Shelter turns no dog away

God bless this woman and her love of dogs! I rescued my pup from A Ft.Wayne, IN rescue & could not imagine what my baby might have gone thru without people like this. Being a Rottie she most likely would not have made it very far. A huge thanks for all that she does, the rainbow bridge has many fur babies waiting to welcome her :)  (Aug 2, 2011 | post #1)

Anyone else having a problem keeping their pool clean?

It's not cottonwood. We had those for a few weeks, but this is just a particulate not anything that's a seed/pollen. I'm stumped :(  (Aug 2, 2011 | post #5)

Anyone else having a problem keeping their pool clean?

For the past couple of months there has been a white particulate floating around in the air that is not only keeping my pool dirty, but coating everything else outside. This is the first year I've seen it & it's making a mess. Anyone have any clues what it might be? I don't think it's pollen since it's been going for so long & it doesn't get better after a rain either.  (Jul 31, 2011 | post #1)

All Day kindergarten

The survey on the vvsd website asked if the parent would be willing to pay the $150/month expense, so to me it sounds like they are not trying to push it off on the taxpayers, but the parents. Daycare with state cert. Kindergarten will most definitely cost more than $150/month.  (Jun 2, 2011 | post #4)

All Day kindergarten

With a son entering Kindergarten this fall, I am all for all it. For working parents, half day kindergarten is a logistical nightmare & what better way to prepare the student for 1st grade than to solidify a schedule starting in K. Seeing as Kindergarten is NOT mandatory in Illinois, for those who choose to send their child, why not get them accustomed from the very start. Personally, I would be willing to pay the extra money to ensure my child is receiving a quality education. For those who do not have children in the school system, I can understand your hesitation. If I were able to afford it financially I would put my child in private schooling to ensure they are getting the best possible education, however since I cannot, I will do all I can to support the public school systems of Bolingbrook.  (May 26, 2011 | post #2)

Purple ribbons on Rte.53

I'm not sure if I just didn't notice them before but there are purple ribbons on the median trees from Royce Rd heading south. What are they for?  (Apr 16, 2011 | post #1)

The Friday Food Critic: What Do You Think of Gordon-Biersch?

I completely agree with the previous poster. I recently dined at Gordon Biersch for the 1st time and was kind if disappointed. Being a HUGE fan of Rock Bottom Brewery, I had to try my local brewery. The appetizer portions were smaller than anticipated & although sounding appetizing, my main entree was bland & overpriced for what it was. On a previous outing to Longhorn (coincidentally with the same diners) we left fully satisfied & full. Their prices were more in line with a traditional steak house but their portions were gigantic compared to GB. I believe we paid approx. the same for both places, but in my opinion it was money better spent at Longhorn.  (Apr 10, 2011 | post #2)

Portion of Boughton Road to be rebuilt

Praise the Lord! The whole right lane eastbound is shot from Weber to Whitewater. Why are they only doing that section? It's not even bad after Whitewater, why go to Schmidt? I wonder how many complaints/lawsuits the city received from drivers who blew out tires on that stretch?!  (Feb 24, 2011 | post #1)

Who's in charge

Here's the thing, I too live on a cul-de-sac and did not see a plow until Thursday nite. HOWEVER, knowing that we just got 15+ inches of snow WE (the community of neighbors whom live in said cul-dr-sac) banded together, snow blowers & shovels and made it happen. Although we did shovel & snow blow our drives & parts of the streets Wednesday only to wake Thurs morning and find two cars abandoned making exit impossible, as soon as those cars got out we went back at it. My point is you can either sit back and wait for someone else to solve the problem or take a proactive approach. Now, I'm not saying an "elderly " person should be out there schluping snow, but let's have a little common sense. We live in cul-de-sacs to avoid traffic, it's only natural that we would be a less traveled & therefore lower priority road.  (Feb 4, 2011 | post #25)
