Occupy Wall St - Levittown, NY

I oppose it for several reasons: 1. While there are some greedy people on wall street, they pale in comparison to the robber barons of old. Besides, most of the people that they protest don't even work on wall street anymore. 2. The taxation argument is a moot point merely because the capital gains tax increase would affect ALL of us, not just the wealthy. It is financially shooting yourself in the foot. 3. Our economy is not as diversified as we like to believe. The financial sector accounts for 40% of all economic activity in america. You may dislike the banks that exist, but we cannot survive without the existence of banks. I happen to support the Dodd-Frank bill, but not bank bashing. That doesn't solve anything. Create new banks or find a new one to put your money into.  (Dec 22, 2011 | post #1)

Immigrants & K-12 - Levittown, NY

What better way to "get them to pay taxes and learn english goddamn it!" than to provide the means for them to pass a citizenship test? This is a no brainer and the argument that it would be a drain on taxpayer money is short sighted. In the long term, this will help provide an educated and able workforce amongst a rapidly growing population. Like them or not, the hispanics won't be "mowing lawns" forever. In the early 20th century, the Irish were looked down upon. Now we have senators like John Mccain  (Dec 22, 2011 | post #1)

War on Christmas - Levittown, NY

It is manufactured paranoia. Everywhere that you look in december, christmas is the dominant holiday. I'm not even Jewish, but if I was, I'd be very disappointed with the lack of Hanukkah stuff in the hallmark aisle. It is a logical fallacy to assume that acknowledge one holiday somehow diminishes another, especially when that holiday is celebrated by most of the country since it mirrors the christian beliefs of that country.  (Dec 22, 2011 | post #1)

Weird

Evolution vs. Creation

What I find interesting about this perennial conflict is that while it is essentially science vs religion, it is ironically similar to the holy war mentality. "What I believe is right, what you believe is wrong and stupid! And you're destroying America!" If everyone's beliefs are destroying the country, then no one's are.  (Dec 22, 2011 | post #12908)

Does anyone know who this man is?

http://youtu.be/lA Pgq9FZbks I recorded him a while ago on the bus and am curious as to who he is. If anyone in the long island area has had similar racial issues with this man, let me know.  (Dec 19, 2011 | post #1)
