Delicate decision: To circumcise or not?
Chop off a baby's fingers and the child will learn how to live without them, never think about life with them and it will still be as wrong as circumcision. How can normal, rational people think cutting health parts of the human body off is better than living as nature (that would be God to the religious folks) intended? (Friday May 9 | post #111)
Bay Shore couple's move to hybrids pays off
I heard about a car that ran on warm wishes and civility. Regretably, the fuel supply ran out years ago. (Thursday May 8 | post #99)
Bay Shore couple's move to hybrids pays off
Why would his co-workers call it a Flintstones car? Sure Fred's car was a zero emissions vehicle, but is that any reason to screw up a simple pop culture reference? Where are their standards??? (Thursday May 8 | post #79)
Derek Jeter has dated 6 on Maxim's hot 100 list
I've dated all 10 women. Of course, I get nasty paper cuts on my junk, but its totally worth it! (Wednesday May 7 | post #51)
Delicate decision: To circumcise or not?
Circumcision is wrong. There is no way cutting off skin brings you closer to God or makes you cleaner. We are animals. We have evolved a certain way for a reason. There is no reason why this barbarous practice needs to be continued in the 21st century when people have access to clean running water and can bathe. Sex is great, but I can only imagine how much better it would feel if I had the natural protection I was born with still intact. (Wednesday May 7 | post #79)
Honestly, is there anything men can do that doesn't offend someone? Why do we have to pander to every person who complains? We live in a country where "majority rules" is being replaced with "3 people whining and a company backing down afraid to lose money." We are spineless nation of gossipy whiners. Judge calls Indian `tribe' bogus, orders it to pay damages
The Native Americans have always been treated as less than human by white european settlers. It makes you wonder who the real "savages " were: the people who didn't believe in Jesus or the people who sent them blankets laced with Small Pox. The casinos are a way the Native Americans can finally support themselves after losing all their lands, their mobility and their dignity. (Wednesday May 7 | post #10)
MADD attacks 'Grand Theft Auto IV'
So MADD is upset that a game allows players to "drink" and then "drive" and adjusts the controls so the player can't control the car properly? Doesn't that reinforce their message about the dangers of driving drunk? And how many people playing the game at home are stoned anyway? Why can't we Americans have entertainment for adults that isn't porn but isn't watered down so it's safe for kids? (Wednesday May 7 | post #235)
Ex-Smithtown building director arrested in probe
Let's see, the Supervisor has been in office for 30+ years and runs the town like a kingdom. His choices always seem to win election to the Town Board and he appointed all the dept. heads. I think we'll see Uncle Pat in shackles before too long. He should be for the poor job he's done in preserving Smithtown's natural beauty and allowing building just about anywhere you can squeeze a house on. Of course, some old dude will complain about how this will raise his property taxes. (Wednesday May 7 | post #6)
ABC criticized for handling of Democratic debate
An the conservative view is so much better, especially when they want to limit the rights guaranteed in the Constitution and turn our fair republic into an autocratic state with rights for the rich and none for the rest. Stupid liberals with their minimum wage, social security and 40 hour work weeks. We need more JD Rockerfellers and less middle class. When will they learn their place?!? (Wednesday May 7 | post #307)
Was that when nickels had pictures of bubble bees on them and you'd say "give me 5 bees for a quarter?" (Wednesday May 7 | post #94)
Can anyone afford to NOT buy gas? How many of us have bosses who would be okay with the whole office staying home to "stick it to the man?" I'd get in trouble and in this economy, I can't afford to lose my job because there are so few that don't involve leaf blowers or cash registers and minimum wage. (Tuesday May 6 | post #92)
Define "hard-working " because some people dig ditches and some people sit at a desk and both will say they work hard. Most of my driving is to and from work and on the weekends, to shop. I'd love to take a vaction, but I can't afford it living on Long Island, where $77,000 is considered low income. We Americans are waaaay too short sighted to see beyond our own problems and work towards a common goal. Unless it effects our wallet, we could care less. I blame the Baby Boomers for their culture of absolute consumerism and "me first" attitudes. Remember when they stood up and protested a war they thought was unjust mostly because they didn't want to fight and possibly die? Those same draft dodging weasels are sending their children to fight in a war we shouldn't have started so they could control the world's oil supply. It had nothing to do with terrorism, WMD or democracy. Now they control some of the world's richest oil fields and surprise! the price keeps going up. Pardon my "leftwing " ramblings, but as a working class-slob, the only thing that's free is my opinion. (Monday May 5 | post #68)
Now at independent food shops: Higher prices
The death of the Mom & Pop stores...sad (Monday May 5 | post #4)
I'm just old enough to remember the second oil crisis in the late 70s. It amazies me that we as a nation didn't learn a darn thing. Once Kuwait broke ranks with OPEC and gas prices started to drop in the 80s, we stopped being concerned with mileage and forgot all the reports of dwindling supplies of oil. Now 20 years later, we are paying the price, at the pump, on the world stage and envirnomentally. We deserve this mess. Our society could have done something 30 years ago and been leaders in new transportation technology. The Arab world learned and although oil is still their biggest product, they own real estate and other businesses across the globe so when their oil does run out, they will still stay rich. Why we Americans think we are the greatest people in the world is beyond me. 30 years and still the same problem, without any clue how to solve the problem and too many people denying the problem exists.
