they make to get here. They did not show the Americans who are pushed onto welfare because they cannot afford to work for illegal alien wages. The show ended with Bush and all major presidential candidates talking about securing the border and then "creating a way for aliens to immigrate legally." We have had a legal way to immigrate for over a century. However, most of our immigrants prefer to do it their own way: illegally. The History Channel told us more about the "anchor babies" who acquire U.S. citizenship by being born here of illegal alien parents. We often hear the lie that we cannot deport the parents without separating them from their "citizen " babies and breaking up the family. "Anchor baibies" are dual nationals until age 18 for a good reason: The Border Patrol can send them back with their parents and the anchor baibes will enjoy the full rights of citizenship of their parents until age 18--the age of "election. " At age 18 dual nationals must decide which country's nationality they want. The Anchor Baby myth is pettyfogging by the exploiters of illegal aliens: employers and political activists who want to increase their ranks with illegal aliens. In case anyone doubts this, call your nearest foreign consul. They'll tell you about dual nationality and tell you that anchor babies need not be separated from their parents.  (Mar 26, 2008 | post #1)

Arnold Schwartzenegger Begins to Come to Grips with Reality

Schwartzenegger was elected on a platform of eliminating the budget deficit created by his predecessor, Gray Davis, whom he defeated in a recall vote. According to the Lou Dobbs show on 3/18/08, California, in spite of cutting benefits and raising car and other taxes the Governor is facing a $14 billion shortfall in his budget. Here is Schwartzenegger’s sudden epiphany: On CNN today it was reported that Schwartzenegger finally admitted that illegal aliens in his State are not paying enough taxes to offset what they take out of the economy in services. Most Americans have always known that. As a matter of fact, Schwartsenegger's words are one of the biggest understaments of his career. I, along with other advocates of border control, have often cited that fact to the whole world, and Congress, before the Internet, the past thirty or more years. Hell will freeze over before Schwartzenegger proposes to reverse his former stand and allow—,nay, demand—that State and local law enforcement agencies help round up illegal aliens and demand that ICE sends them home. Another big step, which Schwartzenegger will never take due to lack of political cajones, could be to require employers of illegal aliens, to be heavily fined, and even jailed on a second conviction. Here are some excerpts with Links to describe Schwartzenegger’s plight and some ”strategies” he plans in order to overcome the deficit--like releasing more criminals onto the streets. http://en.wikipedi vis#Budget_crisis “SACRAMENTO - Confronting the worst fiscal crisis of his political career, Gov. Arnold Schwartzenegger on Wednesday proposed slashing payments to schools by billions of dollars, releasing tens of thousands of "low-risk " inmates from prison early and closing dozens of state parks as part of a plan to fill a gaping $14.5 billion hole in the state budget. .. “The Republican governor's call for 10 percent cuts virtually across the board is expected to trigger a protracted battle with some of the Capitol's most powerful interest groups. Lawmakers in the Democrat-controlle d Legislature vowed to oppose the plan, and said the severity of the shortfall demands that taxes be considered as part of the fix..." http://www.mercury 941503 Maybe it’s time for another recall—this time of Schwarzenegger. His popularity is beginning to wane; notwistanding, popularity is not going to solve California’s budget problem. If there is a border control advocate out there, California might do well to listen to him. However, the State Government leaders are more likely to go down with another "Titanic”—thi s one named the State of California. Duncan Hunter, if he is interested, could solve the problem. However, calling on him to face Schwartzenegger in a recall election would be practical—not one of California’s traditional attributes.  (Mar 19, 2008 | post #1)

2008 Presidential Election

Is Barack Obama a Doppelganger?

Cincinnati radio talk show host, Bill Cunningham, said he was going to “strip the bark” off Barack Obama and expose to the world who he really is. Wimp, John McCain, winced at Cunningham’s promise to illuminate the crowd about Obama, and immediately disavowed Cunningham. That retreat into the his shell of mediocrity might cost McCain the election, if his stand on illegal immigration and association with Juan Hernandez already hasn't. How can Barack Obama disassociate himself from the Hate America messages of Jeremiah Wright after sitting in his “Amen Corner” for twenty years? The answer is he can’t, and recent statements by Obama indicate he does not want to. He still thinks of Wright as his “mentor.” Have any of the Barack Obama/Oprah Winfrey dupes ever thought to look up the meaning of the word “mentor?” Synonyms found in Webster’s New World Dictionary are “advisor,” “teacher” and “coach.” Barack Obama would have us believe that he sat in Jeremiah Wright’s pews for twenty years totally oblivious to Wright’s white-hatred and America-hatred messages. If he is that oblivious to what is going on around him, how can we trust him to make good decisions as President of the U.S.? I was one of the first critics to point out that Obama’s speeches are trivial clichés, completely devoid of substance or thought-provoking insight. His use of the mother tongue is as weak as that of GWB 43. I have also said for years that his endorser, Oprah Winfrey, targets the uneducated, the unthinking, couch-potato crowd. Many are single mothers whose offspring will be the police problems of tomorrow, if they are not already. Winfrey promotes "non-fiction " books without reading or researching them to see if they are factual and based on truths. The target audiences of both Obama and Winfrey do not want their thought processes to be provoked or challenged. Obama would have a better chance of convincing thinking Americans of Jeremiah Wright's influence, if he claimed that he were a doppelganger personality; that is, a dual personality—a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type.  (Mar 19, 2008 | post #1)

Jeremiah Wright

He was Barack Obama's pastor, his mentor, his spiritual advisor and Dutch uncle. Anyone who believes that Obama never heard any racism, white hatred, America hatred or separatist vituperative in the United Trinity Church of Christ is either a Democrat, a liberal, an anarchist or a small child who still believes in the tooth fairy. By the time I listen to one sermon from any preacher, I can tell you his religious philosophy, his political beliefs, his prejudices and character flaws. If Barack Obama cannot do that after listening to Jeremiah Wright for twenty years, he is not the man we want for President.  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #1)
